Fallout's 10th anniversary: Bethesda 'design a perk' contest

Wow Silencer that sounds really good! Particularly as you said taking into account that it's hard to make a perk when you don't know how the stats around the game mechanics work. That does sound very stylish and also effective as a perk. I hope you submit it.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

I'm just running with what I know...

Name: Boy/Girl of War
Desc: You're a finely tuned killing machine, as a matter of fact it's become something of an art for you. Besides getting a bonus to your combat skills, if an enemy attempts to attack while you are unaware you automatically enter V.A.T.S to intercept them.

Faster water drinking.

No matter what you drink: water, water or toilet water, you gain a +1 bonus to your Healing Rate. Thus you heal faster.

Bonus FatMan attacks.

You have learned the secret arts of the nuclear power, or you just clickfest with the bomb. In any case, your FatMan attacks cost 1 AP less to perform.

Corpseeater.

Yum! Tastes like chicken. You have gained an immunity to radiated ghoul corpses, resulting in a +25% to your Radiation Resistance.

Mysterious Todd.

With this Perk, you have gained the attention of a Mysterious Todd, who will appear to help you from time to time. If your Todd is lost in combat, do not expect him or her to be replaced.

Dodger.

Forget using "a" and "d" buttons, with this perk Vault-Tec does it for you! Automatically!

maybe i should just enter this:

Perk name: Mole eyes
Description: Years of living in the Vault has significantly affected your eyesight, but on the other hand your hearing has improved. You are unused to the natural light and should wear sunglasses during daytime.
Effect: BLOOM ON EVERY OBJECT (during daytime), but you're also more likely to succeed perception checks on enemies not in the line of sight.

That's actually quite good.

Why only positive perks:)

claustrophobia!

All those years in the vault made you psychological unstable in small spaces.

Effect: All stats -1 in dungeons

or the reverse:

Agoraphobia

Years of living in the Vault have made you very uncomfortable when dealing with large open spaces. While outside, you're jumpy and irritable, but when inside a building or underground, you're right at home...

Effect: -1 to EN and CH when outside, +1 to EN and CH when inside or underground. As well as an additional +1 to PE for the purpose of spot checks during underground combat.
Random Effect: When walking around outside with a loaded weapon drawn, you'll sometimes accidently discharge your weapon.

i dont really see Expert Excrement Expeditor (or whatever it was) as a positive thing :P

Hehe, me neither  But there are others aswell... Childkiller or Gravedigger, for instances... Like EEE or the drunk thing perk, you can't "choose" them but you can earn them.

Someone with a (working) Bethesda's forum account please ask them if we can send them bad perks?

The same what? That they aren't perks but karmic titles?

By definition perks are supposed to be beneficial. You wouldn't be so dumb as to pick a negative one when leveling up, right?
As for EEE, I didn't know about it till now, I don't know if it appears as a perk or as a karmic title in the character screen, but it doesn't seem to do anything good or bad.
I don't remember right now any other perk except Gecko Skinning that you don't pick yourself, but it's handed to you. I certainly don't remember any negative ones, though.

The traits are the ones that have both negative and positive sides, but in Fallout 3 they're out, so there.

well imo you can have mixed perks, perks that have some beneficial and negative effects. That could add some roleplay value

Wrong? What about that perk you got in Vault 15's bar if you had low luck?

Vault 15 never had a bar, Vault City had - "Parlor Room".

This one is from Broken Hills, ctually, and it nets Speech bonus, IIRC.

These are Perks, although they can only be set by scripts, not taken on level up.

That was the deal with Traits, they were a on and off deal.

I understand you mean something along that line, or Arcanums Backgrounds, but then again, I think the upsides would have to be slightly overpowered for those to count.
