Favorite books / What are you reading?

A fire upon the deep by Vernor Vinge.

Asked for it and its 'sequel' A deepness in the sky after Hassknecht recommended them to me.

So far pretty entertaining.

Artemis Fowlby Eoin Colfer. Very good series about a young 12 year old boy who is a millionare,a genius ,and a criminal mastermind. When you join him,Artemis kidnaps, what for it, a fairy. To barter for there fairy gold.

I hate books about kids. Kids simply can not be badass, you know. There are very few exceptions to this rule. I can name one so far...

Oh, he is not badass. If fact, his butler does the ass kicking.(And butler's sister.) Artemis is, for the most part, the brains. PS:Harry Potter is not badass, just lucky.

Harry potter would be good if it were not about Harry Potter

They have this interesting modern day world where magic is real but all it really focused on is the schools there

Read the last Book?

If you don't like the first part of something, you tend to not stay till the end.

I hate that "It get's better later" argument. if someone came up to me and said "Sabirah, you gotta try this new game called Hit yourself in the face with a frying pan!" I'd say "why would you do that o shaikh? that would hurt a lot" and he went "No it get's better after 20 swings when you start hallucinating visions of Leonardo DiCaprio wrestling Shah Rukh Khan" I would think he was some kind of stark raving lunatic (or possessed by Shaitan)

I would not mind this, but I think more people are wondering what happened to there kids.(Remember,Harry had a bakers dozen with ginny. And Ron and Hemione had...two,or three I think.Been a while since I read them.) But..... can we please change Hugo Weasley's name,at least? It's sound like the poor kid is a cyclops.

Even then it would be boring.

Harry potter should have been about an old Wizard or witch doing something, not some little kid

You are aware that is a kids/Young teens book, right?
It's like saying that Adventure Time should be about the political struggle of the Land of Oooooo.

Also yo uare jduging a series of kids books by the first entry, that makes lots of sense.... you know tha the characters age right?

A good children's series is for people of all ages (My sister is a huge potter fan and she is 26 for reference) and I read the first 3 before I called it quits.

So... your complain is......? You wanted LOTR while reading somethign meant for for young people that has some elements that appeal to adults?

I do not understand this post. Please edit Walpknut. @Sabriah:Maybe Harry Potter is not your thing. Just because you don't like it does not mean it's a horrible childrens book. Maybe the movies are more your style. (The blond girl, who plays Hermione, seems to be a great actress. Her name is Emma Watson.)

All right, let's get this little baby thread back on topic! The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. This is awsome: It's almost a love letter to reading. This time it's a girl,Margaret Lea who has been picked by a legendary writer Vida Winter, to write her biography before she passes away. What take place is a story filled with lies, twins, a secret. It is a must read as the ending will leave you wanting more. Best book I have ever read.

My goodness:
Blood Meridian is a catalog of brutality, depicting, in sometimes explicit detail, all manner of violence, bloodshed, brutality and cruelty.
I never understand why people read these kind of books. There are horror movie on all the time.

Because you can't really compare a book and a film in that way?
