Replaying New Vegas always makes me appreciate the sheer variety of weapons, armor and clothing options that are in the game, especially with the DLCs installed. What is your favorite weapon/apparel combination?

For me it has to be the Vault 34 Security Armor and Helmet along with a fully modded Laser Rifle, and the MF Hyperbreeder Alpha as a sidearm. With the full outfit, you look like a member of Daft Punk, and with a combination of light-armor and energy-weapon perks this becomes a fast, deadly build that can disintegrate enemies from long range before they even know you are there.

Joshua Graham's armour and just a standard .45 pistol is like a match made in heaven to me.
Really like his armour and I've always had an affinity for 1911's.

Yeah, JG's armor is another favorite of mine. I like to pair it with the Medicine Stick; the Native designs on the armor's shirt sleeves and the medicine wheel on the rifle go well together and create a distinctive look for Cowboy type couriers.

My favorite kit lately has been Ulysses' Duster, Daniel's Hat, Lucky Sunglasses, and a War Club or a Super-Heated Saturnite Fist. (I always thought that Daniel's Hat was cool on paper but looked a little too ill-fitting/oversized when worn. It turns out that it suits female couriers/companions quite well.)

What always bugged me about the FONV gear was the carryover gimmick of stats boosts from FO3. I made a joke about it in my "How the player looks to NPCs" thread, with the Courier undressing to put on the Naughty Nightwear right in front of the NPC he/she is about to sway with their words, and how utterly silly that scenario is, but really it frustrates me FAR more than it ever makes me chuckle. I don't like the idea that clothes have some kind of major contribution to your attributes. I felt that it made sense for Power Armor in the original titles, and I felt that the affects to statistics were at their utmost best in FOT where heavier armors would demolish your Sneak Skill. But putting on some summer clothes gives you EN and AG? Why? This miraculous feat of engineering that combines the maneuverability of combat armor with the defense of a tank ONLY helps you carry 10 more pounds, and the relative tradeoff in speed is equal? WHAT? Give me back my Power Armor that's amazing, but absurdly hard to maintain and super duper rare; THAT'S a worthy tradeoff. Give me back my regular armor that JUST gives me defense, not miraculously changes my ability to sway others.

I wouldn't mind the existence of all the variety of different looking outfits, so long as most of them were purely aesthetic. I could see wearing lingerie would have SOME kind of impact (+1 CH? I'm not sure. But it would impact viewers SOMEHOW!) and I could see a pristine and snazzy business suit might make your words more convincing, but I don't want each and every article of clothing to give some kind of stat, and it's just silly of they give you stats like EN, AG, LK, ST, and IN. NOTHING about wearing clothes does that. CH and PE, totally, but not the other 5.

If I could have the stats benefits of all gear completely changed around... say, being naked kills your charisma, but wearing clothes doesn't "increase" it, unless they're really, really sweet looking threads that are equally rare, and reverting to the FOT-era of stats vs penalties for armor... If I could have those back, I'd once more be over the moon in love with the Remnants Power Armor. Looks great, and has the best stats. Plus I'd still make the same diverse collections of "one of everything" as I already do now, but it would only be for the aesthetics (which is why I already collect them) not the stats they grant. =)

Yes, sadly Power armor in New Vegas is just not that impressive. Certainly, its modest bonuses are not worth the long time it takes to acquire. Aesthetically, I've always found power armor in New Vegas to be kind of ugly, too; the T-51 in particular makes the wearer look like a steel version of the Stay Puff Marshmallow man.

I almost always go with light armor in New Vegas, regardless of my courier's build.

Agreed; some modest CH bonuses from clothing just makes sense, but EN, AG, ST, and IN, not so much. Unless we're talking power armor, in which case I think a ST and EN bonus might be in order. I do think having some items (like the Lucky Shades, for instance) giving a mild Luck bonus also make sense, too; some people do attribute various items as being "lucky" and since Luck is such an amorphous stat anyway, I don't think it's stretching things to have some items boost the player's luck.

I suspect part of the reason they included items with stat bonuses is because in more fantasy oriented roleplaying games, players often find enchanted items with stat increasing bonuses, and so the mechanic of items with stat bonuses was just carried over without any attempt made to justify it. Typical Beth, I guess...

That said, I didn't find the clothing stat bonuses all that annoying. For the most part the effects are fairly minor and unlikely to sway things in the player's favor all that much.

Well I'm not against LK bonuses, for the very reasons you described. But not on a STANDARD type of clothing you can find all over the place. At least there was only 1 pair of Lucky Shades. But if any attributes were to be granted by clothing, I simply think that CH for certain types of clothing fits, and PE for certain kind of headgear also fits. I don't think it fits at all for a lab coat to increase my IN; I may LOOK smarter, but it doesn't actually MAKE me smarter. And the average stat bonuses bothered me not because I felt like +1 ST +1 AG was a bit much, but because the game was telling me that this outfit of slacks and shirt and vest SOMEHOW increases my character's strength in the exact same degree as donning a full suit of T-51b Power Armor, and that's just stupid.

But yeah, I forgot to mention that because we DO NOT get those sensible levels of stat bonuses that I usually choose not to wear Remnant Power Armor. I still like the look of it... for the most part, anyway ...but in most of my games, I work with some Leather Armor until I can get some Leather Armor Mk II and these keep me until I get the Advanced Riot Gear in The Divide. Combined with the First Recon Beret, some Aviators, and the Rebreather, I just love the look of this outfit the most, and its stats are pretty awesome overall. Looks great, great DT and DR, and they don't slow me to a crawl unlike Metal or Power Armor.

This Machine + AP rounds, and I adore the black Combat Armor, I pick it up fairly early, from my first encounter with the sacked caravans, and stick to it for a long time. Very dashing!
the rifle and ammo comes much later usually, I will spend a long time even gathering up enough of the AP rounds to feel like I have a safe stash :D

I couldn't care less how "old" it is; if it's good, I'm all gung ho for it! =D After all, FO2's over 15 years old, but I still loves me some killap RP! ^^

Like others said, Joshua Graham's armor, A Light Sinning in Darkness, the riot shotgun, Survivalist Rifle, Love and Hate, The stupdi gauntlets from Old World Blues, the Super heated Saturnite fist and the Ballistic fist. I am a sucker for light armor, and unarmed weapons.
Also, any Explosives tied weapon, those are extremely fun to use iwth the right perks and skill.

My favourite equipment is the Desert ranger armour found in Zion canyon, with the desert ranger helmet being my battle-gear and a roving trader hat being my regular headwear, usually I also wear a pair of authority glasses.

My weapons are a nice 10 mm pistol for short-range use (or some similar nice pistol) and a hunting rifle for long range, preferrably scoped. But I have often used paciencia or some other rifle like for example the medicine stick, (the unique trail gun) as a more strong close-combat and anti-deathclaw gun I usually uses a modified hunting shotgun or riot shotgun, of course with the "and stay back" perk. Early and midgame I also uses a grenade rifle. Oh and the survivalist rifle.
For close combat I usually use a unique type of combat knife, but I also have a thing for axes.

The all-american is a nice all-round weapon to use as well.

Favorite weapon and clothing are the Elite Riot Gear with Desperado Hat, and a fully modified European Battle Rifle, a modified .45 Silenced Automatic as a concealed handgun of choice, the avatar also carries, again fully modified, a 50 Caliber Sniper Rifle (Anti-Materiel Rifle) for such situations as it warrants.

Reasons for the particular clothing choices are not primarily for the "stats" (the imparted bonuses are superfluous since the avatar already has a Gun Skill of 100+), but for practicality and aesthetics. Practicality is that it is a medium weight armor (and quiet) with a decent damage threshold (only stat that matters for armor IMHO) and, well, he looks good wearing it (role play element). Power Armor is only used in those situations that require it and the Power Armor of choice is usually the "Remnants" armor. For missions or quests that require fast stealthy movement, Power Armor is not used.

Referring back to the discussion between Kilgore Trout and SnapSlav, while there is a "realism factor" one can strive for, I do enjoy the ability to, ... well, ... I call it:

    Pimp Your Avatar
    ScreenShot364 - -50.jpg ScreenShot374 - -50.jpg

I use the Signature Armor and Signature Weapons by CyberSpyder for meshing with the statistics inherent with New Vegas, ... meh?, ...some call it an "empowerment fantasy" and others call it "Ego stroking", I just want the ability to make the armor the avatar wears, and the weapon he or she carries, unique to that character. Weapons can be customized (weapon mods) but I haven't found any "armor mod kits" (do they exist?).

Signature Armor fills that gap and Signature Weapon enables the character to go from plain "Marksman" to "Elite Sniper". It illustrates a "practice makes perfect" ability with a specific weapon of choice and it is done more from a role playing element than a realism viewpoint.

Another favorite item that is a "mod", ... the "Parkerized Pip-Boy by DonKnotts" with colored maps again, for aesthetics.

For strict realism, I would say that 99.9% of all Power Armors, Energy Weapons and their advanced power supplies should be the rarest of the rare and most of what you would find would be rusting relics damaged beyond repair, let alone use, 75% of all firearms, associated ammunition, and grenades should be rare items used only for the most extreme situations, because the industrial infrastructure required to support those technologies is now 200+ year old radioactive dust, ie; support for them no longer exists and all warranties are void, while bladed melee weapons would be a more common combat tool.
(damn, that was a long sentence)

But that is generally not the case in the New Vegas Mojave. Given the choices available, I tried to balance realism and fantasy within the framework of F:NV and chose a basic repairable armor and firearm based "load out" for my character/avatar.

Should I start a "Pimp Your Avatar" topic? Then someone would be able to tell me where I can get a pair of these beautiful boots?
