Fine, I'll post it: ZeniMax buys id Software

I doubt this deal will have any impact on Carmacks games. Wolfenstein will be published by Activision and Rage by EA. First games to be published by ZeniMax will be Quake Live and Doom 4.

They're both being placed under a single umbrella right now

Which will be managed by Muzyka, effectively giving BioWare control over Mythic. Well, I guess that it doesn't affect BioWare itself that much, at least less than Mythic.

Muzyka = BioWare?

Seems like someone needs a bit of an Economics 101 course and what exactly is a merger and what isn't. Eh? Eh?

K, I got some wrong info from sites repeating after other sites, and I'm not that interested in BioWare to track down the source.

Yes but Rage won't be edited by Bethesda. The game is still under Electronic Arts's responsibility.

Todd Howard is the executive producer and game director of Zenimax. The mere idea that he will interfere with Id's business makes me wanna puke.

Todd Howard's about to make you his bitch.

Oh wait, he already did.

Well the only silver lining I see is that when guys that shit golden CDs like Romero back in day, who get too cocky can go from infallible to irrelevant in the blink of an eye. It gives me hope that one day Bethesda too will be laid low. At least Romero was racing Ferrari's and banging Penthouse models when he was on top.

compliments of Rosh - prophetic much?

It's a fearlessly Independent game studio being bought by a company that wants to be the next EA/Activision. Chances are things are going to be pretty bad at iD.

Meh, last id game i played was Q3 back in the day (it's been 9 freakin' years already?!?).

But still feels wrong.

man this sucks... The doom 3 engine didn't take off like id had hoped and rage is taking forever, although when its all said and done now Zenimax will have a cross platform engine to develop on that actually looks current.....

John Romero is not pleased

Fallout 3 bought DOOM. Wow. about 2 hours ago

Previous Updates* ZENIMAX??????? Disgusting. about 2 hours ago

I wonder if this will effect Obsidian's engine use for Fallout 3: New Vegas, I'm guessing not.

If they're going to be using an engine like id Tech V, then they really need to fire their entire animation department now. If they can't animate low poly characters good, I hate to think what they do when faced with millions of polygons on a single character.

New Vegas? Not a chance. Maybe Fallout 4.

That might be a good thing tho, as it is Fallout 3 feels like a broken fps when played real time (due to dice rolls on to-hit) and a half assed "paused based game" with VATS (which is rectified somewhat using the Fallout Wanderers Edition Mod).

I think they should just got full bore player skill based aiming (like any normal fps) and use the stats for other things (like item equip checks, other non combat checks, reload times, etc, just not AIMING), etc, and leave the actual combat a true fps (since thats all that sells nowadays... :? )

well at least itll look pretty, and have real lighting this time....

well I gues this will show if Bethesda as development team has the real quality of professional game developers or not the things they have shown so far have been pretty mediocre when it comes to animations and many parts of the visuals but such things can definetly not be ignored anymore by anyone (aprox) in 2 years since already now such things like good animations are a standart with popular games.

Indeed, as someone on another forum stated:

"It would suck to be "Lead Engine Programmer" at Bethesda right now."

Dude, Bethesda don't have a development team, they just make it up as they go along.
You know because that's awsum.

I'm more concern about the mod capability of id's next game. JC has been generous to release his game's source code to the community. Example: Team Fortress started as a mod for Quake.

Yes the mod community has been too quite lately but with id software bought by a tyrant company, chances of seeing a great mod for another fps game might be fading away.
Also, the game engine licensing that produced some of the great fps game in history such as Half life and Call of Duty might be lost too.

Damn news almost gave me heart attack when I woke up and found out what happened. :ugly:
