You don’t fly airplanes, you don’t seek out new threats underwater. Nor do you order 12 little pixellated men into the dark recesses of a crashed alien spaceship. No.

X-COM was a game about investigating an alien invasion of Earth at your own speed, by your own means. So is XCOM. You can start believing.

Fallout 3 journalism all over again, with different catchphrases. Only now does the damage this game did to the world start to show.

Fallout...check. X-COM...check. What will follow, I wonder.

“We’re really good at making shooters” says Pelling. “We’ve got a lot of experience doing that, and I think that provides a unique opportunity to present XCOM in a much more immersive and intimate format. Putting it into the first-person shooter is going to blow it up a little bit.”
Reminds me of something else. But inverted.

Hmm, what other turn-based game do we know of that got turned into an FPS with 50's themes? Hmmmm...

Oh God damnit.

Oh god. Why?

I'm not much of an X-Com fan, having barely ever played the games myself, but, recognizing them as classics of the golden age of gaming that were the nineties, even i feel thoroughly abused just by looking at those screens.

At least this one looks like it might have shadows...

Looks like poop.
Really, I can't say anything else, the screenshots don't say much and neither does the article, so I'm just going to say the screenshots look like poop because they do.

Also I don't care what they were trying to do with that weird frying floating orb thing, it looks like poop.

Excrement.

Better question is, what old turn-based game can be transformed into a first person shooter next up.

Dungeons and Dragons as a first-person shooter. Throw the dice for every shot to see if you hit something.

Its infectious!

I didn't reply 1st time I saw this thread... I just sighed and went about my business, I did however think to myself "oh goody another franchise ruined..." although in fairness, the X-com series really hasn't had my interest since X-COM: Apocalypse, I played it a bit, but it didn't have the same 'guts' as X-com.. heck I played Interceptor more than I played Apocalypse!

and let'e be fair X-com has already been down the "lets make a FPS!!!" route with Enforcer... BUT at least enforcer had something to do with X-com!

This game which appears to be about as relevant as a house brick is relevant to Lime Jelly... an excerpt from Wiki about X-com / UFO: defence.

Code:
The story of X-COM begins in 1998. The initial plot centers around increased reports of UFO sightings. Tales of abduction and terrorism by the unknown aliens become widespread. The nations of the world come to perceive this as a threat and attempt to form their own forces to deal with this, such as Japan's Kiryu-Kai force; these forces fail miserably, the Kiryu-Kai not intercepting a single UFO in its five months of operation. On December 11, 1998, representatives from some of the most powerful nations in the world meet in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss the issue. From this meeting was born the Extraterrestrial Combat Unit (X-COM), over which the player assumes control at the start of the game.

Reading that its a mystery how this game, set in the 50's relates to X-com is anybodies guess...

~Way to go developers, following the already written history of a game IN NO WAY! :wall:

And yes.. I too await Tetris FPS, and pinball FPS... and perhaps a Tekken or Street-Fighter FPS... FUCK IT, lets make everything FPS, then games coders wont have to work so hard BOO fekking HOO.
