Future Fallout locations and story

Well, nothing really surprises me after the legion you know

But the Legion wasn't made up for the sake of silliness. Caesar chose this template of history for a reason to model his organization after.
Don't forget that most people in the wasteland have absolutely no idea any more about their own history, they know there was a war that created the current world and that before that things were better (well they think that of course). They don't know about classical empires or repeating patterns in history.

Their gear may be a bit absurd but for the rest they are deadly serious.

I could list you a ton of stupid stuff from fallout 2..... the whole gangster stuff in new reno... the boxing... a freaking porn studio....

Those are not usually the things I see people complain about from Fallout 2. Care to elaborate?

I'm not complaining about it, I'm saying fallout 2 is not very serious, New reno is the best example, you can become a pornstar come on....... the talking plant in broken hills..... a lot of jokes

I don't see how we can't have pirates after that, but that's just my opinion

I think it's more about how cheesy it is rather than what it is. We all get it. It's Florida, they have a coast, the Caribbeans had pirates ha, ha, ha. Woo. It's not like we went to Italy and suddenly there's Caesar's Legion. Instead that type of faction originated in the west/midwest of America and there's a reason they are modeled after Rome. Call it goofy or cheesy all you want but it's better than a pirate faction that looks like Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean in Florida.

I never understood the Porn Studio complaint. People have been making porn since the stone age.
The old saying "Sex sells" is quite accurate in the human behavior. Of course that in a city of vices, a porn studio makes sense. People will buy porn no matter what (just look at China, where porn is forbidden and has a life sentence for making, distributing or selling it, and people still do it because it's big bucks).

Also you can only become a porn star if you want to and have the stats and "experience" for it.
First you need to get an audition, which means you have to have at least one of these:
  • Have 9 (or more) Charisma
  • Be a Made Man
  • Be a Prizefighter
Then you need to have the body for it. You need at least one of these:
  • Have 8 (or more) Agility
  • Have 8 (or more) Endurance
Then you need to have the necessary experience. You need at least one of these:
  • Be a Sexpert
  • Be a Gigolo
  • Have the Kama Sutra Master perk
Good roleplaying there, and it's not silly at all. They even explain how they managed to open their Porn Studio in a lore friendly way.
Not to mention the whole cowboy theme in New Vegas....
Fallout was always a Sci-fi western though.

I just think it doesn't really fit the genre....

Fallout was always a western (???) didn't see repeaters and cowboy hats in the first 2 games

That is why it's a sci-fi western (I call it that because it's a Space Western but on Earth, so I don't feel confortable calling it a Space Western, and calling it that would just confuse some people).

Instead of repeaters you have Gauss Rifles and instead of Cowboy Hats you have Power Armor Helmets. You also have tribals, sheriffs, saloons, cattle and cattle barons, the whole western feeling of guns blazing justice, outlaws wandering the wild west looking for targets, the settlements and the wasteland give the same feeling as the American Wild West settlers and their difficulties to survive and thrive in a mostly hostile land where civilization and safety are scarce things.

Space Westerns do not (usually) have cowboy hats or repeaters. The original Star Trek series is a Space Western. So is Firefly for example. Star Wars Solo was advertised as one, but I haven't watched it so I have no idea if it really is.

Here is a definition of Space Western:
The idea is that the vast distances of space have formed barriers and difficulties similar to those faced by American settlers as they crossed and developed the continent, forcing the people to become independent or even insular, with help from whatever central authority (if any) that laid claim to the land long in coming, and immediate protection once again becoming a personal matter.

I thought fallout was post apocalyptic with a retro-sci fi theme, don't see western.... maybe a bit in Fo2 with Redding.... but they mixed so much stuff in 2

It was always a sci-fi western. Sci-Fi western doesn't mean it's not a retro futuristic post apocalyptic though. The retro futuristic post apocalyptic actually works perfectly in case of Space/Sci-Fi Westerns. Because it makes a perfect world for the whole Western genre. Which is what I quoted up there, the definition.

I finally found a definition for Sci-Fi Western:
A science fiction Western is a work of fiction which has elements of science fiction in a Western setting. It is different from a Space Western, which is a frontier story indicative of American Westerns, except transposed to a backdrop of space exploration and settlement.

A science fiction Western occurs in the past, or in a world resembling the past, in which modern or future technology exists. The anachronistic technology of these stories is present because scientific paradigms occurred earlier in history but are implemented via industrial elements present at that time, or because technology is brought from another time or place.
So as you can see, it fits Fallout 1 perfectly. It occurs in a world resembling the past (people making new/recent settlements, shortage of resources, trading caravans including water trader caravans, sheriffs, cattle, tribals, outlaw/raider bands, most settlements are very low tech, etc), in which modern or future technology exists.
