I kinda just like noise. All the philosophizing behind it (or rather, next to it), as (in)valid as it may be, it's just something you enjoy or not. I need to be in a particular mood for it, but when I am, it's just fine.

On one hand it's all pretty simple, on the other, it's as complex as you want it to be.

^true. I thought you were referring to Vomir specifically.

If the philosophy does interest you (Akratus), check out http://monoskop.org/Noise

I've read a few of them but Russolo's manifesto and Paul Hegarty's word salads are the easiest entries. tl;dr noise isn't just a formal element like static but is also a cultural thing - unwanted and transgressive sounds, but also political noise i.e. the rebellion of jazz, the earliest punk, the aggressive music made in the name of fighting fascism, Rough Music etc. Monoskop is excellent for book sources, anyhow.

I used to make a bit of ultra-minimal drone and noise but I mainly channel it into photography and moving image nowadays...

Superior classical composition coming through

bow before this slightly blue romantic work

I love old Schonie, and spend a good amount of time on his harmony book. He is an interesting character. I like how Glenn Gould does his atonal piano pieces, they are pretty amazing for the right ear.

Disagreed. Now I do like Debussy a lot, but Beethoven is never overplayed.
Now I can't decide if I should post Gorguts or Stravinsky as an answer...
Let's go with Gorguts.

1:40 is yes.

Also, music is like dickpicks - everybody wants to share, nobody wants to listen

Here is another dickpick

I just love Schoenberg's progression through life. It's clear in pieces like Verklarte Nacht that he was MORE than capable of making accessible romantic works (and could have done so if he had toned V.N. right the fuck down) but was plagued by questions of more advanced, complex theory where he could break through tonality and use systems to 'equalise' music. And that despite his grandeur and egotism, he knew he had failed in creating the truly transcendental atonalism he had dreamed of, forever lost as a whimsy or a dream despite his best and most extensive efforts to establish them in reality.

IDK I think he gets far less credit than he really deserves. If he weren't plagued by "what ifs" he could have become incredibly rich just by making tired pretty little program pieces but instead he fucked it and experimented with what is now regarded as cold, lifeless pretensions by the lesser masses.

he... he died for our sins, guys

latest

seriously though, Verklarte Nacht is a hella important piece to me + it deserves much of the 'spect.

He had a period of real dreariness, but i think people read too much into other people, his last works were atonal too (i think). As for atonal, he only wanted to free up the melodies from the tonal harmonies and never considered himself as some experimental weirdo. I like some of his atonal works very much, after many listens i can actually hum to them. This one is my favorite:

Haven't really listened to a lot of classical music lately. Back when I did my favorites were Schubert and Bach, so nothing particularily special. As a Finn I also gotta mention Sibelius.

Do any of you guys listen to music when browsing NMA?

I like to listen to "Desert Wind" and "Vats of Goo" by Mark Morgan. Obviously, it suits this place well.

I prefer music.

Everything that starts with B, is overplayed, please refer to Ravel and Debussy for further assistance.

WHAT SPEWING PIG SHIT IS THIS? DO YOU NOT EVEN KNOW WHAT IN GOD'S NAME YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT?!

GROSSE FUGE!

Oh no, because I already see through your falsehood you philistine fuck. If you had an tiny inkling of a brain inside that neanderthal skull that broke your whore mothers spine as you splattered out into this horrible world, you would not make such a horrendous comment to GROSSE FUGE!

ALL OF YOU PEOPLE are what make me SICK with your FUCKING false CLASS and TASTE when you can't even see what the hell is right infront of your noses, stock of inbred swine away from the laboring backs of the honorable people that toil and eat your shit!

Shit like "B is overplayed!" What fucking bullshit! If you knew anything about goddamn stringed instruments you would know that B and B MINOR not B you fuck is a RARE fucking tuning reserved only for the most MAJESTICALLY OVERPOWERING pieces that are reserved for the TRUE SPIRIT!

You post little kid playing with doorknobs Schoenberg, because HE WAS A DEGENERATE IN GERMANY! HE MUST BE SPECIAL! BOOHOO. Do you see Einstein, or Beksinski playing that card? NO! BECAUSE THEY HAVE FUCKING CHARACTER!

Fuck you! YOU CUNT SHIT FUCK! I would overlook such things if you kept your pig mouth shut about GROSSE FUGE however you stand like a dandy with your pecker to the wind pissing all over your own face! I LAUGH AT YOU!

You fake impostering cunt!

I am accepting of opinions, I am open minded, and I accept everyone as equal. However this is the bile that runs from the pours of humanity is what sucks everything pure and good out of this world so that parasites can fester in ignorance and mediocrity!

I accept your pathetic attempt to look superior to people with real taste, however if this was Poland eighty scored years prior, you would be tasting PIANO WIRE!

Just wanted to share that I just got a new Job, a more stable one than my previous 2 year shtick as a Freelance. It actually feels kinda nice knowing that I don't have to worry each week about wether I'll be getting any money this month at all and having to borrow money from my mother.

Congratz Walpknut. I know how important it can be to have a steady day job, kind of puts your whole life in proper order.

Me, I'm in that freelance situation right now and work is a bit scarce. I did have a day job for almost two years before this situation so there was that. Unemployment is a big problem in my country, always has been.

Guess what I saw this morning in front of the door of my Apartment?

A dead woman.

At first I thought it was just someone who had passed out in the hallway, but when I got closer I notcied she had a pool of blood under her head and blodd dripping out of her nose, so she probably either threw herself or fell off one of the top floors. I was the first one to find out but I was going late for work so I had to get the Watchman and cleanning lady of the building because I couldn't stay longer. My stomach is still turnning, that was something I was not expecting to see in the morning....

Unfortunate, how tall is the building? I saw a woman who jumped of a 12 storey building right on the edge of a pavement. Her body parts were in the wrong places with some bones sticking out. I was 11 years old when i saw this.

It's a 10 story building, but I am not sure how far did she jump from. I am actually thinking wether she jumped last night or in the morning. I did hear a weird sound last night when eating dinner coming from the general direction of the hallway, I thought it was something on my kitchen that fell off but I didn't see anything out of place then, maybe that was when she jumped....

Bloody hell, that sounds dreadful. I wonder what was going through her mind, or if it just occurred accidentally. I’ve never personally seen a body that died from falling. I do recall seeing a squirrel next to a large puddle of blood, and it was the most gruesome scene that I had seen with my own eyes. I feel so sorry for her & her loved ones.
