After having worked on a Comcast call center for a full 5 months I can't take most americans complaints about their consumr service seriously at all.

I can atest that 80% of callers are unhelpful idiots that can't even be assed to cooperate with the simplest information, some of them even think they know better and will REFUSE to give you information that is needed to open the account to help them. A lot of them are also highly racist and xenophobic, demanding being transfered as soon as they hear an accent and they always demand shit that is impossible, like their cable getting fixed at 12 in the night, some people will even be complaining about lack of service when they haven't even connected the modem at all. Some will even get angry because they dialed the wrong option in the automated service and they need to be transfered.
There are people who are also pretty hostile right out of the bat. Some won't even follow instructions and demand that you unplug their modem at a distance.

Everytime I hear someone complain about their costumer service I roll my eyes and have really awful flashbacks.

It's obvious that Kojima wasn't the only person that made Metal Gear great. I forgot the one guy that left the team but he worked on the first three MGS games with Kojima. Once he left the quality in the games decreased a little bit as far as story is concerned.

Starfox got delayed... Man Nintendo is seriously just blatantly ditching the WiiU at this point.

TGS 2015 summarized: Everything got delayed, Whoops.

Nintendo is just prolonging the inevitable demise of the Wii U. I believe Starfox looked like shit last they showed it so they are polishing it up a bit.

Nintendo could very easily pull the WiiU off the mud if they went full pandering mode and just started producing ALLL the sequels people want, make a new Mario RPG, a Pokemon Home Console game, an actual metroid, shit like that.... but no, Mario Maker, guys. Also toys. And only 3 games a year on your console.

They don't have the people to put out that many games otherwise I think they would. Plus they hardly work with other developers. Games like Bravely Default don't exist on Wii U.

Mario Maker looks fucking awesome. It almost looks like a Mario Paint spinoff.

So I've bought the first Call of Duty game I've purchased in years. I know, ~!MASSIVE GASP!~. It was Black Ops II. And technically it's a Treyarch game, not Activision. I plan on doing a real review on it.

I don't think I've ever been as disappointed with a game as I was with MGSV. Maybe Spore.

Still, MGSV is a blast to play. Definitely the best Metal Gear when it comes to gameplay mechanics. Can't comment on the story since there wasn't one.

But WHICH MGSV, though? Ground Zeroes? Phantom Pain? The next in a long line of never-ending subtitles?

Personally, having never played the Metal Gear series myself, but watched plenty of people play its many titles- excluding MGSIV, which I DID play and did NOT like at all -I just don't understand the appeal of them. I don't mind games that are heavy on story... not by virtue, anyway. But when I watch the Let's Play videos of Phantom Pain, I can't understand who would tolerate watching THIRTY SOLID MINUTES of cutscenes before they ACTUALLY begin to play the game. Hell, before the game even starts to show its opening credits!!! It's unreal how much of the games are passive experience and how much is actual gameplay. I understand that Kojima likes that sort of thing, and it's defined his games, but that really ONLY extends to the MGS games. The original Metal Gear, after all, was ENTIRELY gameplay, and you COULD skip past the dialog boxes, if you chose. P.T. was ENTIRELY gameplay, not one unending sequence of videos. So clearly Kojima can make a great GAME, not just a great cinematic.

So I don't really get the appeal of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. But whatevs. That makes me one less person out of MILLIONS buying them. I'm happy, and Konamzies is happy. So who really cares?

You don't like long cutscenes with no gameplay? But I thought you like the Telltale "games"?

Mario Maker looks fucking awesome. It almost looks like a Mario Paint spinoff.
Mario Maker does look like a lot of fun, but not "Pay 60 dollars for it" fun. if it was 20 dollars I would be more inclined to buying.

Actually you are totally off base there. Phantom Pain is the most gameplay orientated game in the series. Sure, the introduction is an hour long, but every other mission in the game is totally non linear with few cutscenes. Even the ending cut scenes are short as hell. I spent 2 hours on one mission, planning it out meticulously, executing things silently before exiting the base undetected. If someone plays Phantom Pain and doesn't enjoy it, they need to cease playing stealth games because they might not be their thing. The story in the newest one can be skipped if need be. Splinter Cell has a shit story but good stealth too.

I don't understand you not liking the series really since you are a big anime fan. Wait I bet it's partially due to the hate boner you have for the military industrial complex isn't it? It kinda deconstructs that. At times the dialog does drag on, but the exposition in these games can get pretty philosophical from politics to child soldiers to the moral quandary of genetic manipulation. It talks about some interesting stuff. MGS 1 popularized long cutscenes with interactive elements. It was the first game that truly felt like a movie. An action movie in this case. More James Bond-esque than even Goldeneye on the N64.

Metal Gear games are notorious for easter eggs of all kinds, and gimmicks that few people will ever see, like if you play MGS 1 with a mono TV. The Psycho Mantis boss fight in MGS 1 might be one of the most unique fight in any game, stealth or otherwise, so it definitely has it's merits. MGS 2 is one of the biggest bait and switches in gaming history. Kojima has some pretty great ideas at times. His games feel like they are polished (usually) with extra love and care.

You played and didn't like MGS 4 partly because you had no attachment to the characters. One could argue the game doesn't give you much to do with hour long cut scenes, but many fans found a kind of catharsis by the time it was all said and done. Solid Snake and Big Boss finally settled things and the story was tied up with a nice little bow...temporarily. Metal Gear has went through an amazing transformation since the old MSX games. The series is known for retcons and lore inconsistencies because Kojima always made every game like it would be his last. I think the series is unique because of his effort to stray away from the norm. People wanted another Snake game with MGS 2. He said fuck that. You get a little bit of Snake and then you play as this new guy.

When a new Metal Gear came out you always knew it would surprise you. With most series you know what you are going to get, but Metal Gear likes/liked to pull the rug out from underneath you. It makes it all the more harder since Kojima won't make another one.

I can tell you haven't played the Phantom Pain, because it's been heavily criticized for being VERY light on cutscenes. I think there's less than 20 in the entire game. Most of them are three minutes long.

The only MGS game that matches what you're describing is MGS4, which is often heavily criticized for being massively heavy on cutscenes. Nearly everyone agrees that it is the worst MGS game out of the entire series.

As for what the appeal of the MGS games is, well for me it's the fun characters, wacky plot, fun stealth and gameplay as well as heavily emotional moments that give a perfect blend of camp and seriousness.

The MGS games are just fun to play, mechanically speaking. MGS1, 3 and the Phantom Pain specifically are an absolute joy to play through.

I can tell you haven't played the Phantom Pain
And I can tell people are not READING a damn thing I even write. Seriously, I SPECIFICALLY STATE that the only MGS game I played was IV, and that I watched the first 50 minutes of a TPP Let's Play. Where in this COMPLETELY OPEN FRANKNESS does "I can tell" come into the picture? It's not even just this comment directly above, it's a bunch of shit people have been saying lately, arriving at totally false conclusions based on what I say, clearly displaying that they did not read my words, or telling my I'm "wrong" when they describe EXACTLY what I just said being what they believe to be "right", another obvious example of not reading a single thing I say. Finding my tendency for lengthy explanation exhausting is one thing, but lacking any competency in reading comprehension is another matter entirely.

And no, I wasn't describring ANYTHING other than TPP. Not IV. Not I. Not II. I was describing TPP. Solid half hour of cutscenes. I don't care that you can control the camera for most of it, or that you can walk through a large part of it. It's all just one big introductory cutscene that lasts waaaaaaaaaaay too long. In concept, I LIKE the idea of introducing a character as recovering from a coma and NOT falling back on this silly crutch idea that they're suddenly capable of getting up and moving around within minutes, so it's nifty that the game acknowledges that you were a cripple until some drugs kicked in. But it still facilitating a DRAG-ON of an opening.

Edited because I don't feel like messing with it right now.
