General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Crni, you are describing Coop domination, which is hectic fun but a lot of what you describe happens. The main problem is too much air support absolutely flattening the objective before the majority of the server (ground troops) can get in and get some kills.

My fav. mode is Insurgency. No choppers/arti/a-10s. Just good old teamwork. If you die you can spawn right on a teammate as long as enemies arent too close. The AI side can have a few PC players which really makes it a lot more fun.

The other day I was playing we had about 6 guys on top of some hilltop compound. We were on the roof of it plinking away at the AI goatherders running across fields towards us. We were taking fire but none of it was accurate so we just continued to enjoy ourselves from this vantage point. Thats when some player on the insurgent side called in arty directly on our building, destroying it entirely. A minute later after revive we found ourselves running the gauntlet over the same fields we we killing the AIs in. It was awesome.

Other than hackers and skywalkers, I never had this problem in CS. I had a much bigger problem with the whiney bitches who would complain about using "exploits" and "glitches" which were part of the map and non-game breaking. Things such as standing on 1" ledges. Games have rules which they function by which is why I hate people who insist on playing by their own imaginary rules. Are bugs and glitches a part of that? As long as they aren't game breaking (such as skywalking), absolutely. That is, until they are patched.

I guess it's a matter of preference, but I always liked a pure contest of skill more. Also, folks taking every kind of advantage like, using your example, standing on a 1" ledge simply kill the atmosphere. I like to immerse myself when playing the game and such things simply break the suspension of disbelief for me. Lastly, I enjoy a casual experience - I log in, have fun shooting folks while immersing myself in the game's atmosphere and don't want to worry about people who practice such bullshit to get they kill counter to insane levels, while they usually go down pretty quick in a 1-on-1.

But it really isn't a thing that can be discussed - people play the way they enjoy. I can speak for myself only.

Did anyone try Magicka?
I was about to give it a shot but then i read that theres no loot system and no experience after monster kills..
(Diablo fan here)
Try out the demo on steam and see for yourself. I haven't bought it yet either, but I think that all the "learning" as you go is purely your own experimentation with the spells. And you can form a lot of interesting combinations with the different elements. That's the fun point of the game. :)

Well, just tried the Magicka demo, and it's a lot of fun. The game does have issues like unmappable mouse buttons and flickering shadows. It also seems unreasonably difficult if you're playing alone, you'd probably need at least 2 people to have fun (since if it's just you, you die and that's it, and savepoints seem far in between).

So, I'm still debating whether I want it or not.

Magicka sounded really interesting from my friend who has it, the whole spell building thing and unforgiving nature of the game (you can kill you self very easily with your own spells) sounds awesome to me.

For me that stuff got old when it was still called DoTA. But I guess I was never a huge fan anyway. Played Demigod for a while, which was good in its own different way, but that got boring too.
I'm not a big fan either, it's not my type of game really.

Map knowledge and discovering the best ambush spots is all part of being good at such games, even without finding map goofiness. Also some of the rediculous ledges are in completely useless spots and even the well placed ones can be easily countered if you know they are there. As for the atmosphere, I think that the 10 year old kids yelling on mics and general lack of coordination on pubs is a far bigger killer. Most multiplayer FPSes aren't about immersion anyway.

I agree, but I simply like when people stick to boundaries designed by the developers. Otherwise the game looses coherency and gameplay dissolves into "10 year old kids yelling on mics and general lack of coordination". If you don't treat it serious, that's what you get. Of course 10 year olds will always behave like 10 year olds, but some general discipline makes the game a whole lot better.

OK, Magicka is f-ing BOMB. It's one of the most fun games I've played recently. Sure, it's basically twitch-gaming, but it's also extremely versatile and addicting. I'm just waiting for them to fix all the bugs so that it hopefully runs smooth - the game has some sort of shadows issue on my laptop.

The single-player is a bit difficult at times, though, so I'm hoping to find some victims for co-op, eventually.

Interested in playing co-op, just to see how quickly a teamkill happens.

Edit: Just to clarify, a non intentional teamkill. :V

Co-op would be fun to try. Unfortunately, probably not until the next weekend, at least. Maybe we could get an NMA robe group together if we find two more people ;)

An (almost unintentional) teamkill will most likely occur as soon as someone casts a surprise meteor shower or thunderstorm. I've noticed that Meteor Shower seems to have a higher chance hitting you than any other place on screen

It's 10€ (well 9.99€ actually) on Steam.

I'm going to try out the demo later, looks like a fun game although I read it's rather short and pretty buggy.

£7.99, there are a couple of rare items like the M60 such as the Sword of the Masters (that even shoots beams when on full health) and also a lightsabre.

The guys seem to be pretty persistent about weeding out those bugs, though. So most of them will probably be gone soon. It's not that short - SP is about 10-15 hours for me, plus there's gauntlet.

Wow, a lightsaber. Gotta check this out, though I'll wait for a price to drop.

You may have to wait for a long while, since it's the top-selling Steam game right now. It also doesn't have much further for the price to drop.

^Thanks for that info.

The game runs fine for me after forcing triple buffering with d3d overrider. Other than the initial low FPS I don't think I have encountered any bugs.

Since I've got about 5-6 games that I still haven't completed, for which I will need time, it won't be a problem. Or, if it doesn't drop, well, that price won't kill me.
