General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

For some reason i just can't get excited about games as much as i used to, it just feels like a guilty pleasure, like i should be doing something more usefull. Anyone else get that feeling?
Yes very much so. Actually when it comes to games right now I am more interested in the development/concept art behind it then really playing it (well maybe because I am doing concepts by my self and thus always like to see what others, professional artists and game designers come up with). For example I never get the idea of playing Wow but I bought some a rt-books about it recently and love watching the trailers. What ever if Wow is now good or not but I think Blizzard has some of the most talented art departments out there.

Serious Sam HD: SE. Not sure why they thought a re-make of a perfect game was necessary, but I'm not to complain. Most fun I've had with a shooter in YEARS.

Been messing around with Bad Company 2, which is fairly fun (for a battlefield game) but definitely not the CoD4 killer I've been hearing about.

Giving players something to work towards with the unlock system is cool and all, but they fucked up big time with how pathetically weak the starting weapons are compared to the shit you unlock after ~50+ hours of playtime.

The netcode is completely fucked. If I play ANY other mutiplayer game on a decent nearby server, I'm under 30 ping. Always.

In BC2, you might see a single person after hopping from three servers with a sub 100 ping, and it'll be between 85-95. Combine this with the fact that weapons aren't hitscan, and all projectiles have travel time/drop; good luck hitting shit if you're used to playing shooters with a low ping.

Then there's the team stacking problem.

In the majority of servers, teams are stacked HARD. This results in the losing team hemorrhaging players, then players from the stacked team getting autobalanced to the losing team.. and then leaving because being on the receiving end of the rape fest sucks. This sort of thing happens a LOT, and could have been easily fixed by adding a team scramble option.

There's also the complete lack of teamwork, which means two good players in a tank or helicopter can and will dominate 16 terrible players, since taking them down will require a coordinated effort or extreme dumb luck.

Anyway, despite all of the bullshit; if you can land yourself on a team that's actually working together, the game is pretty awesome.

Still progressing slowly through NV doing any little side quest I can to get the most of it.

and been playing Starcraft 2 (single player), i actually enjoy it, despite me never liking rTS that much except for Age of Empires II

It's better for PC players who seem to instincitvely work with other people but horrible when playing it on the console.
Doesen't help it lacks the command wheel which was a really dumb thing to do as it's what makes the previous Battlefield games so easy to teamwork.

I'm playing it on the PC (I don't own an xbrick or ps3). Teamwork is EXTREMELY rare, and pretty much all communication is kids spamming stale 4chan shit like "U MAD BRO? OLOLOLOL". It's something I'd expect from console users, but I'm pretty surprised to see this sort of thing happening on nearly every server in the pc version.

Maybe it's better on EU servers, but I nearly never have ping issues. The lack of teamwork can be annoying, but all it takes is a 2 friends you can play with and you're set for a good match.
Not too much LOLkids either, but again, might be the regional difference...

All in all, I love this game to death. I can't compare at all though, since I haven't played any other similar game.

Speaking of teamwork, i find ARMA 2 to have players that like to "roleplay" real marines. Teamwork isnt ever asked for, it kinda just happens. Even if no one is barking out orders, you run into groups of players covering each other, bounding overwatch, and calling out contacts. Hahah its kinda funny hearing some geeky dude talk all military speek.

I am not saying that youre wrong but I had not that "teamplay" experience in Arma 2. Actually what I noticed was that people rushed from point to point killing AI or players in a random fashion. Just like in most other shooters. Of course that might had something to do with the server because frankly they had shit missions, all kind of weapons available to everyone. What really killed arma for me though are the jerks. Teamkillers, idiots, kidz, people which have nothing bette to do then fly the plane in their own spawn and bail out before its crashing, shooting the rotors of your helicopter forcing it to land/crash etc. etc. etc. ...

Well in both Arma and BC2 teamwork is completely random. In BC 2 I have worked with a few snipers and shot a couple of people covering each other once, shame they weren't covering the main road where my tank was.

Only time I had a bunch of LoLkids was when they were arguing over who should crash the helicopter. They were so busy shooting each other by the launchpad they kept getting gunned down by the Russian helicopters.

Unfortunatly, most multiplayer games are fun only until people learn how to exploit and break them. Then it's a grind to perfect using these exploits to make sure you aren't even able to land a single shot at them while they are mowing down 90% of your team, including you. At that point you either stoop down to their level and learn these techniques yourself or stop playing, since it's pointless and will only frustrate you. That's how it was for me with each and every multiplayer shooter.

You should all see League of Legends , the amount of retards you can come into contact in one day is ridiculous .
Rage quit , swearing , feeding on purpose , not knowing when not to rush , NOT SPEAKING PLAIN ENGLISH , god there is more...
And if you leave the game , which has to go for at least 25 mins for surrender vote to come , you get leave points and then they can vote to ban you which is a stupid system anyway . Also if someone wants to destroy the game and you get out from champions queue noticing that godless bastard you have to wait 15 mins before you can start another game .

Multiplayer is for premade .

I prefer League of Legends to Heroes of Newerth anyday, at least the community isn't entirely made up of assholes who have their heads up their asses. Now if the HoN community was actually helpful, it could be a fun game.

Other than hackers and skywalkers, I never had this problem in CS. I had a much bigger problem with the whiney bitches who would complain about using "exploits" and "glitches" which were part of the map and non-game breaking. Things such as standing on 1" ledges. Games have rules which they function by which is why I hate people who insist on playing by their own imaginary rules. Are bugs and glitches a part of that? As long as they aren't game breaking (such as skywalking), absolutely. That is, until they are patched.

I prefer League of Legends to Heroes of Newerth anyday,

For me that stuff got old when it was still called DoTA. But I guess I was never a huge fan anyway. Played Demigod for a while, which was good in its own different way, but that got boring too.

Anyway, playing Just Cause 2, such a ripp-off from GTA in a lot of game elements, but when you finally get actual missions to do those are purely badass.

I got it from GoG.com, but hadn't tried it. Off your comment I did yesterday. This is the way ALL casual FPS should be made. Hardcore FPS is for realism (like Counterstrike) or storytelling (like Half-Life).

It's a timeless classic. Although, wait till you get to later levels to see if you wanna retract the "casual" part of that statement - it can get a bit difficult.

If you've got a buddy with nothing better to do, make sure you try the co-op mode. Select one of the 3 boss levels, and set it to infinite respawns. Lotsa fun and messing around.

Did anyone try Magicka?
I was about to give it a shot but then i read that theres no loot system and no experience after monster kills..
(Diablo fan here)
