General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Skipped both The Darkness II & KoA: Reckoning, went for MGS HD Collection instead. :D

Playing Snake Eater, I'm lovin' it!

I really liked Snake Eater. I didn't like it as much as MGS2 though. I don't know why.

Star Trek Online now that it's free to play. It's not bad. It's in a weird spot where it's too good to be free, but I wouldn't pay a subscription fee for it.

Tell me about the MGS HD collection. One thing about Snake Eater, is it begged for a higher resolution. Has this happened? Does it look fucking amazing on a 1080 display? Also, is it the Subsistance version with the rotatable camera or the regular fixed camera version? One more thing, is Peace Walker included? I saw that game included for the X-Box MGS collection. Never even heard of it, but i think it originally was a PSP game.

PS: My finger is hovering over the purchase button on steam for Jagged Alliance: Back in Action. Will it be good or complete utter shite? Will I make the same mistake I made with Dead Island and go for the day 2 buy? Or wait to hear from others thoughts? Can't decide.
PPS: Gothic 3 with community patch is... awesome, but it might be a little too big of a game. I stopped playing it after like 30 hours and I wasn't even through a third of the game. The combat has been simplified. All in all though it is a very well realized world, with chouce and consequence.,Sorry for the typos, the message box stops scrolling after this muych typing, so i have no idea what mistakes i'm making right now.

It isn't MGS 4 pretty, but it still looks very nice. So yes, it somehow screams of improvement.

Both. You can switch between them by pressing R3.

Yup. It also includes the original NES Metal Gear games.

I basically bought it to play peace walker but had to replay MGS3 for the 7th or so time. It's my favorite console game and looks great in HD. Even peace walker looks pretty good on my 32inch tv. I wish it included portable ops but now that I own a psp I'll probably grab that too.

So I cracked and bought Jagged Alliance: Back in Action
So far, it's looking better than I expected. The real experience wont really start untill I start getting money and better equipment/mercs, but so far, I'm impressed with what I see. Instead of turn based, it has a neat "command mode" where the game pauses and you can queue up orders on a timeline for each merc in a squad. Want to synchronize a move/shoot order so the entire team holds fire untill the last man gets in position? You can synch orders between mercs so that they wait untill the other is ready. In theory, you could queue up a bounding overwatch and other fun stack/grenade/clear timelines.
Unfortunately, there are a few cons:
No free, custom merc that you get in the beginning after taking the personality quiz. What a bummer!
Camera is going to take getting used to.
Lots of typos.
Not sure but, I dont think the environment is completely destructable. There are these semi-transparent explosives icons that seem to denote "explosives ready" walls.

All in all it is still early to recommend. But this is definately not the day 1 buy disappoint like Dead Island was for me.

Jagged Alliance: BIA.

Rarely have I been annoyed so much by some of the mechanics involved in this game. Goddamn it!

(but I still want to continue playing it)

I'm still enjoying it. Fox and Wolf are my first mercs. Fox has high enough stealth to be able to crouch anywhere and just assassinate enemies as she pleases. (at least so far, still in Drassen though)
The only mechanic that really is bugging me is the auto-unload of guns when switching or putting them away. I had just enough time to pull out my gun, reload it, and put down a charging axe man before he had the chance to chop my head off.
The environments are really nice. It's very cool to see the old Arulco in 3d, with all the details.

I'm a real fucking jinx, that's what I am. Every single gun shop I've visited in Wasteland so far got bugged and disappeared. Now I can't sell or buy any weapons, and I'm loaded with needless stuff I don't want to just drop. Damn it.
I doubt there's, but any fix for this?

According to Per's guide, only the shop in Darwin doesn't get this bug, but I'm still in Needles. Don't even know where the Darwin is.

I think you're screwed big time man. Wasn't the trigger for that bug explained in per's guide?

Indeed it was.
Turns out my past self is way smarter than my present self and made a shitload of backup files after the first incident with the Quartz shop. I have lost some progress, but nothing that can't be fixed with an hour of playing or something.
Lucky thing I remembered that from the guide and lucky thing I remembered about having those backups at all, or I'd probably drown myself in sorrow and start all over.

I am sometimes utterly amazed by my own stupidity.

I have started playing Catherine again. This time I am being a dick to Katherine, but flirty with Catherine. The Rapunzel game is pretty impressive. I think it is cool having a game within a game. I want more games like this one.

At night I have been playing Resident Evil 4. I must say that the game is still slightly scary, not in the "Oh Shit" kind of way, but the "Tense Legs" kind of way. I find myself tensing up in anticipation of ambushes and stuff like that. It still doesn't measure up to the scares I got in RE 1-3 though. I may play Code Veronica after this one since I don't have my Gamecube to play the other ones.

Beat ff7 on PSP, not nearly as good as it was 12 years ago or so when I played it first. Now I'm playing ff8 on psp, the ultimate bathroom accessory.

Just reinstalled Freelancer so I'm giving that a whirl as well as Rise of Legends.

For console I'm in the middle of a ton of games but will probably play some shadow of the colossus while I wait for ME3

Finished Snake Eater, damn...we need more games like this. Also, IMO this is the best game in the series and probably one of the best espionage games ever. There are so many cool things you can do.

Played a little bit of Peace Walker last night. To be honest it was kind of let down. I can imagine that this game was made for a portable system but still, all technical limitations aside, why the hell can't I save during the missions?! Wasn't this supposed to be something you want to play on the go?! I mean you don't even have the option to go back to the games main menu. How the developers came up with this is beyond me.

Yes you do. Definitely one of the better titles released last year.

I started playing Earthbound again. I really need to play Mother 1 and 3. I am so pissed they didn't release Mother 3 over here. Fucking bastards. They worked on that game forever! I remember when it was supposed to be a N64 title. Sweet memories.

It really pains me to this day that Earthbound 64 never got to see the daylight. I remember how I was hyped after seeing some videos of the games early build.

Sweet memories indeed. :(

Yeah I feel ya. At least bits and pieces made it into Mother 3. I am considering trying to hunt down the fan translation and all that jazz.

Another great series to try out is Oddworld. The first two were so fucking awesome, but they dropped the ball on Munches Oddysey IMO. Strangers Wrath was pretty good though. Just talking about it makes me want to reinstall the original, but I don't have Exodus anymore. I have always wanted to buy the Art collection that they put out, but it runs over 50 bucks. They really put a lot of effort into making those games feel like real worlds. I love the comparison between the Mudokens and Native Americans. The game speaks to you on so many levels. Damn. Now I really do have to play it again. Time to open some portals bitches!

Edit: I played a little bit of Zombies Ate My Neighbors, but now I am about to dig into Mother 3 for the first time. I have heard that this game can make your brain explode, so if I don't ever post after tonight, then you all know why.
