General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Playing XCOM: enemy within on classic and seems like its worth the price, theres enough new content to justify buying it.

Game is definately way too easy on normal now due to the MEC:s. I had a challenge on normal when i played it back when Enemy unknown came out and now that i tried it, it seemed like a cakewalk, didnt lose a single guy during my try and i played until the first alien base assault mission. Or maybe im so experienced now that i need to play it on classic, i dunno. Seems like proper challenge on classic though so i recommend playing on it even if you found it too challenging before.

Also doing some games of Civ V brave new world and all the expansions with some friends, seems more like a full game now and much more enjoyable experience than the vanilla version i tried way back.

Enemy Within is the best expansion/dlc in a long time, in my opinion. It simple makes the game so much better, integrating nicely into the basic content and adding so much new stuff.

I also thought the game was a bit too easy on normal this time around. Yes, the Mech's are powerful. But still, the new missions can be pretty challening. No mission in the vanilla game threw 20+ chrysallids at you. So I think it's more a case of being better at the game and knowing how to play it to be successful.

I immediately started a classic playthrough when I finished on normal and I have to admit that it's a struggle. I've completed the vanilla game on classic, but didn't do iron man on that one. These days I refuse to play without iron man.

Just finished Ace Attorney 5.

Very good entry in the series, they could've easily caved in into stupid fanboys demands to undo everything in Apollo Justice just because, but they managed to keep it Ace Attorney-y while playing with the typical structure of the previous games, the last case is not as intense as the last case of the third game but it still was a very good mystery with all and the finger pointing goodness. The 3D models are just beautiful, specially for a handheld, they manage to be very polished while replicating the feeling of the classic sprites without sacrificing the flow of their animation. I am forthing at the mouth right now with this game, CAPCOM we need another one now, and this time makes sure to give the english localization more time to proof read their work, they had some typos and missing words here and there.

Just beat the Deus ex 2.
it's great game. it's plot is great, visual design was great, map design was great(especially, MAKO) and it's better than 1 or HR, quests are good and characters are good.

too bad combat became so simplified.
but it's not the main thing of DE2, so that wasn't big problem.
but combat of 1 and HR are also awful so.... actually, it wasn't bad for me among DE series.

I don't think I've ever heard someone say they like DE2 over the first one before. But I kinda liked it, not nearly as good as the first one but not as horrible as most people seem to think it is. Personally I don't think it can touch DE1's story and exploration.

I found Deus Ex 2's story to be at a bad start. It was a lame attempt to get the player interested in the factions, and the whole 'conspiracy' seemed forced solely due to the Deus Ex in the title. I stopped playing after leaving the Seattle area.

Fun thing about Half life 1.. The demo had a better map than the original game and i went trough it way more times than i even thought of going trough the original game :P

Also i'm done with vampire the masquerade and for some reason i've been looking at Papers, Please.. It is not a game i would ever look at but after following a guy that is playing it i did get an urge to buy it.

Just beat Portal 1&2.
gave me some good fun.
but feels like grinded meat.
chopped into too small particles so bearly feel the taste of meat.
stage is too short and loading is too long and frequent.
8 minuet of playing time and 2 minuet for loading.
puzzles and pathfinding is too linear..
anway, it was good.

and characters are funny.
especially, wheatley.
and turrets are cute.

While I wouldn't go as far to say that a half hour long demo was better than a full game it was an excellent demo that puts many modern demos to shame, a distilled Half Life experience that felt complete. Had to get my brother to kill the headcrabs back when it was first released. :V

Currently pootling about with Starbound, usually not to keen on Minecraft/Terraria esque games but this one has a certain charm due to it's backstory and fluff.

You can actually do that.. The demo didn't really have anything bad but all the good parts were the main game had several long and boring parts!

Speaking of Half Life. If you guys have blue shift you should really try the mod azures sheep http://www.moddb.com/mods/azure-sheep as this mod is really how blue shift should have been. A master piece of a mod from back in the days :)

At the moment I'm playing Assassins Creed:Brotherhood on PC, I'm having a lot of fun with it, it's probably my personal favourite in the series, though the city itself is a little boring.

I'm considering buying Starbound,it looks like Terarria in space and seems rather interesting, has anyone played it yet?

Yes, Starbound is awesome. The resource-grinding is kinda annoying in the beginning, but the exploring of all the different planets is really, really cool. I was really surprised by what kind of stuff you can come across.
The finished game will be amazing, I think.

I've been slogging through FF8 for a week now. About halfway through.
Back in the day I only tried the FF8 demo so this game was always that game that I never actually got to play.
Didn't like Squall at first since he's so quirky and anti-social but now I like that since it's a nice change of pace from the other smoth-talking kleptomaniac do-gooders I play in other games.

But I'd sell my firstborns for a mod that replaces that Draw-system with the FF7 magic system, or something similar.
It's a real grind, I'm fine with that part, but it's such a huge time-sink that it's ridiculous.
If there's an enemy that has some spells I haven't gotten before I'll have to spend 10-15 minutes to fill up all three characters.

The good part about this game is that I'll get an overdose in social drama and be allowed to finish off Skyrim so I begin enjoying FNV again :)

Spent 43 hours in it so far. For a beta it's not too shabby, mechanically it's mostly complete with plenty to do in the way of resource gathering, exploring planets and house building. Race lore books found in towns and dungeons help flesh out the universe and give it more depth than the mostly random Terraria.
However it's currently missing a lot of the more in depth stuff such as questlines, side quests and better npc a.i. Though judging by the rate of large patches and updates it shouldn't take that long for them to be implemented. For example a recent blog post on the main site showed they are making a start on the above issues.
Also Florans are annoyingly cute with their lisp.

Apparently the PC version released on Steam of FFVIII has an option to auto max a lot of spells in it to bypass most of the pain of drawing.

Bought Nether and so far i feel like badluck Brian..
Find a gun? No ammo and 6 enemies spawn next to me. Ahh well first try!
Find close to 100 bullets for pistol AND rifle. Found 0 weapons and got gunned down by a guy with the worst aim EU.
Found 9 and i'm not even shitting you crowbars and as i'm about to head to base to turn of some loot the "defence" thingy malfunction and everyone is shooting everyone in the safe zone.. AKA me :P

Think i will stay away untill tomorrow or i may get pissed.

Borderlands 2

It's okay for the most part, and I can see some of the appeal, but don't completely understand it. Co-op is nice and all, but making the game designed around that concept makes it too contemporary in a way. At least in Resident Evil 5, and 6 you can always play with the AI; meanwhile in Borderlands 2 there are certain parts where a fight can be a lot easier by having a partner with you. People will eventually stop playing the game, and friends aren't always readily available. Plus, having to deal with randoms can be quite a pain before you find cool people.

Not that I think the game is hard, just the opposite in fact; even without other people the game is relatively easy. I only ever die because of overpowered enemies who can deplete my shield and most of my health in a few seconds. Difficulty in general is arbitrary now that I think about it. It mostly comes from a seemingly endless wave of enemies that the game throws at you with a few different types of harder to kill enemies while sometimes annoyingly spawning enemies from behind you. Got rather tiresome after a while that I just started to run past enemies instead of killing everyone.

I also feel that there was a lot of story potential that was squandered by everyone ignoring that Maya is a Siren as well when you're playing as her. Well, just in general having the PCs being mostly mute made the plot a lot less interesting. I know that they did that since you can play as 4-6 different characters, and only one of them is a Siren, but they're supposed kind of a big deal.

I've tried playing BL2 for months now, and I feel the same as you about it. I just upgraded to a 1440p monitor, and the game looks incredible, plus enemies are much easier to see/hit, but I still have gone on to other games instead; mainly New Vegas. New Vegas in 1440p is like an entirely new game. Just gorgeous and wide-open, rather than the relatively claustrophobic BL2.

Been playing Arkham Origins, perfect Christmas title.

I don't get why they have been giving it so much shit, a game doesn't have to reinvent the wheel to be good, or to get 10/10s from "journalists the rest of the year.
The story is entertainning, nothing super ground breaking but not horrible, the side content is done in a less blatlant colectathon way and yo ucan use Deathstroke in the Challenge mode. It was fun.

Although I havnt played any Arkham games, I was very suprised to see it lambasted on PCGamer for "more of the same"
What happened to the mantra "If it ain't broke"?
Especially concerning the trend where "reinvent the wheel" has become dumb down and hand hold every step. (splinter cell)

Anyway, speaking of reinventing the wheel, Assetto Corsa is happily downloading at a hotlap speed of 3.2mbps. Can't wait to warm up those F40 tires.

Playing a lot Pokemon X and Dwarf Fortress but I have a little problem with Dwarf Fortress, I think I might be playing it wrong, nothing bad happened to me yet.
