General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

I'm playing a fantasy game called "i wish i was playing video games, alas i'm on an arm based chromebook".

When you see what happened to the BG "legacy" with Brotherhood of Steel, what made you think new BG would somehow be something you ought to look forward to?
Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition was marketed as "incline", simply a renovated Baldur's Gate. I thought people who are willing to renew Baldur's Gate wouldn't tamper with the soundtrack and that their added companions would be less terrible. Seriously, that line "I am Adoy and Adoy is me" is right up with "Steel be with you" in my book. I think my memory is trying to block some of it, I only just remembered that you could tell Neera "make me a sammich" in one of the romance conversations. Holy shit.
Yeah, that's what I mean. Whether it's fanmade or official, this past generation (and the current generation hasn't gotten off either) has taught me to not have any expectations. When I heard about New Vegas for the first time, less than a year after FO3, I felt bummed out. Imagine my glee when I read an article about the game, months later, and found out it was being headed by Obsidian and the article detailed all kinds of additions to the game that the previous disappointment was sorely lacking. Not having any expectations made me VERY happy when a good product came out. By contrast, I was hoping for the best a decade ago when I brought home my PS2 copy of BOS, and those hopes were cut to ribbons. I also kept a close eye on the RP for a couple years before I'd say I "caved" and downloaded it, and it was only after looking into it for all that time yet going in without any high expectations that I was more than pleasantly surprised, but rather absolutely blown away, when the mod turned out to be absolutely amazing.

Looking back, it's kinda shocking how big of a difference my gaming and game purchasing habits is now from just 5 years ago. Sometimes, it takes time and plenty of discipline to teach yourself to not go in with high hopes, because then you can only be delighted. Case in point, Yahtzee's Gamer Matrix. XD

As for me, I got a new TV a few days ago. So that means more console gaming, so it's back to Bloodborne for me! =D

Of the downsides I've noted, the damn thing reflects practically ANYTHING, so I really need to be playing in a damn-near pitch black setting to see the game without any reflected distractions. Even opening my curtains just a smidgin SOMEHOW reflects back on the screen, despite the fact that the screen faces the same direction as my windows, so it's the wall BEHIND ME that I'm seeing in the reflection. Sometimes, pristine is just a bit too far... >_<

GTA 5, Call of Duty: AW, TF2, FFIV, a bunch.

Two of those aren't that great. FFIV? Ugh. I hate what they did to those games. GTA 5 took well over a year to be released on PC. Pc ports are increasingly being released broken, often by no-name devs, with modders needing to fix things to even get the games running stable. It almost seems like some developers don't really care about the PC versions of their games. Of course they aren't all bad.

Well one GTA isn't on PC for me and FFIV is a good game though the stupid always on internet connection sucks. Call of Duty is meh but I got it for the wife for free because she likes bot killing.

GTA 5 is a blast with an Insurgent with a .50 cal and friends to tear things up.

Oh and Darkest Dungeon on Steam. Great roguelike game but it's still in early access but it's worth it. I bought the first 2 Witchers during the sale too but I'm not starting them yet.

17 hours in Baldur's Gate II Enhanced Edition. This time I'm skipping the new NPCs entirely, it's been a breath of fresh air. I was still forced to watch a fucking long cutscene of Neera trying to save a wild mage child. That kid had some of the most terrible voice acting ever, I was actually surprised, since the EE usually delivered awesome (or okay, at the very least) voice acting even for the most insignificant characters. Hopefully, I won't be forced to interact with any of them, ever again.

Anyhow, I'm playing a Paladin (Cavalier, to be specific), which is problematic for RP reasons, especially in BG2. I guess you could claim that a true LG paladin would want to save his sister, even if he has to deal with Shadow Thieves, or would think that Shadow Thieves are, at least, able to feel remorse and be redeemed at one point, unlike the vampires who are unholy by nature. I've seen these justifications on various forums, but I don't think it comes natural, especially considering the sharp divide between Good and Evil in the Forgotten Realms setting. Still, it doesn't really bother me, it strikes me that neither of the BG titles were meant to be RP-ed (in the sense that you think of a character and act according how he / she would act and still be able to complete the game without getting into an impossible scenario).

I recently finished Silent Hill 2. My love for the originals has always been a strange one in that I dig the games, but I never find myself wanting to replay them very often. When I do find myself wanting to play them, I always start out slow, playing for about an hour before stopping. Usually not that long after I'll finally do longer sessions once the story picks up a bit. It's just something odd that I noticed. But it's not just that, it's also probably one of the few series that I play a bit more casually with the difficulty.

Compared to Resident Evil, I'm just looking for mere enjoyment instead of a challenge. Then again when it comes to gameplay I think RE is superior to SH in every way with the exception being the puzzles. Probably the reason I generally prefer the RE series. Even the ones that moved from the classic formula can be enjoyed for their TPS mechanics. Well, with the exception of the first Revelations.

Anyway, went for the Maria ending. I'm such a huge sucker for the Leave ending that I always want to get it, but I forced myself to get something else this time.

you can still play older games and most new 2d games.

Not totally related to what you are saying, but i tend to have varying expectation WITHIN the same games. Many games that i loved had a pretty row start and get better afterward (like Fo2 that get better at Vault City or The Witcher 1 that only start on second chapter, FoNV getting better from Freeside, etc...) while many other had a pretty promising start ended up having a poor follow up... Of course, there are some exceptions, but most often than not, the early stage of the game doesn't say much about what happen after. (quality-wise)

I've been playing New Vegas with this mod.

To enhance the "cRPG feel" of the game, I'm guessing? My immediate reaction to seeing floating damage numbers is "MMO", so I'd never have thought to install such a mod on my own... XD

Well, as a consequence of my PC debacle, I'm FINALLY back around to playing FO2 again, this time with the latest version of the RP! =D

It's not ENTIRELY because of my PC dying on me that I decided to go back and play it, actually. It's been on my mind for quite some time. But there was always "something else" to play and keep me busy, so I never got around to it. I figured, once summer nears its end, and I'll be out and about more often, I could play FO2 while I'm out and waiting. So I had plans to play it. But my system dying hastened those plans, and it's a delightful upside to the whole affair. Cause, naturally, FO2 ROCKS! =D

I'm STILL a vanilla boy, when it all comes down to it. Now that I've completed the Den, I'm confused as to where I should go next, because on the one hand the Slaver Pens and Umbra Tribe are in the same direction to the Southwest, yet on the other hand, I'm MUCH more accustomed to heading East to hit up Modoc and Vault City on my way to visit the latter. Having new choices confuses me so much! XD

Currently been playing Fallout 2 (first playthrough) and loving it.

Otherwise, I'm quite fond of walking simulators/puzzle games, and am trying Ether One, where you work for a memory reconstruction agency that helps folks with dementia by inserting yourself into their minds and 'repairing' memories to look how they should. A little frustrating sometimes, a little too obvious other times, but it has a decent atmosphere. Not gounna come close to Gone Home though. Likewise, The Old City: The Leviathan is a literal walk-through game, and seems to tell a surreal and quite unreliable story of a broken world through the mind of an equally broken narrator. good environments and story is the only focus. Normally good, but a big part of it is a twenty thousand-ish word novella you can read through, and the writing is fucking awful. It's if a fifteen year old played Bioshock and then Wikipedia'd Nietzsche and nihilism, so so far I'm a little mixed on it. Am also playing Valiant Hearts, which is a mixed bag but the silly minigames really emphasise the despair that occasionally surfaces.

I've got my PS2 set up now, so I hope to replay SOTC and Project Zero/Fatal Frame over the summer.

That and it livens the game up a little. Playing it non stop for 5 years can get monotonous.
And here I am still playing FO2 15+ years later, and loving it. =D

I bet you didn't play it almost every day for 5 years straight. ;)

I play New Vegas a lot since I also mod it to my preference. It is always a work in progress.

About all I've "played" lately is the GECK for New Vegas. Working steadily on my New Vegas Interiors add on. Almost done! Just a couple of minor details to iron out before I release it.

I've been wondering about that. Good to hear.

Actually... damn near almost did. But Diablo II came along and certainly knocked me off the horse for a while. =/

I was so into it for so long, I made a REALLY SHITTY Fallout-inspired video game for one of my programming classes in High School. XD Ah, just thinking about those days reminds me of times when people could look at post apocalyptic material and KNOW off the top of their heads the name "Fallout" might have had something to do with it. Those were good days...

I OFTEN fantasize about the prospect of modding FO2 on my own, because I have simple goals relative to what I feel like the game "needs" in order to be properly "modernized". But my programming days are way behind me, and this last year of trying to update my digital artistry has simply reinforced my disdain towards digital art and my love of physical art, so I can't imagine I'd be able to mod it on my own anytime soon. Still, I thoroughly enjoy the work of others that have brought so much life and wonder to such an amazing game. ^^

Replayed Arkham Origins, such an underrated game, just because Rocksteady wasn't involved it got a lot of bad press for no reason, when it even has the best story in the Arkham series. The bugs are kind of annoying tho.
