I'm using:

- Stealth

Yeah I'm currently level 8 getting clobbered by the muties with the old key(cleaned all the other areas besides two out) and I'm getting rekt. Killed around 4-5 ghouls and 2-3 dogs then I have barely any health, I still have a stupid cooldowns timer on my stimpacks then the last dog comes in and has buttsecks with me.

Haha those muties were awful. I've just returned to that area with my higher level character. you don't have to go through them to get the drill parts, though. That's all I'm gonna say. Also, try crafting leather armor from those doghides. They should help a bunch if you don't want to wait till your char is stronger.

For my character I chose a stealthy assassin type. At first just with crossbows, throwing and traps, but soon I abandoned throwing (it's falling behind, but I can throw grenades relatively effectively) and invested a few levels into melee, because I can't keep everyone at bay, and I found I often got butchered when it got up close and personal. I don't deal massive amounts of damage, but thanks to my pneumatic gloves and crippling strike I can defend myself quite well now.

My skills:

Throwing
Crossbows
Melee

Dodge and evasion to a lesser extent.

Stealth
Hacking
Lockpickimg

And traps also to a lesser extent.

Some craftimg skills in there but I only improve my crafting skills whenever some new part requires me to. I mainly make hypos and crossbows. I don't invest in tailoring, although I feel like I should be having better armor for sure, but oh well, can't do everything. :)

No dialogue skills which is kind of sad because often enough I could use them.

Also, for the first time I've encountered a quest with multiple endings. So yay, it's not all linear! I've just invested a whole level in persuasion to complete it, though. Spreading those skills a bit thin now...

Also, I've just encountered this. Wow. This game keeps on surprising me in fun little ways!

Hmmmm... I have KOTOR 1 lying around somewhere. I should get started on that after Underrail. And then get my hands on KOTOR 2 as well. It sounds promising. I had some fun with KOTOR 1, but never got really far in the game.

You know dopezilla you might want to stick with only 8 skills because I would assume this game punishes you for attempting the jack of all trades route. I heard that the end game in the Dark Caverns is brutal as well especially if you don't focus on your build. I think I could've done mine better but I was just experimenting. As for avoiding the muties, I can't do that since I don't have my lockpicking at 75 and unlock the door to the tools(mine is at 54) and I already hacked into the security system besides that the one area where I can't access level 3 security.

Yeah, I reloaded and dropped the persuasion skill. Found another way. Gonna play some more Underrail right now and count my skills. I make sure to keep my main weapon skills maxed out, though. Gonna play some more now and take a look at my skills. I don't think I'm that far into the game, though, so the next few levels I'm going to invest purely into my core skills I think.

I've also been experimenting with my build a bit so far, but I'm going to take your advice and stick with what I've got.

Also, are you playing on normal difficulty?

Yes I'm on Normal(Hard just increases cooldown time). Slaughtered all the muties and dogs without mercy, got the tools then proceeding to give them to Tanner, left the SGS compound to an area with those interactive rocks outside the compound cave area to use the TNT charges I finally got access to, made it to an area with around 30 traps(talk about being paranoid), and now I'm inside this maze area with ladders(oh and more traps) so I'm gonna see where it leads if it doesn't result in my legs being blown off. I love exploiting chain link fences with doors around rathounds, they can't hit me then.

Just fooling around in the ArmA3 Editor/Virtual Arsenal and trying out some of the community made scenarios, campaigns and weapons or equipment. Oh, and a bit of Darkest Dungeon and Baldur's Gate 2 as well.

All that with some occasional Team Fortress 2 with my friends.

Just got Sniper Elite Nazi Zombie Army. Yup, I've been missing out.
Lately, I've been playing Return of Reckoning for those who remember Warhammer: AoR you know what I'm talking about. :D

Best to immediately install the expansion mod and another aditional location mod when you start the game for the first time to get the best experience.

Ah, I'm on easy mode after I got discouraged in the early game. Kind of regretting that choice by now, 'cause everything is getting a bit too easy now I'm somewhere in the mid game.

Also, you're in a fun place. Cool quest there. :D

Yeah the Rathound King. I know it's a kidnap quest but I want to kill him since I'm not into doing that kind of stuff, looks like I'm gonna grind odditys. Are you using the oddity system or classic xp system?

I was playing Arkham Knight but the Batmobile sections really irk me. That formula grew tired pretty quick. I hope Rocksteady can do something totally different with their next game.

Wasteland: Directors Cut is a much better game with all the new additions. It goes without saying that you should play it if you haven't.

Classic. This whole oddity business seemed silly to me. However, it's how the makers intended it to be played, so next run I'm going on normal difficulty and oddity levelling style. Too bad you can't change difficulty during your game, because I'm too invested to start over now. :(

Yeah I know what you mean, I started out with the classic but it got too grindy for my taste so I tried the oddity system. I like it much better and it doesn't feel as grinch, I've been leveling up pretty quick surprisingly.

Oh wow. I didn't even know there were KOTOR mods. Thanks for the tip!

So much regret! I wish I was at least at normal difficulty. Oh well, I've found some new areas where baddies were a lot tougher. And damn Carnifex (Arena boss) is one tough nut. I've tried beating him a bazillion times now, and it's seemingly impossible. I think I'm going to need some serious metal armor 'cause he just rips through my stealthy suit. In the first two turns I can stun him and get him to 1/3 health at most, but then he comes with the morphine, adrenaline and health hypos and just assrapes me bigtime.

That's on easy difficulty? Ah shit I'm on normal difficulty..Oh that's just perfect...
Do you happen to know why my assault rifle recently fully repaired has a less % chance to hit than my pistol? My AR has a 14 to 10 range and my pistol a 10 to 9 if I recall correctly. My guns skill is at 74 and my strength is at 7, what am I doing wrong?
What armor are you using? There's some really good leather armor if you can craft it or find it at a merchant, that heavy metal armor is going to reduce your movement points if you're okay with that.

Gun accuracy is based on perception, right? Some guns have strength requirements of course, but perception is the governing attribute for both crossbows and guns. You might also have just entered high level territory. Sometimes my chance to hit is embarrassing, even at optimal range. Also, the evade skill of the target is taken into account when calculating chance to hit.

Also, I don't know about leather armor. So far I'm sticking with a stealthy riot suit with some leather in it. Found it at a merchant. Decent damage resistance and thresholds (33 / 7 mech + 33 /6 cold if I remember correctly) while also giving me +25 to stealth.

Also, I dunno if we should be taking over this thread with our Underrail talk, but when I went to the Underrail thread, I had a hard time evading spoilers.

My perception is at 9 at the moment though...

Then I don't know what the problem could be. Maybe check out the Steam forums? Although, I have to say, even on easy difficulty I often have a <50% hit chance. Also, when crafting Tornado type crossbows I get -2% accuracy, even though I mount a scope on it. Creating the same crossbow without In shops I often encounter the same type of crossbow with stats like +15% accuracy. Maybe you need to find a gun with some sort of accuracy buff on it to get better results. Or the game is just that hard. Could be.
