General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

It's REALLY all just about length, not randomness. A long password is much harder to crack by algorithms than a complicated but shorter password, and yet the latter is more likely to get lost in memory of the user who thought it up, despite being the easier of the two for programs to crack.

There is a problem with using one or two passwords for everything.
Oh FUCK that! I never said use the same password for EVERYTHING!!! That's just BEGGING to lose your whole life just because ONE little article was compromised!!! No, I personally go through a rotation of roughly half a dozen passwords, and I juggle which ones were used more than others whenever I start a new account on some other service, until I decide it's time to add another password to the rotation. But they ALL follow the "long but not complicated" model. They're REALLY easy for me to remember, and me exclusively, because there's certain "qualities" of them that are unique to me, but that doesn't make them easy to crack using programs, because they're all about 22 characters or longer. The only exceptions, of course, are web sites and services that MANDATE a certain type of password be used, like "must contain 1 upper case letter, 1 symbol, and 1 number", or worse, "must be within 8-14 characters in length", the former of which just makes keeping track of your password that much harder, and the latter of which just makes compromising your security that much easier!

Luckily for me, the only times my passwords were ever compromised (and both times it was the system's fault, not my passwords), they were for shorter, MUCH older passwords I used ages ago, which I no longer have in my rotation. So none of my current passwords are compromised (as of yet). =)

...Luckily.

So I have been watching playthroughs of the game and...
There is a Gundam in the game with pretty small feet?
Is that even normal for the series? I thought that even with the crazy science and psychic powers it was kind of worried about keeping it at least internally plausible as all the other Metal Gears I have seen had big feet to move around and they didn't have full on Humanoid movement and form.

Oh didn't know if I mentioned this although I know I responded already to this.

Some of the earlier Metal Gears had small feet that were actually a design flaw you used to defeat them. The first Metal Gear being one I can think of off the top of my head. The armor was weaker near that area. Subsequent models did not have this design flaw.

The one in Phantom Pain is somewhat controlled with Psycho Mantis's power too so there is that. Which one are you speaking of exactly? I assume you mean Sahelanthropus. The Gears have never been overly realistic, but they appeal to me more than Gundam-esque anime.

This one is from Metal Gear Solid 1.

This one is from the old MSX Metal Gear which canonically takes place before Metal Gear Solid 1.

However you have this one that takes place before all of those game that looks like this. Note it can only be piloted by a child.

It should be said. Every single one of these weapons has went towards the development of each successive Gear platform, so parts of one are used for another. I see that the head of the one in Peace Walker appears to resemble Sahelanthropus.

The Metal Gear pre-cursor the Shagohod looked totally different, more akin to the AI weapons in Peace Walker.

So, I am still playing through all of the Metal Gear games. I beat Snake Eater again a few days ago then moved on to Peace Walker. Both are very good games that represent two sides of the Metal Gear series - one being more traditional, the other mission based.

All I need is a Metal Gear head piece to finish ZEKE then I can finish Peacewalker. There are a ton of boss fights, but they are all tanks, personal carriers, helicopters, and AI robots. I suppose Portable Ops is better in that regard (the bosses are more varied/interesting) aside from it's relatively sub-par story/gameplay. Beating the bosses gets you parts for Metal Gear or the vehicles themselves as is the case with tanks, so it becomes a bit of a grind, but the fights are fun as hell with a friend. Fighting Peacewalker might be one of my favorite Gear boss fights. The mission variety is actually better than Phantom Pain, although much, much more constrained.

I think the peak of the series was Snake Eater, but that is due to the decline in various aspects post Fukushima. The great thing is with a series like Metal Gear, a decline can still be on top of a mountain so to speak, as opposed to off in the ditch somewhere - like with Resident Evil or Fallout. The series stayed relatively true to it's roots throughout each title all the while implementing many new features along the way, some being tossed aside for unknown reasons - I think it is a mistake to remove the camouflage mechanic, I liked the survival aspect of Snake Eater, and Codecs are greatly missed, but for every thing taken away Kojima added something new, like the open world approach to Phantom Pain, or the army building mechanics in Portable Ops and Peacewalker. I got the sense that he tried to do something totally unique every time since he wasn't too keen on making the same games forever. The problem is he has a huge fucking ego, so he couldn't let others take over without him guiding the way.

One of the minor gripes I have with Kojima's Metal Gear games is the sloppy lore work - you have a flying AI controlled robot in Peacewalker with Metal Gear REX being relatively unsophisticated in comparison many years later. It seems he could have scaled back the outlandish tech slightly in the PSP prequel entries to ease these flaws - George Lucas and him are best buds no doubt. They did have stealth tech in the 60's in the Metal Gear timeline, so it's not a huge stretch to say they possessed some of the tech they did, but you have to go through some hoops to justify it narrative wise; a lot of the fancy tech in the series is rarely seen again, like the jetpack platforms in Snake Eater, Walker Gears in Phantom Pain - even the stealth camouflage should show up more than it does. I guess my point is if I was Kojima I would have covered a lot of the proliferation of these top secret weapons a little better. We see this stealth tech in every damn game with barely any mention of it. It leaves you wanting a bit more. Less talk about birds in Peace Walker, more talk about Metal Gear and cool tech stuff. Then he says fuck it and doesn't even explain wormhole tech in Phantom Pain. It leaves lore junkies like me looking like jackasses for following the shit so close.

It is refreshing though to see what would be a lesser portable entry in most mainline game series actually being handled with care as is the case with Peace Walker. It still has that Metal Gear feeling even though it is smaller without feeling too hollow.

Playing Peace Walker with Serge is amusing since he is about as stealthy as a elephant stomping through the jungle. I like punching him in the back of the head when he alerts guards. More over analyzing of Metal Gear coming in the future as I make my way through the whole collection.

Went trough the marine part of Alien vs predator 2010 and it was ok ish.. But whoever decided that recordings should stop whenever some shitty npc decides to scream "MOVE IT. GO TO THE NEXT PART OMG" etc should be fired. Listened to like 1/5 of all the tapes i picked up without getting almost instant interupted.

Besides that the game is average and the old ones are pretty much better in every way.. The sound was great for most parts besides that permanent "dripping"? sound you hear most of the time.

Back to GTA 5 now!.. If only i had more patients to get cash i would have a lot more fun i guess.

Been playing a game called Happy Wars for a bit. Pain in the ass to play since my internet sucks so I have a 1/4 chance of being kicked out of the lobby. It's mostly just zerg rushing the enemy and destroying their big tower and leveling up your weapons. Which takes forever mind you unless you use items you collect over the course of games and use them instead to level up your weapons.

After many years of avoiding MMORPGs which many friends and family enjoy, but I worry I'd become addicted to I gave in.

I've joined an online friend for FF XIV and having a lot of enjoyment so far.

I'm a level 40 White Mage. I've been playing about two hours a day for a month.

Also I now understand so many things about MMORPGs I've heard so much about like the fun (and frustration) of dungeon raids, having too many or too few players in a given region, and awkwardly ignoring the conversations of people in public places trying to role-play and forgetting to chat in private (not me).

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Jumped on The Age of Decadence, bought it on GoG today. Game runs fine on my C2D@2.2GHz + 2GB RAM + GTS250, looks great mechanics-wise, with very Fallout-y character stats. Will report more after two or three playthroughs.

Diablo 3. Yeah, I'm currently going through a masochistic phase....

I don't know which one I played, but it was all very weird, a very hyperactive neighbor of mine saw I was playing Fallout (classic, this was before FO3) and got super-eager, something that really surprised me, he ran to his room, came back, and insisted that if I liked Fallout, I would LOVE Diablo.
I had my doubts, but he seemed very confident.

We switch-borrowed each others games (I lent him FO2 to be specific), and both of us lasted only minutes before giving up.
On my end, I was being drowned by enemies, enemies, enemies, enemies, from above, below, and every direction, chopchopchoppetichoppatochipotle
On his end, he managed to arrive to Klamath by fast-clicking through all dialog, and had just met the dog there, fast-clicked the dialogue (as in, he grrr-ed at the dog... ) and was now puzzled at why all of Klamath was attacking him.

We switched back

Edit: Now continuing Mad Max, this game didn't grab me like I hoped, but it's okay. A bit repetitive, as in, extremely repetitive, but whatever. My biggest gripe for now is the camera. I'm fighting my ass off, and the camera's all "seems like you got this covered, I'm gonna hang back here now!"

Edit 2: Holy crapoly, the auto-aim is beginning to eat my bones... I would normally not mind, except it keeps auto-aiming for allready dead bodies, sometimes repeatedly prioritizing them -.-

Dammit, Life is Strange Pulled a Teltale.... I'll never trust modern Point and clicks that claim to have effects for your choices....

Altho in general the game was much better than any of Teltale "games" by virtue of it actually having puzzles.

Until Dawn is the best "Telltale" style game to come out by far. It changed the game by being so good at what it tried to do.

Happy Wars is a pain in the ass. Half the time I get dropped from a lobby, somebody else gets dropped, the kicks me out due to connection issues, kicks everybody else out due to connection issues, or freezes everything in place thus allowing you to win the game by yourself. And one of them is guaranteed to happen in every game. And of course the game saves none of your progress if it kicks you out unlike other multiplayer games so everything I do is undone if it happens.

And I know it's not my connection because this crap never happens to my other games and it's happening to people on Reddit too.

Playing Warhammer: Vermintide atm. It's pretty fun, with some bugs here & there. Probably not a long term game for me unless they add a lot more enemy types & missions, but for now it's pretty neat.

Getting this game today as a friend wanted to play it. Looks fun enough with friends but i do feel dissapointed with the lack of customization or just male/female options on the characters.

I so wanted to make the witch hunter into the inqusitor from dawn of war 2 :P

Also been doing my Metro run.. AKA buying both last light versions and trying to get 100% achievement on the 3 games. Normal last light is painfull as the last 4 is boring or really long. Still got 1 left from last light redux and it sucks as much as in the original game :/

I'm right near the end of this game right now. I think it nailed what it was going for - Choose Your Own Adventure Survival Horror TV Show. I wouldn't say it is scary in the least bit but it does make you care whether or not the characters die which is pretty rare in a game imo. The graphics and voice acting are some of the best I have ever seen. I really can't stress enough how much I enjoyed it, but I can't recommend a buy on such a short game. Rental or discount price (preferably under 40$) .

I have never liked G1 transformers (more like the only TF thing I like is the Beast Wars cartoon) but Transformers Devastation is awesome. Platinum never dissapoints.

Pretty sure if you are a fan of G1 TF you will love it even more as all the aesthetic looks very much straight out of the show. The game also keeps a steady 60FPS.

Been playin' FTL Advanced Edition as usualy, and suddenly I realized that there's a short pattern of music here, taken directly from F2 Arroyo theme - descending tribal drums followed by distinct human vocal: „HUA”! Call me paranoid guise, but I would have sworn that this music was not there in the first release. And since MCA was working on the advanced edition one, I'd like to ask whether he's responsible for this or not. If so, well done Chris!

Doing a new playthrough in New Vegas and gonna check out Wasteland 2. Was laying around in my Steam lib, didn't get around to really get into it.
