General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Yeah, not really Gonzales finest work. Just to demonstrate just how old school I am: My first game written by Gonzalez wasn't NV, but a ps2 game called Alter Echo that I begged my parents for cause the box art looked cool:

I was about 7 when I played it.

Yeah, art for games looked so cool back then. They had soul and strong emotions behind them. Even edutainment games had their flair and style. Not my pic but this was one of the earliest games I remember playing on PC:

My family didn't have a pc when I was growing up. They had an old 90's desktop, but sold it when I was about 3. We got a laptop when I was 15, but I only ever played a pinball game on it a few times. No tv channels either. I don't regret it to be honest. Vhs and consoles were enough.

Anyone played Horizon Zero Dawn? In my opinion it plays like a subpar Bethesda title. Super disappointing.
It's the game I wanted a PS4 for because lulz dino robots look pretty cool man. I bought it on sale eventually, played it, it was mediocre and just okay, definitely not what I wanted. But turns out the PS4 is actually called the Bloodborne Machine.

This past console generation sucked outside of Nintendo. PS360 was waaay better. I used to think I was just getting old, but I have liked the Switch a lot.

Tarkov just wiped.

So, it's time to finally really sink my teeth in without any other multiplayer distractions. Plenty still single player, but I'm not going to be leading a Roguetech faction this time around.

Finished Dragon Quest 11 with 112 hours and it's pretty great overall. Still need to stew on it for a little bit, but my impressions with the game overall are very positive.

Thinking of trying Dragon Quest 6 since clips from it show up in the credits of 11. I'm just a sucker for late SNES RPG artstyle and i have been reading good things about it. Not sure if i'm gonna emulate the original version with a fan translation, or emulate the DS version (or even just buy a copy, if it hasn't gone up to a ridiculous price like a lot of DS games in recent times).

I'm now looking forward to the HD 2D remake of Dragon Quest 3 as well.

Did you beat both the Regular story and the "Post game"? Because the game makes it look like the Act 3 of the story is actually just post game optional stuff.

Beat everything except the Secret Trial of Wheel of Harma and the bonus dungeon in Tickington. I find it odd that a lot of people call Act 3 postgame when it's really not.

Just learned that the first three Dragon Quest games got a remake for the SNES. Yes, 3 already has a remake.

Now i'm thinking of also trying the first two games through the SNES remakes. Probably gonna leave trying 3 for the HD 2D remake coming up.

Guess i'm going on a Dragon Quest binge, bitches (most likely will play something in between to not burn out from these games).

Hey *Trails evangelist mode on* If you are in a JRPG kick, you might wanna try the Trails games. THey have really good world building, interesting turn based combat and all NPCs have unique dialogue for every point in the story.

Flea market at level 20. I’m not playing this game til it gets less bullshit involved. It wants you to dedicate your free time to playing this game. I’m good. I’m not a one track mind every waking moment. They make it less normal person friendly and still wipe? Eh.

I’ll be waiting for the big updates that bring more than raids at this point. Designing the game for streamers and no lifers is a mistake.

Honestly I'm fine with it, but I know where you're coming from. I'd say the best bet is to just wait at this point and see where it goes, and if they keep to the idea that there will be two modes in the future. One that gets wiped and another that's permanent.

I personally like it though to just hold off seemingly everyone running nothing but endgame meta loadouts or naked with hatchets. There's some quest stuff changed around as well this time around, I actually unlocked Jaegar in my very first raid this wipe and he sells OP-SKS, the one that can mount sights by default. Maybe I'm biased because that's a gun I like using even late into wipes. Late wipes in general though feel a bit stagnant.

I think having the flea market unlock at level 20 is fine, but they maybe need to make the first trader upgrades a bit easier to reach in exchange.

They need to find a formula that works without wiping. I have probably around 400-500 hours in this game. 200-300 of those were in last wipe, I got up to level 35 if not further. And then I just stopped playing because... well I wanted to play other games and I know it's all gone anyway.

I have Edge of Darkness so I'll have whatever DLC they come out with too. But I'm holding off for a few wipes until I hear better updates coming.

I mean, fair enough. I'm only sitting around 200 hours in total, so maybe I'm just not at a point where I'm fed up with bullshit yet.

Gonna check it out at a later time. Really leaning on playing Dragon Quest 6 (thinking of going for the SNES version), and already got Dragon Quest 1 and 2 for the SNES ready to go with a translation patch.

I just finished a 100% clear of Blaster Master Zero 2 and got the true ending. Gonna play through the DLC characters and modes of zero and zero 2 and get all the achievements. Blaster Master Zero 3 is definitely a day one buy for me!

Started playing Dragon Quest 6 on the SNES with a fan translation and i'm around 10 hours into it. Compared to Dragon Quest 11 it's far more unforgiving. The first major story boss has you going through a big, confusing dungeon with lava that damages you (and you have to walk on it to go through certain stairs), with enemies that can deal high damage, and at the end of the dungeon you have to fight that story boss twice in a row with no healing in between of any kind.

By the way, when you are in last portion of that dungeon, you can't even leave to heal yourself at an inn and save. I got fucked by my only character that can revive party members getting killed by a insta-kill spell. I pretty much just did a death warp by letting myself get killed by monsters, so that you could heal and save.

Defeating that story boss unlocks the job system and that has helped toned down the difficulty. But some story bosses can still be ridiculous in terms of damage output.

Read recently that apparently people complained that Dragon Quest 4 and 5 were too easy, and the creator of the series decided to crank it up in the sixth game by upping the encounter rate and beefing enemies. Which makes the overall lower difficulty in the DS remake of the sixth game kind of ironic.
