General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Small Framed said:
Mass Effect, but quickly getting bored with it. I just installed Betrayal At Krondor and using DOSBox to play, but it seems kinda slow (I mean the game speed, its like my machine is underpowered). Would any of you folks know of a way to fix this? TIA

Play as an adept, engineer, or sentinel.

Vanguard and Soldier both make the game retardedly easy, and the infiltrator just isn't good.

arrr bioshock. it took me in - and then didnt let me do what i wanted to do, e.g. exploring that world. what a shame.

on another note: there seem to be quite a few games in development which will meet my gaming needs. opflash 2... yay... drakensang... w0000t... and dead space looks good, too. seems to be some mixture of doom and system shock. do want! perhaps, for my turn-based needs, kings bounty. uh... and clear sky. i might even want to try some age of conan. played enough of the good old games, so i am ready for some (possibly) shitty new ones. WHO SAID FALLOUT 3 THERE??

and great thread. keep em coming!

Blacksite...Tried both demos, enjoyed them, thought the reviews were exagerrated, bought it for ten bucks...How stupid of me. Seriously, this game is a huge piece of crap, avoid it at all costs, it isn't even worth downloading. Hell, even a blank dvd is more entertaining. Don't even get me started on the bugs...

MrBumble, do you mean Area 51: Blacksite?

Wow, I won't say the earlier game was a work of genius but apparently it was miles better than this.

Yeah, Blacksite Area 51...

I actually own a PC copy of the previous episode and even if it indeed wasn't a memorable FPS, it played nicely and was rather enjoyable. I thought it would be the same with this one. It is not. There are countless bugs, level design varies immensly between nice and terrible, especially while indoors, same for the graphics ( while some areas look very nice, others look terrible and unfinished ), the plot is really laughable and the gameplay is far from being as nervous as in the previous episode. The only times this game shines a little bit is when it is heavily scripted ( i.e : when these huge Xenon monsters crash into buildings from the sky, it's somewhat spectacular...oh and the helicopter ride was nice too...and that's about it ). Nah, seriously, it really is a pile of shit...

If you're talking about the one with Marilyn Manson then yes, I totally agree. I thought it was a rather underappreciated, solid shooter. I can't think of any other game that allowed you to fire all four barrels of dual shotguns at the same time and send enemies flying. That was worth playing the game in itself.

On the topic, just started playing STALKER. I'm loving the atmosphere. Can't say I'm enjoying the gun play so far. The weapons lack punch. Hopefully I'll find something better.

Yep, trying it right now with an engineer and I notched up the combat difficulty to hardcore. Fights are more challenging now especially against multiple enemies (they rush you now instead of just camping waiting for you to snipe their heads off).

Just finished Snatcher (great game).
So its back to:

Contra 4
Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Galactic Civilizations 2
Civilization 4 + Expansions

And as soon as I have the hardware

NWN2 Mask of the Betrayer
Bioshock
STALKER

Games in the future

Possibly C&C3 + Kane's Wrath
Possibly Red Alert 3
Starcraft 2
Metal Gear Solid 4

I was about to finish Bioshock just to realize that I deleted all the savegames by reinstalling Windows XP. I absolutely HATE games that put savegames into the "Documents and Settings" Folder.
And I am not in the mood to play the whole game again.

Just bought DMC4. Besides being the highest quality Console to PC port I've ever played (Capcom must have learned a lesson from the RE4 fiasco), it runs like a dream and is DAMN fun.

The downside you ask?

Motherfucking xbox buttons on the menu. That irks the shit out of me, because it smacks entirely of laziness... especially when the rest of the game is soo polished.

*edit*

Here is a pic of the fourth scene in the performance test with everything besides AA maxed.

I'm absolutely stunned at how well the engine performs with that much action going on.

That wouldnt be the old Sega CD Snatcher would it? That game was awesome.

Yes it was, and yes you are right.

Really awesome game, but now I want to own it and it keeps elluding me on Ebay.
Grrrr!

Okami on the Wii.
Captivating, gorgeous and charming.
Proof that good graphics doesn't necessarily mean high-tech.

If you like the 3D Zelda games (Ocarina of Time, Windwaker and Twilight Princess), you'll love Okami.

Can't recommend this highly enough.

Would post some screenshots, but I can't find any non-shakeycam ones of the Wii version anywhere

Downloaded and played a bit of the demo. It does indeed look gorgeous. I never played any of the previous DMCs so I was a bit iffy on the gameplay to start, but it's fun once you get the hang of it.

Maybe I should pick it up...

Good thing for me I use an Xbox controller with my PC, so this won't be an issue for me.

Fun Fact:
The Wii version of Okami was announced two weeks after I finished the PS2 version.

Goddamn, I wish I had that one.
An analog stick doesn't really do the brush techniques justice.

Call of Duty 4.

I just beat it yesterday, and it was epic. I'm going to go through the campaign on epic mode soon.

EDIT: Woops, I meant arcade mode, not epic mode.

I played okami at ps2 too and i must say it felt really refreshing game for some reason,,, might be because i havent really played any zelda games since ages. Only problem that i had was the ridicilously easy difficulty... i didnt die even once and the game was 70 h long(though i collected everything) But one of the best games in along time alongside shadow of the colossus

Now playing ninja gaiden sigma,,,, got it for 10 e and i have enjoyed it so far even though sometimes i feel like camera angles are my greatest nemesis in that game.

Crysis, not bad gameplay but I would of prefered to work along side the rest of the team rather than solo it. But boy does the nano suit suck, it seriously needs new batteries.
