General Gaming Megathread: What are you playing?

Late to the party but enjoying COD4, although getting my ass kicked continually in the Prypiat mission while waiting for the rescue chopper.

Finished Crysis last week, fun but short.

Also finished Portal, another fun, but short game.

Oh and Freelancer for when I'm 'space sim' mood.

doom 3 and quake 3. you should, too. both are simply excellent in their field. quake 3 is THE online shooter for fast-paced action if you count out quakeworld (q1) and half-life deathmatch, tho there are still servers online where you can play quakeworld - probably some mad russians. after some strafejumping in q3 counterstrike feels very oblivion-ish, when it comes to simple speed. i have played it for years (on/off), and decided to reinstall after some valued member of this honorable baord convinced me from not getting quake 4.

doom 3 excels on so many levels - the graphics are still very watchable, athmosphere is frightening enough to put condemned to shame (which imho is one of the creepiest survival horrors evar), and the action is just how i like it. you run around, point your mouse at things and click, til they are dead. nothing fancy, no artsy-fartsy hero angstily obsessed with humanity, just pure pew-pew. its oresume.

Jets n guns gold

Thanks for the dude who pointed this out some time ago in giveaway of the day. Good sidescroller shooter with asskicking soundtrack.

I should totally do an "alec plays Arcanum for the fiftieth time" thread soon. Real soon.

Do it

I made another feeble attempt at starting the SoU campaign for NwN and failed. I then made a less feeble attempt at playing through Prince of Persia II and failed at the point when you are dumped in a maze with 143 pressure plates and have to guess in which order they need to be stepped on (and one false move means having to start over). So I guess I haven't really been playing anything for a month now besides new flash games and a little MtG.

Still fiddling around with Arcanum - beat it with the unofficial patch with a magic/melee character, now using a tech/guns character that I cheated to have teleportation.

I got Mass Effect(PC) about 2 weeks ago - It's fun but the dialogue annoys the hell out of me. If I felt like being treated like a 2-year old while choosing dialogue options, I would've played Oblivion. Also, the abilities are extremely over-powered. 80% immunity? You can walk out in front of half-a-dozen enemies with immunity and slaughter them before it runs out.
At least a few of the choices you make alter what you are capable to do later. For the most part, however, you only have 1 option for completing a mission(Shoot everything).

stalker, again. it sucks because its great. ill explain: when i played it first some time ago, i didnt bother patching at all and had only some minor glitches. now, i patched it till kingdom come, and 2nd mission sidorovich closed his door. i will try to bump against it until it opens... hopefully its not a script bug that extends to the npc too. forums say its not, just a fuckup of the door script, so i might continue the game. how can you publish 5 fucking patches without fixing such a major problem? otherwise, one of the greatest games ever.

is there a simple and small mod for version 1.03 or 1.04 that just opens the door? preferably the other one in... red valley? too)? i think ill downgrade, forums indicate that 1.05 likes random crashes (which only occured once in all my stalker game time, and that possibly because of some other program)

F.E.A.R.: 2º play through. Really creepy. It deserves its name. I must admit, the first time I finished this game, it was about 3:00 pm and I wasn't able to sleep that day. The game is a little repetitive, even for a shooter, mostly for the fact that almost all the enemies are the same, since they are clones. But, IMO, it has a interesting plot and a very good ending that leads to an expansion: F.E.A.R. Extraction Point, which I'm looking forward to play. Has anyone already played it? Is it worthwhile?

3 Sisters: Text based game, filled with a bunch of nice hentai pictures. I'm really enjoying this game! :D

Silent Storm: Good plot. Very good turn-based combat system, obviously influenced by Fallout. A very good game, overall. It has a few flaws, though, like the characters not being able to substantially improve some skills like Engineering and Medicine, making the classes Enginneer and Medic basically weak soldiers. A very interesting point is that you can destroy almost anything (anything, perhaps) in the scenery, like a house's wall, in order to hit your target.

Dwarf Fortress: I have been playing this for a few months already. So good that it does without graphics. Or "it does with its ASCII 'graphics'". In this strategy game you manage a dwarven fortress (duh!). You begin choosing your fortress' location, then your initial dwarves' skills and equipments. All dwarves have their own personalities, likings, and strange habits. This is one of the best games I have ever came across. If you do not know it, take a look.

I thought Fear was boring, the environments dull and repetitive and the weapons really horrible. The only weapons I could bear to use were the fantasy guns and the shotgun, the pistols, rifle and smgs just didn't feel right. The scary bits were signposted before you got to one, which kind of took away the fear factor, Half Life 2 Ep 2 made me jump more. The ghost apparitions were annoying as hell, the concept of the boosters left lying around still baffles me etc etc. Basically I found Fear mostly a chore to play with a few good bits scattered through it that made it worthwhile to continue to the end. Fear extraction point didn't have any of those good bits, at least not any that I could find. Basically it was all the boring bits of Fear with no redeemable feature what so ever. Avoid it like the plague. Wait for Project Origin to come out, that will be the proper follow on to Fear's ending.

Silent Storm get the Skill Watchdog hack, that'll make your skills level properly and increase the engineering and medicine at a better rate.

Yeah, FEAR is very repetitive, even boring sometimes. But I liked the weapons. The AI is good, just a little predictable, after you get used to it. But, man, its end (2 last parts) REALLY compensates the bad aspects. I thought it was really good. I can't forget the first sight I gave to that sphere where Alma's body was locked or the scene when the same sphere was being chilled. Soo cool.

The scary bits were signposted before you got to one
Yeah, sometimes, but that didn't make them any less scary for me.

The ghost apparitions were annoying as hell
I like that japanese horror style.

Also, thank you for the Silent Storm hack. This skill thing was frustrating me, since my main character is an Engineer.

I used this with version 1.04 (Atleast I think it was), I hope it helps.

Currently playing CoD 4, trying to get through the game on Veteran. Pripyat is... harrrd.. :)

i just used the ingame physics to clutter the door with boxes. there are a bunch of them right next to the door, just jump on them until they begin tumbling all around. a dropped gun there might do the trick, too. the door does not close properly, but it sure tries to do so. after a few ingame hours, it reverts to normal functionality... which it does not if closed.

vampire:bloodlines (about 3/4 through). i really want to run through another Arcanum game myself. *sigh* what is it with me that i'm more interested in re-playing games made by fallout associates than playing anything else? i actually stopped mid-way through MOTB to re-play fo1, fo2, vampire, and now i'm thinking of arcanum?

somebody posted the music from arcanum in the Order's youtube thread and it gave me goosebumps. ffs.

On my PS3:

Final Fantasy XII - Not as good as FFX (IMO) but I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

Metal Gear Solid 4 - I've been a MGS fan since the PS1 game came out, and I'm excited to see how it all ends.

Killzone - Great PS2 shooter that I missed when it came out.

On my PC:

IL2 1946 - I've been a flight sim junkie all my life, and this one is the best.

Fallout 1 & 2 - Still play these.

Morrowind - One of my favourite RPG's on the PC.

Civilization 4 - Sid Meier is a god. Simple as that.

Just playing some older games on my laptop these days.
Been traveling some and it's nice to have my bro drive me so I can geek out on the road.
Sims 2.
Starcraft.
And Warcraft 3.
That's all thus far.
I'm gonna put Fallout on here but it gives me cramps dragging and dropping after a while. I don't have a two button mouse so have to stick with the touch pad on this thing.

Age of Conan : I'm having a great time with it regardless of what some may think. Its a pretty good mmo and has lots of potential.

Punisher: Played a little Punisher for the XBOX. Pretty fun little action game.I really like the special kills; like when you put the guys face in the phirana tank and they pick it clean.

Super Mario World for about a hour then I got bored.

Currently S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Oblivion lost mod mostly, on and off Diablo 2: LoD, C&C Generals ZH: Shockwave mod & Jagged Alliance 2 v1.13.

...snip...Jagged Alliance 2 v1.13.

Jagged Alliance 2 was bugged for me I remember - I could never get past the first (or maybe second) map.

How is that version running?

If it is good, I'll get the game again for sure - loved J A 1 :)
