Guns, guns, guns

not bad. didn't know you could do that, but i don't have any rifle that takes STANAG mags either.

i usually unload mags by pulling the trigger though. mags stay loaded otherwise.

I used a quarter for that, I think it's the perfect "unloader tool".

Yeah, that's right.

A half rifle. I can't even shoot it, yet. I must wait about 3 more months for the upper part.

:(

3 months? that's harsh...

I feel your pain.

I was supposed to have my Sig 551 SB in jan 2010, then it was febr and now i'm looking at march 2010. arg!

I wish I had a handgun. Something with a big bore on it and a concealable size. I would shoot people in the face with it. people I do not know and have not known ever.

Can anyone get me a gun like that? I would guess something like a .45 semi-auto, lots of synthetics to the thing to keep it light and compact.

thanks.

I went to a gun shop, they said "you can't order a lower receiver, because you must wait about 6 months then".

I came to home, and ordered a lower receiver. 2 hours later I got the UPS shipping code. 2 days later the lower arrived to my FFL dealer.

:D

But the upper... :( I ordered a 20" chrome lined 5.56 NATO upper. I got an e-mail on the next day. ("The upper is out of stock, the waiting period is about 12 weeks.")

I must wait about 3 months.

The handgun is even worse. I wanted one, but in this state, the people must do a gun-class, what is $150 (8-12 hours), and they must get a purchase permit for $105. No way I do this and pay this much money.

Maybe I just buy another rifle later (probably an AK74) with 1000 rounds of ammo.

how about you shoot yourself instead?

that's not actually a lot of money in my eyes, but still, too bad. are the classes purely theoretical or actual shooting?

$255 is not that much money, but in VA you must pay $5.

The class? A guy talking about the gun safety for 8-11 hours. Then the people go to the shooting range with 2 magazines and shoot. But it is like 3 minutes / person.

Is that for concealed carry permit or just a weapon permit?

Yeah paying money for anything sucks, but it's well worth it.

For my concealed carry permit I ended up paying 120 dollars(60 dollar class and 60 dollar FBI background check)

ON TOP OF a 550 dollar handgun(Xtreem Dootay tacticool, HS2000 in .40 s&w with a five inch barrel)

I also recklessly spent 30 dollars on a serpa holster, 50 plus god awful shipping on a damn shoulder harness for the holster. Now I use a 10 dollar in the belt holster.

Actually fits very nicely in my pants now. ^,,^

Really the only thing I regret buying now is the shoulder holster. Definately not worth what I paid for it.

The CC class I took was only 3 hours. Honestly I can't imagine why it would take 8 hours to do gun safety. Probably some ass retarded lawmaker imposed time. Live with it is all I can say. Bury the city in complaints afterward. Well written, well thought out.

You know, that's better to pay $5 than $255.

60 for a background check? I thought that is free. I paid nothing for that.

You are right about the class, I have no idea what takes 8 to 12 hours.

The safety class is for CCW permit. I think they give a paper, the person must walk to the closest police station and they give the handgun purchase permit. The permit is good for only 10 days and it costs $105.

My state's firearm laws are just bad. :(

Like so many of my generation, I ran out and bought a Galco Miami Classic shoulder holster for my 1911. Wore it twice. Then I remembered I live in Florida and don't wear jackets. It was also kind of a pain to draw from. It lives in my closet gathering dust.

I have accumulated holsters like some old women accumulate margarine tubs. Of everything I've tried, I come back again and again to the Summer Special style of IWB holster. These days, I mostly use a Kydex variant made by Bladetech.

If you ever unexpectedly have a couple of bucks left over, buy yourself a dedicated concealment belt. They are pretty much the same as normal belts, but thicker and have stiffeners in between. They also have a curved, anatomical cut. Much more comfort, support, and retention. I've got a couple of Galcos that I like a lot. They run about $80, which seems a bit pricey until you own one and realize just how awesome they are.

Nothing is free. That was the money I sent to the FBI for the check. That's probably part of the class cost you had. I would care to bet they sent all the paperwork in for you.

Ass retarded laws speckled all over the place. Ether done by people who don't think or engineered to make people jump though hoops to the point where it's just easier to get caught with an illegally purchased weapon.

It's not like anyone investigates you if you are rejected for any reason.

Despite 536,000 prohibited buyers caught by the National Instant Background Check, only 6,700 people (1.25%) have been charged for these firearms violations. This includes 71% of the violations coming from convicted or indicted felons. 337 None of these crimes were prosecuted by the Federal government in 1996, 1997, or 1998.

ten years old, but I doubt it's gotten any better, especially since gun purchases are increasing.

No, I bought a rifle. I don't need to take the safety class to buy a rifle. That is only for handguns.

I bought the lower online. They sent it to the FFL dealer. I drove to his house, filled a 1 page form and I gave him 20 buck for the transfer and another 20 for the sales tax.

Maybe your state laws are different and they ask money for the NICS there.

That's right, these gun laws are stupid. People in Montana can buy firearms easily. The people in California and NY have hard times with gun purchases. But no one can say California or NY is a safe place and Montana is a dangerous state. It's a proof the gun bans are not working.

Background check costs vary by the state. NICS can only be run by law enforcement. In Florida, all NICS requests are run through Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) once you've filled out the 4473. The FDLE check costs $5.

If you bought a lower through an FFL, you probably had an NICS check done. He may have absorbed the cost through the transfer fee. $20 is a pretty low transfer fee in general, so you did pretty well.

hehehe... send it to me, i'll even buy a 1911 to go with it.

in Belgium, the background check shit is free, but you pay 90.25 euros for your request for a permit. note that 90.25 covers one procedure, regardless of you requesting one permit or twenty.

(though not all guns require permits, some require a sportshooting license or hunting license, which is nearly free by comparison)

I found NICS cost infos:

$7.50 in Utah

$25 California

$2 Virginia

Maybe you are right. I found this:

$3 NICS Michigan

Almost free. 8-)

Wait, I thought we were talking about a CCW. The background check is different for that. The check for individual weapons is 7.50(in utah), but for the ccw its 60.

PS montana also has far fewer people and a different culture. Apples and oranges. Still, repeatedly, major law enforcement agencies around the world have stated that there is no effect on crime. The only real deterrent is enforcement.

Source gunfacts.info, further sources within.

PS montana also has far fewer people and a different culture.

The rates has nothing to do with the population. I mean if 100 people living somewhere and 1 person is criminal, or 1,000,000 people living somewhere and 10,000 are criminals, the rates are the same. 1% of them are criminals. :)

I change my my question. Montana has pro-gun laws, Michigan, not really. So which place is more dangerous, Montana or Detroit? I go to Detroit sometimes and I'm sure Montana looks better.

detroit4.jpg

for the ccw its 60

It's at least 150 here. :(

Anyway, I'm still waiting for my upper. I ordered it 5 weeks ago. :(

My new AR-15 upper receiver. 8-)
