Half-Life Fan Movie: Escape from City 17

That...was...fucking AWESOME!

Great work all around in every way I can think. It must have taken a lot of people a long time to put that together and with such quality. I'm sure they'll get crazy hits and hence (internet) fame for it. They deserve it.

I gotta wonder though. In that opening with the gunships over the ruined cityscape...was that game graphics scaled up to look real or were that real footage altered to add CGI animation?

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

As much as i hate fan movies and movies based on video games i must say that this one is pretty good!
But those headcrabs look REALLY cheesy!!!!

Yeaaaahhh I don't know... If that was my film, I'd be pretty darn proud

Yeah they can be proud of that film they made.

The rest of the film is good and I love the gun fight scene, I just think the headcrab zombie could be better though.

Those headcrab look like the cuddly plushie that can be bought hehe :D I won't mind those hump my face and take over me

could've benefitted from someone with actual firearms experience though.
Half the resistance are civilians with no firearms experience. It fits.
hey, furfag, stop jacking off to your sister's bunny rabbit and try reading the posts next time before heading off to post an uninformed reaction...

what you wrote was totally besides the point and already covered.

A live action film remake makes sense, considering how hard Half-Life 2 tried to be a film rather than a game.

Although Half-Life was already heading in that direction from the get-go HL2 took it to a new level. When it wasn't acting as a tech demo for its physics engine, that is.

You could say the same thing about almost any other linear game that has an emphasis on story. At least they avoid cutscenes, but I have to admit scripted scenes are very similar to cutscenes, except for the fact that you can run around and control your character.

Is there anybody here who doesnt like Half Life or the direction its taken in the second instalment and the episodes?

I think its one of the few game franchises that has managed to expand beyond the original storyline without screwing itself up. At least not yet.

i have a very strong preference for HL1, and i think HL2 is overhyped.

it's a good game, but i just like HL1+Op:For much better than HL2+episodes.

I hate how they have apparently made HL:OPFOR non cannon. There is nothing inherintly wrong with it, or that goes against the cannonicity of the originals.

I liked it just as much as I liked HL. I would love to see Adrian Shepard make a return.

I'm not a fan of episodic content, as I'd rather pay for a full length game rather than wait 12 months for 3 more hours of gameplay.

As for the content, the only thing that really seemed out of place was the "Aperature Science" bit in Ep. 2... seemed kind of forced, due to Portal.

EDIT: Here's a bit on how they did it.

They managed to make that video on $500 CAD!! Amazing!

Wow and I thought I would have been always alone ... now I know how it feels not to be ... unique anymore !

Half Life 2 is funny but doesnt even come close to HL1 in both gameplay and content.

You know what I would love to see eventualy one time. Shepart fighting against the combine with US military BEFORE Hl2 happend, the prequel thing of some sort. A game in the midle after HL1 and before HL2. There was a short war between the combine (or whati s behind them) and some of the forces on the eart.

Hmm, expand please.

I always thought you were really into anything half-life, based on the fact that you are the real-life Gordon Freeman and they based the character entirely on you.

i didn't get the girl! what use is it to be a superstar worldsaver if you can't abuse your status?!? when they hired me, they promised me explicit sex scenes! and i didn't get to keep my FEV...

but no, seriously, it's difficult for me to identify why exactly i prefer HL1+Op:For over HL2+eps. i think it's a lot of little things.
while HL1 is a lot more straight forward and basic, i think the atmosphere was better. HL2 seems a lot more forced and a lot of parts of the game seem to be either of the "ooooh, look at what we can do with our physics engine" or the "let's waste some time doing special sequences"-variety.

I prefer HL1 to HL2 as well. There is just some undefined character that the second one misses.

Also, the shotgun in hl1 > the shotgun in hl2.

I think it has something to do with the general weapon design of HL2 and HL1. HL1 offered you a much wider range of weapons with different use, like the machinepistol that had a much wider range in use compared to the ridiculous one in HL2. All you had as some kind of assault rifle was the puls rifle that could fire some energy grandes but you constantly had never enough ammunitoin for the gun and had to switch to the MP which had extremly poor accuray, I foud the hand gun had here even a better one.
