Halo: Reach

I'm hoping I can pick it up at some random convenience store like Wal-Mart or Target. I am expecting GameStop to be sold out or severely depleted of it's Halo: Reach supply.

All depends on what edition you're going for. If I was content with the standard, I'd have it right now. But I figure, if I'm gonna buy samey-shooter game, might as well get the bonus crap. Then if I hate it I can make some bank on Ebay.

Well I have given the campaign a try on normal and finished it this evening.

I could write some long detailed review but I will keep it short for now,

In general it looks very nice and the gameplay is what you expect from Halo.
Those who played the previous games will quickly pick it up again.

But Single Player wise I found the game pretty disappointing, around the same level of quality of Halo ODST.
When it comes to it this game feels like a glorified expansion pack.
[spoiler:b7230aba9d]When they showed us the opening to Halo 1 at the end I had hoped they had thrown in Halo 1 to make up for the disappointing conclusion[/spoiler:b7230aba9d].

When I first played the game I was considering that it was at least worth an 8, but now I am stuck between a 6 and a 7.

To be honest, this game is pretty much fan wank for Halo fans, its not at all much open to new gamers such as FPS who want to give Halo a try.

Try to find the first game, I think it should be cheap and it is pretty much self contained.

True, Bungie's really lost that knack for long and epic single-player campaigns. But, hey I wasn't expecting System Shock 2 when it came to the Campaign. Ultimately, the multiplayer is what decides Halo's success.

Then get it for that because the SP campaign is really disappointing.
I heard they dropped the ball on the really big epic battles due to framerate issues. Did you notice those?

And yeah, the Beta was pretty fun, so I can see myself getting this and not regretting it like I did a certain game that Bethesda made in 2008...

Maybe now that Forge is actually usable without requiring you to be an autist with OCD, I can make my Cruise Boat map I dreamt of making in Halo 3.

Hello OakTable,

Well there were some big battles but nothing really that stands out amongst the other Halo so far I can recall.

Its basically from one skirmish to another.

There is this neat level opening in which we see dozens of tanks and warthogs moving but it isn't really some opening drive battle.

Ahhh, I was hoping for a really big battle like that one those ads for Halo 3 had (the ones with the big diorama of the Battle of New Mombasa), but I figured they'd probably skimp out on the story.

Was the space battle decent?

Actually it was, I could see this being turned into a game of its own.

Only frustrations were the fact that you do not have a radar and that your have to switch between guns and missiles, rather than both having their own buttons.

im not a consoletard

and halo 1 was worse than the starship troopers FPS

and halo 2 was horrid

lol Pc elitists.

Anyway, I've played a round of multiplayer. Probably not gonna vote for snipers again, though I did end up racking some kills with the hologram. That thing is nice.

I used to be a Halo fan when it came to the third game and it's multiplayer, though I think it was more or less the hype train that I hopped up on. The game was decent for multi though quite lacking in that area unlike such FPS's like my favorite Unreal Tournament '99 or even games like counterstrike. I also got way too fed up on the game's community. There are only so many high school douchebags you can take before you really start to lose faith in a game. To this day I don't see the appeal of games like this and Call of Duty. The only game recently that I enjoyed multiplayer wise was Left 4 Dead 2 and even then it quickly lost it's charm. I might give Reach a rent or a borrow just to plod through it's campaign though I'm not setting my sights and standards too high.

I on the other hand have always hated Halo. Never was ably to play any of them for longer than 15 minutes(tried all, except ODST) So I'm actually really enjoying this one.

I loved all Halos, except ODST but I loved Firefight too. Staying up till 4am to get that Endure (or something) Firefight achievement with 4 friends was a great time. If I still had my 360, I'd be all over Reach.

I'm actually considering buying one again for this but I'm a bit disappointed by the reports of campaign being uh... disappointing.

When it comes to FPS multiplayer on consoles though, I can't play anything else. It's not that keyboard/mouse is easier for me, it's that anything else feels like I got forks for arms, unless it's perfectly crafted to be played with forks, instead of arms, like Halo is.

Honestly, don't get it for the SP campaign.

A lot of fans will claim otherwise but I found it ultimately a pointless experience that added nothing to the storyline in general.

The Halo's are never known for brilliant story telling but this game pretty much detracts from it, resulting in what I would call 'cheer fan wankery'.

At least Halo 1, 2 and 3 felt somewhat Sci-Fi ish, this is just some war FPS set on another planet with cartoon alien villains.

Well the first game was okay and entertaining, even though it was pretty much by the book and quite bland and sterile when it came to map design/environments.

The second game added a little to the formula but suffered from repetitive levels like the first game.

The third game looks nice but we see the signs that the ball has been dropped as outside some gameplay additions the game doesn't do anything new and even lacks things from the previous games like the entertaining chaos when all three factions are on the same map and start fighting each other.

Most of the fans enthusiasm comes from the multiplayer mode as I guess most of them have never played FPS games on a PC.

Got it at K-Mart. Now I have a coupon for 25 bucks off my next game purchase there. Looks I'm getting New Vegas for only 35 dollars now.

The only reason I'm really getting Reach, is because it doesn't look like 3. Halo 3 I gave up on entirely, because every match, regardless of mode, would become SWAT, where everyone just spammed the Battle Rifles for magic insta-kills left and right. The new one, with general better weapons, armors that actually do something, all sounds pretty nice.

How are Battle Rifles = insta-kills?
