Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

A new version of my fallout2 hi-res patch is up, '2.0c'.

Bug fixes:
-The Mr. Fixit Mod should now work.
-Fixed a bug with the "obj_on_screen" script function not adjusting to the new screen size.

Also added an option in the "f2_res.ini" for blacking out the map and Iface-bar when viewing the Dialog screen. To enable look in the [OTHER_SETTINGS] section and set DIALOG_SCRN_BACKGROUND to 1.

Links can be found in my sig and the first post.

Entering the world map from Arroyo for the first time, the mouse freezes, the music loops, and there's an error that says "The instruction at ffffffff referenced memory at ffffffff. The memory could not be read from." Every time. The game worked flawlessly up until then, so the issue is definitely with the world map.

Anybody know what might be causing this? I'm running FO2 UK 1.02 with Megamod 2.34, Sfall 1.43b (with Get Drunk and Extra Traits), Hi-Res 2.0c and Weapons Redone 1.7, they're all supposed to be compatible.

Is it normal that the background map shifts to upper left when the dialogue window shows up?
The map view will shift towards the npc you a talking to in order to capture an image for the dialog screen. In regular fallout2 this is hidden behind the dialog screen. If you wish you can hide the background while viewing the dialog screen by setting DIALOG_SCRN_BACKGROUND to 1 in "f2_res.ini".

You should try disabling the hi-res patch temporarily by rerunning "f2_res_patcher.exe", to confirm if the hi-res patch is at fault.

It wasn't the Hi-Res Patch, apparently. Any other ideas? Sfall, maybe? I'm thinking it might be the parts that handle world map speed.

Tried it out on 1.02US + 1.2Restoration Project - Works very nice :)

I couldn't get additional engine tweaks to work, but I guess they are included in Restoration project, because I have all options working.

I run the game just as I was dreaming about - in windowed mode 800x600 upscaled to 1600x1200. On a screen with 1920x1200 native resolution it looks just fine for me and I don't have performance problems. Finally you can run fallout alongside your daily programs :)

Things I wonder about:
* in my case even when I alt-tab out of Fallout it continues to eat out one of CPU cores. I guess it has to do with Direct Draw rendering, but still, effectively Fallout halves my computer performance :)
* I can't run really high resolutions (1600x1200) without massive slow down and path-finding doesn't reach as far as you see anyway, so very high resolutions are quite unusable. (just a note, I don't need it anyway)
* mouse speed - I have mouse on max as always and it is soo not enough at anything higher than native resolution.
* great work, I love this, makes F2 my other casual game (after all my playthroughs and turn based game in windowed mode is fantastic for relaxation :D )

Are there any mods to fix up the edges of maps so you don't see the crappy bits. Like the bridge out of arroyo.

Hey Mash!

Are you going to add side art for the Iface-bar for Fallout 1 as well?

Yep, I've made it look slightly newer than the f2 art and changed the colour slightly to better suit the f1 iface.
I meant to have had a new version out by now. But I've been tweaking and changing my f2 patch a bit and have ended up creating more work for myself. New versions should be available soon though.

I've been out of the loop for quite a some time, and I'm just posting this to get updated. There's no way still to play in a window on a higher resolution than the native 640x480 without getting major lag in everything, from moving the cursor to walking a square?

I'd love to play Fallout 1/2 in a window, but 640x480 is unbearably smalll...

New versions of my hi-res patches for both fallout 1&2 are up and about. Links are in my sig and/or the first post.
For version 2.0 users; the Screen Settings Panel is now accessed from a button in the Options Panel. Fallout 1 is the same and in that case the Options Panel can now be accessed from the Main-menu.

For Joey Ravn:
On my machine I can run fallout2 at 1440x900 in a window with no noticeable lag but I've always been able to do that. Timeslip did make some improvements to sfall to reduce lag but that was many month ago.

Mash....my man. Now I can dig my Fallout 1 cd from the dust.

I have also noticed some slowdown if I use higher res than 640X480 (I use always 800X600). It is still playable, but slighly annoying. I have AMD64 3200+ (2Ghz) and Geforce 7600GT.
