Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

Just a quick progress update:

Lately I've been tidying up a lot of the problems with viewing maps at hi-res.

The most obvious thing I've done is to introduce border clipping when viewing maps smaller than your screen res.

Before.
After.

Pixote will probably put out a hit on me now as he's already fixed this up the hard way in the RP by bordering the affected maps with black scenery art.

I wont bother giving any more predictions as to when the next release will be ready but it shouldn't be to far away.

This is great news Mash - those black blockers were a pain in the arse to place...I will leave them in for the next release of the RP, but it's good to see a cleaner solution. I nominate you for the Fallout buddies award. :P

Awesome stuff, that looks fantastic! Quick question, though: will you also update the Fallout 1 high resolution patch with the new features at some point (I presume you're currently working on the Fallout 2 one)?

Yep updates for fallout1 and the mapper will follow the fallout2 release. I always start with fallout2 as it's more popular due to mods and such.

Border clipping is really great! Wanted to go the pixote-way with black borders as well, but now I don't have to anymore. Good, that I didn't started with it yet. :p

Map edges being at the same position for every resolution is great as well. Has been damn annoying to adjust every map for every resolution.

Version 3.0 is now available for download - links in my sig or on the first page.
Lots of internal changes in this one so check the Read-Me. And be sure to post if you find any bugs or other weirdness.
If you want to use this with the MegaMod or RP you need to copy the appropriate map folder from the Extras folder in the ZIP to your patch directory(usually 'your fallout2 install dir'\data\).

To Mod Makers:
The map edge file format has changed so you wont be able to change the edges until I release the new Mapper patch which I'm working on now.

Edit:
Non English users can also modify the text used for the Screen Settings Window to their own language. Edit the "ScrnSet.msg" file found in the "Extras" folder of the ZIP with a text editor(eg. NotePad). Then copy to 'your fallout2 install folder'\data\text\'your language folder'\game\.
If you post the edited file I'll include it in the next release.

Yep, both Fallout1 and the Mapper will get updates. I'm focusing on the Mapper first to get edge editing sorted out.

Will there be different map edges for Fallout 2 and the Restoration Project, at the moment they have different size maps. Some maps on the RP have been extended slightly, for practical and aesthetic reasons. Such as the Temple and Canyon maps.

Also note, the scroll and scenery blockers have been set up for the extended maps, so critters will be able to run behind the black boarders on the smaller maps...see above. I suggest for the RP will continue with the extended map borders. Thanks Mash.

........

EDIT: Yeap got it working.

Map edges for the RP are included in the ZIP but must be copied across manually. They go in the same folder as the actual maps under "data\maps\".

Excellent news, Mash! Can't wait for the Mapper version! :D

And thank you for all your hard work!

Pixotes screenshot above showed me that it would be nice if we could see the borders in the mapper via some thin colored line or such. Would that be possible?

I think it should be doable, I intend to try it out at least. Pixote's concept stuff always inspires.

I wish you had finished these upgrade before I started mapping for the RP...all those black boxes, and screen edges almost drove me insane. :P

What upgrades are we likely to see with the Mapper version. Is it possible for the top menu to remain visible, instead of disappearing when you remove the mouse cursor, maybe it could be an option.

Mash are you skilled enough to make some changes to how the mapper works, for instance:

The delete key can only delete on thing at a time - but the copy function (you must drag a box over the thing you want copied), can copy multiple things. Is it possible to make a delete box similar to the copy one...drag and then delete multiple things.

Also a button for the "Toggle Block Obj View" function.

@ Pixote:
Editing the new map edge format is the primary objective for the next release and I want to get it done quickly so I can move onto the fallout1 patch.
But go ahead and post your wish list. I intend to revisit the mapper once the fallout1 patch is done as there are a few improvement I'd like to make as well.

Version 3.0 of the BIS Mapper Patch is up, not as polished as I would like but I will revisit it in a few weeks once I have the Fallout1 patch out of the way.
Text size for the interface is still the same at the moment as I didn't have the time to finish it as yet but editing map edges should be pretty easy now. I also added a button for toggling the blockers cause it was easy, I'll get to your other requests eventually Pixote :)
The fallout2 patch also got a small update, to fix up a couple of problems when scrolling beyond the hex grid.
Links in my sig as always.

Tested it. This is far too cool to be true. The mapper function, that is. Really love it.

Adding the new scroll blockers is faster and less "complex" than I thought. Also the toggle button for invisible objects is a very fancy addition.

/Edit: Except the menu point "screen settings" which froze my mapper and screen, so I had to logoff / restart in order to use my system again. :>
