Hi-Res Patches for Fallout1&2 & the BIS Mapper

I see what you mean, there is only room for seven lines of text. English versions do about eight I think. I might be able to fit an extra line in there by shifting things around a bit. I'll see what I can do.

Will that work for English versions too? I mean, I can't remember if that was already proposed, but it would be totally awesome if you managed to enlarge the dialogue screen window, allowing more player options to be displayed (like at least 10 for example) - it would be a great help in all kinds of riddles, when you have multiple options, and with dialogue-packed NPCs for whom you have lengthy player options depending on the PC's skills etc.
We experienced this problem in MR a lot, and we had to truncate some of our dialogue to fit in that tiny window.

Or if enlarging is not feasible, how about the ability to scroll down to the options that did not fit in the window? This could actually mean we can have unlimited dialogue options :crazy:

I meant I would adjust the position of the text so as to fit another line in the original graphics. It would probably look a little cramped but would be better than missing a line. So it would be a Chinese option only.

Scrolling sounds the better option for the regular US version. Probably more of an sfall thing. I may take a stab at it at some point, I'll add it to my list.

Thanks gvx, I'll include your 'ScrnSet.msg' file in the next release.
I'll see what I can do about row number and spacing options. This should only be necessary for the Chinese version correct?

@gvx: Ok I understand now, this is for your US to Chinese exe patch.
Is this available to download somewhere or are you still working on it?
I'm happy to make the hi-res patch compatible but I would like to have something to test it on before I do. In the mean time setting IFACE_BAR_WIDTH=640 in the f2_res.ini should disable the new code.

hi. recently searched for mods after playing fallout 2 for month, and found both Mash high resolution patch and Killap's unofficial patch to take my interest. While i was able to install killap's successfully, i cant say the same for this one.

Unrecognized Data Found!
fallout2.exe may not be the correct version.
Patch has NOT been installed.
Installation Terminated!

given this message, which i compared with an earlier post, although my fallout 2 install comes from steam. Could this solely be the issue? is their anything that should be edited within the files? i would really appreciate the help, after seeing screen shots of the patch, i'm really excited to see it on my own cpu !

You know it helps, if you give specs of your system especially operating system and all, and list of files and folders after steam installation of Fallout 2. And what exactly you did to install Hi-res patch.

@Anniealbertpage:
The hi-res patch wont work on the steam fallout2.exe. The strange thing is that Killaps patch should have replaced the steam fallout2.exe with one that is compatible.
If all else fails you could extract a copy of the fallout2.exe from the unofficial patches manual install package.

Added an option in the "f1_res.ini" to reduce CPU usage.
What a coincidence... Been thinking to request this feature! You're truly a hero Mash :salute:

----------------------------EDIT

Is there any way to play Fallout in windowed 800x600?

----------------------------EDIT2

Is there an option to reduce CPU usage in Fallout 2? I don't remember if it's hogging CPU, or not.

There will be.:wink:

That one's already part of sfall thanks to Timeslip. There's a "ProcessorIdle" setting under the "Misc" section of the ddraw.ini.

@Mash: I got another report of the black box of size 640x480 in the upper-left of the screen on Fallout 1. Did you need anything from them, as far as system specs, or the .ini file, etc? If at all possible if you could PM me or email to FalloutFIXT@Gmail.com as I don't usually follow this thread, so I might forget to check it.

Thank you thank you! :notworthy:

i'm holding 4gb RAm. Windows 7 64 bit. 2.4 ghz processor.

i succesfully installed killap's unofficial i found that , oddly enough, it hadn't replaced the .exe for some reason. Following Mash's instructions, i found the .exe from killap's manual install patch and extracted it in order to replace the original application. in doing so, i found that it removed the original .exe but did not work independently. found both the new .exe and the original shortcut remaining on my desktop 'broken', so now i've done a fresh install from steam and was hoping this forum could help me from there. i've attached a picture of the files fresh with the install, no edit.

According to your pic you have a Windows 95-98-ME folder in there. But you are on Windows 7. You have installed the wrong version of fallout2.exe.
1. Download the killaps patch here.
2. Then install it according to readme.txt inside the archive. You need to use folder Windows XP-VISTA-7.
3. After that you would have the right set up for Hi-res patch to be installed.
4. Download it here and install.
5. Enjoy!

PS NOTE: DO NOT INSTALL FALLOUT to Program Files. It is a protected folder in Windows 7. Choose something like c:/games/Fallout2. If you don't, you will have problems with saves and who knows what else.

As Drobovik said, you will run into problems with fallout2 under program files.

My advice:
Create a new folder eg. C:\Games\Fallout2UP\
Copy fallout2.cfg, Master.dat, Critter.dat, Sound folder(I'm assuming the music is here under sound\music\*.acm) and the fallout2.exe(the installer will look for this and replace it).
Than edit these lines in fallout2.cfg with notepad:
music_path1=sound\music\
music_path2=sound\music\
critter_dat=critter.dat
critter_patches=data\
master_dat=master.dat
master_patches=data\
Run the unofficial patch installer and when asked point it at "C:\Games\Fallout2UP".
Install the Hi-res patch.
Done.

how do you mean editing those lines? remove whatever is existing and replace it with these? edit lines most similar to these and replace them with the text you've provided? here is the text that i found when opening the .cfg file with notepad.

[sound]
music_path1=data\sound\music\
music_path2=data\sound\music\

[system]
critter_dat=critter.dat
critter_patches=data
master_dat=master.dat
master_patches=data
free_space=0
Language=English

@Anniealbertpage:
I meant edit those lines to look like mine. Are the music files (01hub.acm etc)actually under data\sound\music? I assumed they were in the sound folder in your pic.
