Hopeful features in GTA IV

The reception of this game is fucking ludicrous. Near unanymous perfect scores, an article on how we gaming has now finally become art. And, of course, the whole IGN exclusive review corruption/nonsense

Goddamn bullshit

Once again the gaming media manages to be idiotic enough to turn me away from a game

Also, GTA IV cost about 100 million USD to make

I agree Kharn.

Also it's finals next week at a lot of USA colleges and even this week the week before finals means a lot of projects and papers are due. The timing of the release for this game is going to ruin quite a few grades...

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Hahaha! This is the silliest thing I've ever seen, I might be blind, but I have'nt noticed anything special about GTA IV. How the hell can they give it a 99% average score?
Did they convert the holy grail to binary code or something?!

Oh, I was surprised though when I read a Swedish newspaper(In Swedish ofc) that had reviewed the game;

"GTA IV is like a Status Quo-cd with a flashy cover. You admire it and it's details but the contents is the same as always. I hope Rockstar dares to bury this series now and make something entirely new. Because they have the capacity to create fantastic deep games, of that there is no doubts."

Translation is'nt perfect, but I think the sum comes together well.

Finally played it. Well, even though it probably does not deserve all the 10/10 and the 99% and the "best game eva"s, I thought it was great. Lots of details making it far more realistic and therefore "immersive" ( god how I hate this word ) than previous episodes. Did not play it enough to say whether it's the best episode in the series but odds are it is from what I've seen.

You're not going to play a good game because it got overhyped by the gaming media?

I never said I was going to play it without the hype, I don't even own a console. I said the hype is turning my interest into a lower pitch, like it always does.

I don't want to play it just because of all the hype. I'll wait until no one likes it anymore and go grab a used copy.

Exactly. The last thing I want to do is engage in a conversation haphazardly about the game. I hate people who talk about nothing but 1 pop item for 4 hours straight.

You’re all dumb. The game has great features like multiple player and much more improvements it also happens to take place around MY hood. Of course a game like GTA is going to be over hyped (what did you expect), Rockstar has been holding it down since GTA:III and each title has add value to the title. There is a reason this game is everywhere, because it’s good. I don't own a console either but if I did, I would be playing it right now. Since I don’t I’m simply going to wait until it gets ported for the computer.

BTW I have photos of some of the locations of which the game is based on, I can post them on request.

Sure, it might be a great game, but the press is handling it like it's never been done before in any way, made out of the sacred holy grail of coding. It does'nt deserve that high a score it is getting.

I would'nt mind some photos though, it'd be welcome :)

Well, the hype is probably exagerated ( the game has its flaws and is not THAT incredible ) but from what I've played it sure looked like the best episode of the series ( which makes it also the best game of its genre ) so the reception, imo, is well deserved.

I keep hearing great things about this game.

I wonder what this will do for the expectations of Fallout 3? Will people be too busy playing GTA 4 to pay attention to Bethesda's Fallout 3? Or will Bethesda's Fallout 3 pale in comparison.

(I know what I will be wishing for at Christmas!)

The attention for any game, great or not, is a maximum of 3 months. And that's on the outside. It usually take 1 or 2 months for everyone to forget it and move on.

So this doesn't affect Fallout in any way, beyond taking away all the GotY awards.
