How did you discover Fallout ?

I observed my brother play our piece of shat computer for much of my youth..... When I saw him blow half of a persons body off from a gunshot, I was hooked for life... Ive played it through(1 and 2) many times over..

I found F2 in my process of trying out every game I get my hands on. I haven't played anything like it before and didn't had any idea what to do, but it all seemed natural: hmm... a closed door in the temple... maybe if I try this lockpick thingie? And so on... I got out of Arroyo as soon as I could (didn't even got the items from the Elder) and reached Klamath where I started talking to people and a bit later got my ass kicked by the geckos. "Ah, so that's how things go... I'd better not go there so soon!"
Well, you know what I mean... the game got me and since then I played both F1 and 2 so many times I've lost the count, but there are still things I want to do in them so I'll be back at them just as soon as the radiation clears a little from my brain.

I heard about Fallout when a buddy of mine in college found out that I played Arcanum. After searching for many, many months, I finally found five copies of the Fallout 1&2 jewel cases in the back of a Sam Goody in a local mall. Though I hated the interface at first I grew to love it, as there was no more running straight at someone when you intended to attack someone (a la Arcanum).

I remembered glimpsing over a review of Fallout in PC Gamer. I went to Best Buy (I'm weak) and noticed the box sitting on the shelf. The second I flipped the cover up, I knew I had to buy it. Plus that power armor on the cover looks so damn cool. After I played Fallout (I still haven't beat it to this day, waiting for my copy I won on Ebay to show up so I can) I remembered seeing the ads for FO2 in PC Gamer: "*Minus the fairies, spells, and other crap,". I had no choice but to buy that when it came out...so I did. I showed a "friend" of mine Fallout and let him borrow it for a while. He said he "lost" it after a couple months and it was gone from me forever. At that point, I couldn't find any more complete boxed copies so I was stuck in a rut. I gave up on the game until august of this year. I plugged in FO2 again and have beat it twice. Now I just need Fallout so I can actually beat the game that started it all for me.

You know, there's a Sam Goody right near where I live that has five copies of the jewel case FO1/FO2 for $10 apiece.

Well, HAD five copies.

I was given two cd's by a friend whose son didn't like 'em or wasn't playing them. One of them was Fallout 2. I did not like rpg's games, they seemed stupid to me. However, one day I started playing and went to the fallout board in gamefaqs.com and just got hooked. I have played both fallout's and I am a rpg fan now.

After that he recommended it to me. Thanx pal, I will never forgive you for this! I lost so many nights....

:D

Wrong! I recommended it to you when I considered you're mature enough to play it without getting some serious brain damage.

Looks like I should have waited more.

Oh well...

Psycho: No spamming. I think I've warned you before about that.
Oh, and people, try to keep a bit on topic.

I found out about fallout from a friend. I watched him play it, then he let me borrrow it. Later, i bought the dual cd from walmart. Then he introduced me to FOT. I just won it off of ebay.

Edit: 04/04/05 - Not enough detail. let me rewrite it.

It was a few years ago, i was 8. I saw my friend playing a cool game on teh computer. His character was being thrown in jail for stealing in junktown. I asked what game it was. He said fallout. He showed me how to use skills and how to do combat, etc. in 2001, he had copies of the FOT CDs,and brought them over to my house. I installed it, and thought it was awesome.Unfortunately, when i wanted the copies again, his sister took a paperclip to his CDs, and they were absolutely unplayable, and uninstallable. 2002 maybe, I saw the dual jewel case FO1/FO2 at the wal-mart. I bought it, and played it a little bit. I now have Fallout Tactics, my own, original copies. on Gamespy my name is Flamer67, if you ever wanna play me. i have told every single one of my friends about fallout, and they think it sounds cool.

I was searching for an encyclopedia on cd-rom at my local library and found the Fallout 1 box.
After that it took...er... 2 Years before i ordered all three parts at amazon.. 8)

Kinda of interesting how many found it after searching through the bargain bins filled with gargabe at each store you know of. Isnt that related to how you have to scrounge for supply's in the ruined Wasteland presented in the game?

Looks like it was already in the blood even before you played...

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Ah, this brings tears to the eyes of mine. :)

The first thing I ever saw of Fallout was an ad in Swedish PC Gamer. Looking at it and reading the overview I got the feeling it might be a really cool game (the image was the Power Armor helm we all know and love). I kinda forgot about it, but then some weeks later I saw the game on a shelf in a store in town. I picked it down, read through the features and overview on the back, and sold I was. I knew I had to get that game, so I bought it and here we are. It was the perfect game at the perfect time.
