I can't feel my arms anymore! (not an ailment)

After two years of waiting and saving I have finally gotten my new PC this evening, and I have been looking out for this damn thing for quite some time.

Unfortunate the shop that assembled it couldn't deliver it to my home today or in the next following days (its a one man store) so I had to arrange my own transport.

I was considering asking someone else to pick it up tomorrow with me (if he could) but I was so sick of waiting I decided to pick it up myself.

The distance between my home and the store really isn't that big but little did I realize how big the box would be.
Yee gods, never again am I going to walk this distance with such a big object!

The first few minutes weren't so hard but after a while I had to take a break almost every couple of steps I had taken to catch my breath, I think it took twice the time it normally takes.

And when I finally got it at home I could barely feel my arms or fingers, and I still had to go back to pick up the monitor.

I am going to install and run the beast tonight, with some luck I will be back online within twenty minutes.

Just be glad your arms didn't lock into an awkward position.

Once my arms got locked and it looked like I was constantly attempting to perform The Monkey.

Hehe. I recognize that. I don't have a car myself either and can't always rely on others to move stuff for me, so I often move stuff on foot as well. That way, one soon finds out that stuff can weigh an awful lot.

You should have just bought a laptop or one of those EEE pc's.
:D

Yeah but often you realize this is after you actually have made the purchase.

Your next purchase should be a car. Unbelievably useful.

I wish, I had a car but I was forced to sell it.
The maintenance and insurance costs became to much.

Unbelievably polluting as well.

My sister says the same and yet she wants one herself.

Back to my PC, well it seems to be running but I can't get on Internet, I am now using my old one.
Guess its some config thingy that needs to be changed as I do see a connection when I plug it in, it just doesn't connect

Of course around this time all the phone help desks are closed so it will have to wait till tomorrow.

After that things should all be great, I wonder what games next to Half Life 2, Ep 1 and 2, Portal and Fallout 1 and 2 I should install.

How about Pong? :D Just kidding. Maybe you should have posted this in the gaming and hardware section?

Don't feel bad about the fact that you had to sell your car. You're doing this planet a great service. "What comes around, goes around." Fate will treat you to something nice. Soon. Trust me. :ok:

Fuck cars, I moved apartments once using just the subway. The armoire was a bitch getting through the turnstiles.

If I had a Seal of Approval, you would have earned it.
Oh... damn, this ain't The Order... :?

I love it when people sole handedly perform tasks that others think are only doable with the aid of cars, trucks, ...

Many people said vehicular manslaughter was impossible without a car. I guess my bicycle and I proved a lot of people wrong that day.

I once moved my entire desktop pc, including monitor, and my luggage over 250km using a little wheeled thing (dunno the english word). Including bus and trainrides..oh boy, it took a week or so to feel the arms again - and a year to stop hating the inpolite society.

I was kidding about the armoire, I was a poot batchelor, but shortly after I purchased a wall to wall carpet for the room. The guy said he could deliver it next week (I lived like 6 blocks from the store). I tossed it on my shoulder John Matrix style and humped it home. Had to be carefull taking turns through the market lest I whacked someone 3 Stooges stylie.
:whyioughta:

Hi guys,

Seems I started quite a conversation, I'll check it later.

Anyway, finally got internet running on my new rig.
It seems the guy building the PC has forgotten to transfer my personal files which I explicitly told him to do!

Nothing like hefting a cumbersome-as-feck 30 kg Fender guitar amp. It wasn't more than a few hundred meters (I went by tram) but my arms nearly fell off. I probably should've removed the package, it would've been way easier to lift by the amp's handle.

I feel your pain. When I lived in Manhattan, I once bought a 27" TV from Circuit City. I couldn't catch a cab or a car service, so I hoisted it up on my shoulder and walked the few blocks to the subway. I'd walk about 20 yards, rest, walk another 20 yards, etc... It ended up taking me three and a half hours to move that damned TV from Circuit City to the subway to my house. I think no one bothered me because I was covered in sweat and only an insane person would try to move a bulky 100 lb box in this manner.

Of course, I was young and invulnerable back then. Today, I am old, slow, and can afford delivery service.

I once rowed over a lake, and then walked 15 km to get home from a friends house.
Yes we had been drinking.
