id's post-apocalyptic game: Rage

Well, this game looks like complete and utter garbage. Not surprising considering who made it I suppose. I hated Doom 3, and this looks like its going to be identical except for the setting, so I think I'll avoid the Christmas rush and start hating this "game" now.

Oh no! Yet another monster jumping out at me from yet another corner! Oh, the horror!
Actually, they prefer to spawn behind you after you walk by a certain point in a room. Behind = ?scary!

but they confirmed it will be outside and there will be daylight.

maybe you missed the words outside and daylight.

outside. daylight.

So now I can have well lit monsters jump out at me from behind trees rather than corners?! Oh joy! I can't wait. It will be a totally new experience!

It has day and night cycles, and, if you saw the trailer, there's still indoors, and it looks like shit will still jump out from behind corners.

Here's to hoping for old school run-and-gun enjoyment

And better lit environments

And well designed monsters

and....

Well, they clearly aren't making it for you, then?

At least they're unashamed and upfront in what they do; they aren't going to, for instance, make a FPS and claim its a RPG....

(At least, they'd better not do.)

True. I hate FPS in general, really. I've never had a taste for it and think it's an overdone genre.
That said, I have no ill-will towards these guys for making another one as long as they don't have any pretense of it being something it's not.

And it won't be just another 'dark room shooter' like Doom 3.
Source, scroll down to "The New Game: RAGE".
"But we eventually reached a point where we said, 'Do we really want to do another dark id game?"

"What we wound up with is this post-apocalyptic Road Warrior-type game. It's still about 50% run and gun, it's got adventure elements, a lot of driving elements as well." :)

Now compare that to Fallout 3...

I don't know, I've got the utmost trust in iD Software. They haven't failed me since 1994; so for 13 years they've been trustworthy. Pretty much as long as Blizzard Entertainment has been trustworthy. They can produce anything they want to, I know that it will be good.

In Fallout3 we can't drive cars, so I will buy Rage :lalala:

Seriously I really expect that those two games will be compared by XBOX360 magazines :D

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but isn't this game slated for a way later release than Fallout, say mid-2009, prolly later...

I think Rage looks cool. I have more interest in it than I have in F3 atm.
I think it's kinda like Stalker, but with mad rally buggies, and no nuclear plant.

I think it could be cool to have a game that lets you have highway battles in a freeroam fps environment, but rally cars + fps segments seems kind of lame.

As with all id titles, no-one knows the release date; all we know is it'll be released "when it's done".

The reason I prefer isometric view over the fps is realism. WHAT? yes, i truly believe this. Theres very little realism in the fps camera and mouse driven look. It's like looking at the world through horse blinders. The environments are getting better and the graphics are lifelike, but your presence in the gameworld is still the same as in 1990s. I have lost my interest in walking around, spastically moving the mouse around to see around 3D environments. To get a good experience personally, I would need to modify my video displays and sound output, and thats a little too much effort.

Why is fallout MORE immersive to me, other than the RPG element - it is that I can see and feel a believable area around my character...without having to flickaround my camera and strobe images into my eyes.

that being said, I am not very interested in Rage as a game. It will be another milestone in computer graphics and not gameplay in my mind. I really hope the mod tools will be a very prominent bullet point in the design of this game so something other than a run and gun pos can be produced.

That's how it should be anyway. Programmers should not be pressed against the wall and forced to program faster at gunpoint.

A happy cow is a healthy cow, which produces good milk. :D

I don't have much interest in FPS's but this actually looks quite good. The mutants have a cool "The Hills Have Eyes" look to them, too.
