Interplay's Fallout MMO

It Wandered In From the Wastes
So, whaddaya think? General ideas about taking the Fallout Universe into the MMO world?

I think it could work, but I think utlimately it would be a pain to play with so many ignorant people who are not as enlightened as I am,

Lets prepare our NMA guild inside the Fallout MMO that only accept the most distinguished people! (I'm still workin' on becoming just that..just gimme time dammit!)

I dunno. MMOs suck in my opinion. They get boring VERY fast. They take WAY too much time. Usually you have to pay monthly for it AND buy the game itself. Gameplay has no impact on the story. People playing it are 12-16 years old mostly.

Maybe this one would prove better, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'd like to see it, just out of morbid curiosity over how they plan on doing it, and which other MMO it comes closest to being a clone of.

Personally, my MMO phase was blessedly short, but I might actually try this one on the one-in-a-million shot that they actually manage to make a true-to-feel, true-to-canon MMO that attracts at least a moderate showing from the "glittering gems of hatred" market.

Consider this about as likely as Brother None getting up on stage with Todd Howard and the Loch Ness Monster to sing "I Did it My Way" at the FO3 wrap party.

Wait, so the Fallout MMO wasn't scrapped and the company didn't rail into the depths of bankruptcy? Thought I heard that. o-O

No no no. Interplay sold the rights to Fallout 1,2 and Tactics 2, but still have the rights to make a MMO. Now they are currently in state of production, I heard they're looking for staff members I think.

Well, even if the game itself sucks (assuming it gets released at all, and it's a big assumption), Jason Anderson being involved might give us some nice additions to the Fallout canon.

Well, if I played the MMO I would play it as a 'pure fun game' only, I hope they add a super boss that's The Master :)

Anyway, I think a Fallout mmo could be quite good, there are so many possibilities for character developement. It could turn out quite well, if they really make it sort of survival and really post-apoc with all that comes along with it (scavenging, making tools hunting for food, staying away from disease etc etc, not just a sort of WoW...clone but in post apoc enviroment :|

Enjoying any product from Iplay now is like enjoying a round of anal penetration from the devil... Ohh that burns and I feel so violated... I'd rather not, no matter how good it is.

I hope they have the hardcore version of PvP, so that you can pretty much kill anyone at any place in the wastes (allthough in the cities the NPC guards get pissed off at ya and kill you)

And when you die you loose exp/your backpack, so that murdering people gives you items =)

But makes you sort of the scumbag everyone wants to gang up and kill

I agree, also I think that Fallout MMO should have no respawn - if you die, you make a new character, because respawning would kill the Fallout's atmosphere of harsh wasteland.
It would be more like playing Fallout Iron Man, but with ever changing world and quests and interpersonal relations.

I think that it would be great to create a NMA PK Guild. Such thing would make us even more infamous :D .

We would be like raiders, from town to town, killing, stealing, destroying

But how about the Vault's?Would they appear in the MMO?
I wouldn't want The Master as a Boss, i want new bosses!
And a few new creatures!(just a few)

Hey everbody!Post what you want in FOOL

= No respawn. - This would make the game extremly frustrating and almost impossible to play.

= Rading Corpses - As for loosing XP + equiptment when dying; EVE Online has the same thing, let me tell you its NOT a good thing. Working your way up to the top and then BAM, suddenly your a noob again after MONTHS of work with nothing to your name save the free nub ship and an evemail billing you for the cloneing proccess (respawn).

I honestly think a Fallout MMO (if turn based, say team turn based) could work. You would have to be very careful when making it to avoid making a washed up arcade version of Fallout with the 'special' system thrown in for a laugh.

Personally when I first completed fallout I dreampt of playing it online and opening up my own gun store with player gaurds and all sorts. Then when I had sold enough guns and made enough money me and my following of players could go take over a Vault and rent out rooms or build an army or somthing.

I think realistically you would have to have combat only in certain areas. Having turn based combat in a town would be a nightmare, some fool walks onto the map, iniciates combat and then walks away from the computer. Very frustrating.

Arena matches in towns - now that would be good, where only the players in the ring actually start combat, and everyone outside the ring is free to roam around. Have a player running a boxing ring, or a full scale collosium with betting and all sorts.

So, if turn based, how would you account for masses of players on screen at the same time? The answer I believe would have to be restricting the number of players in an area or in combat at a time.

For example only 10 players can enter a dungeon at any one time. Perhaps PVP dungeon's you can enter to hunt other players, or some elaborate use of the Arena systems. A co-operative MMO would be excellent with the possibility of PvP.

There are lots of ways you could do it. My only worry is that in making an MMO Interplay will take no risks as they did with Fallout and make another bland grindfest.

Turn based combat in an MMO has never been done, its a daunting task to think of. How you would get it all to work together and so on. But if its going to be Fallout, its got to be turn based combat - end of.

If it has no respawn, I sure as hell hope it'd have no PvP combat. Seriously.

Ehl Oh Ehl. Ghankt.
But seriously, I could see some comedic value coming out of such a system.

Why not? Fallout MMO without PvP and permadeath would be a grotesque parody of the original Fallout.

Why Fallout should be like all others MMO, where players farm to create characters on 98859859 level? Maybe it should have some new formula? Maybe it should be a world where advanced equipment is rare, life is short and levelling up past level 2-3 isn't so common (like in original Fallout)?
Maybe even having an advanced weapon and other hardware wouldn't be a good idea, because it would make life more dangerous?

Turn Based combat? In Massively Multiplayer Online RPG?

I'm not saying that you should loose everything, loosing 10% of current xp is good enough, and the loss of your backpack (inventory) and a 15% chance of loosing equipment you're currently using (helmet, spear, armor) It's 15% chance for each item, so you could loose just 1 thing while having the rest. And if you die by npc monsters you can still run to your corpse and loot it yourself.. but if another player killed ya..he's likely to have looted you allready :)

Permadeath? No, that would not be a good idea, just wake up at a hospital with the reductions I typed..

And of course some sort of storage system, maybe a banking system where you place your items, or maybe a housing system where you get your own small private spot, where you can invite people, and uninvited people can't enter, and you can store stuff in there, in a trunk or something.

I admit the sound of a game where getting past level 2-3 is rare sounds excellent.

You could have a hero of the wastes who has reached level 10 or somthing, then, because of his fame, is hunted down by bounty hunters.

If you did die however you would want to start in a different place every time, with different things to do. Otherwise it would be like living the same life over and over.

Well, one of the things that put me off MMORPGs is that they aren't about real roleplaying but about grinding and advancing in levels.
More, one has to play a lot of time to become "someone" and it's more like an investment than real roleplaying.
I would prefer to play a MMORPG where I can create a character and play with and against other players, not to gain super epic levels, but for fun/roleplaying experience.
One of the great things in Fallout is that a level two or three character is already powerful. Most of armed characters in Fallout are level 1-3 and even BoS paladins are pretty low level.

Just like Vault Dweller :D .

Exactly. My idea is that players would start in different places and try to deal with the world as it is.
Every time different place, different people, different experience.
Roleplaying would be mandatory.

I want a Vault! Lots of Vaults and military bases!! and lotsa scavenging, yes, that's it!
