I'd argue it's only generic cuz everyone has copied the absolute hell of of Syd Mead.

I think the primary reason for it being generic was that the studio knew it was going to be a titanic uphill battle to sell. The fact that its Harrison Ford in a greasy t-shirt and the orange/blue meme combo to an eye searingly excessive degree is quite funny to me in how hard they were trying to mainstream market it
