Jagged Alliance 2

I've installed JA2 a week or two ago. Never played it before, but I saw a friend play it before. I never thought it'd be this great.

Blowing a hole in a wall with a remotely detonated block of C4, with a sniper team ready to shoot everyone inside in an instance, while a heavy weapons expert fires a bunch of mustard gas grenades to smoke out anybody hiding. Best combat ever.

I've just taken the two upper areas of Alma. A few more to go. Gonna get myself a true heavy weapons expert, probably Gus, to actually start using a mortar and perhaps an RPG.

Hey did you also used cows to boost your hand to hand combat skills and when they die fixing them up to also increase your medic skills

Looks like I learned something today. :D

Hehe, sometimes I did that too, mostly when I was through the game, standing right before Deidrannas Palace and just wanted to "level" my avatar. So I've beat the shit out of those cows, healed them etc. It's also possible to do that with those farmer guys in random maps out of the cities, you won't lose Loyality in the towns for that. :D

Which map was the hardest/most annyoing part for you? For me it sometimes was the Grumm Mine, I don't know but I hate this map.
Also, this facility where rocket rifles are created (don't know the correct name) was sometimes a bit annoying, especially in the lower levels. Or sometimes, when conquering a map, you open a door, you see the name "Mike", get an interrupt and then being shot in thousand pieces by his G11. :D

Those farmers. :D

If you have a woman character, be careful what you say to them, because they KIDNAP HER!

Grumm isn't very hard, if you have some LAWs or mortar.

In fact, every map can be easy, if there is a medium sized building with a passable roof. You just hop up there, get in a good position and make noise the Maddog-way. Then gun down, what runs in front of your mercs.

I personally like it more close and personal... with a katana or other knife. Sneaking up to the enemy while nighttime and then one-hit kill them in close combat. That's the real deal.

Hm, everytime I visit Grumm enemies already have gas masks so mustard gas is pretty useless. And yes, if you have a building in the middle of the map, it's easy. But one can only go to the grumm mine from the east, so you have to go through the little forest before you reach the building.

Also, as I said, I just hate those creatures who appear when you ticked the "Sci-Fi" Mode. I know that I just have to kill the queen, but it's just annyoing imo.

One of the hardest was the begining sometimes, cause you get not really good guns but the enemy sometimes can manage a "good hit" from the other side of the map O.o

Also capturing the anti air defences late in the game was sometimes pretty hard. Good to have mortars at that point !

On the other side, indoor fighting like in underground facilities (orma? alma, deidranas palace) was always pretty hard cause the experienced soldiers get almost always the initiative. Lots of trial and error situations. But still fun.

I believe if you can sneak into the training facility in Alma (NW corner) without triggering the alarm and talk to the Sergeant, you get a free Rocket Rifle. If you trigger the alarm, they blow it up. Never done it myself, 'cause it's much harder than just killing everyone.

One of the great things about JA2 is that you don't have to go in guns blazing and blow everyone away. You can find things by sneaking around, but it's very hard that way.

Have you survived your first Drassen counterattack yet? You're still a virgin until you make it past that. :D

Cheezy powergaming stat cheat: find a harmless Crepitus larva and sneak around back and forth behind it to raise Agility.

It's really amazing how many game mechanic things JA2 does right - especially with the 1.13 patches. The pockets and backpack systems are amazing. The gun attachment system is amazing. The wound and healing system is very simple, yet it's better than any other wound and healing system I can remember seeing. Great game.

if you havnt used your men to punch the alien-bug-queen to death with your fists, you havnt done everything in JA2 yet :D works cause you can get some kind of glibber by some stinking farmer that makese you invisible to the bugs (I think I had to do that once even really cause I was runing out of amunition with my assault rifles that thing can take a lot of damage ... mustard gas works wonder though! Just like against real bugs).

Another cool thing is that you can use your mercs to "grap" weaponsfrom the enemy. If youre close enough you can simply walk up to them grap their weapon have it in your inventory and next shoot them with it. Thing is just that you loose all your points for the round so if your enemy has some machete usualy in his invetory ... slized bread. Good to have companions around that do the job for you :D

Nothing more fun then to punch some dieing enemy on the ground though. Fix him up. And punch him again till he dies

Better yet...go down into the mine before the Crepitus Queen appears and set explosives everywhere. Later on, enter the cave and push a button on your remote detonator. Problem solved. :D

Headshots are the best in Jagged Alliance 2 I never really did play much of the game though at all.

I am not sure if that is possible since the alien bugs would appear random in any of your conquered mines and thus you have no chance to get there before the event is kicked in by Deidrana I think.

Though maybe you can get from Tixa to it. But I am not sure right now.

jeeez we are such JA geeks arent we :D

The first time, I died horribly. :)

After that I found out that it depended on taking all of Drassen, so I first took the airport and mine, raised some militia, got some money together and went through the country in search for roaming enemies with better weapons than mine. It was still hard after all that, but doable after a few times of trying out positions. My mercs defended the eastern part of the mine map from rooftops, while the militia got slaughtered in the south/west but held the enemy off long enough for me to clear the north and then swerve back down upon the remaining enemies.

After that, with grenade launchers, superior snipers, rocket launchers and mortars, I've only had to occasional hard spot. Defending the Grumm mine wasn't easy at first, but then I just rigged the north entrance of the map with 2 blocks of C4, some HMX and some dynamite I had with me. Together with remote triggers and mortar fire a lot of the elite units died pretty quickly that way. Defending really is a hell of a lot of fun.

In case you didn't know, you can change the .ini settings so the number of enemies on the tactical map simultaneously is doubled from 32 to 64, and you can increase the number who can share a single sector on the strategic map from 20 to 32. You can potentially get 128 blackshirts attacking simultaneously if they surround the Drassen Mine. 64 will be on the screen at the beginning, and 64 more will arrive in groups as you kill the ones in the first wave.

reminds me to the time I had to defend one of the anti air bases. God was that fun. Not only did I knew about the attack, but I used all the mines in the area and deployed them again on the ground. It did not only helped my mercs to get better with explosives ( ) but the slaughter aftwards was just hilarious watching 20 enemies walking trough a minefield

The great thing is that JA2 is still being actively developed by the community. There are awesome changes and improvements to look forward to in the near future!

Indeed UniversalWolf, I understand they are currently reviewing whole attachment system to see what works best. And soon Urban Chaos v1.13 & Didrianna Lives v1.13 should be in open beta phase.

Headrock over at Bear's Pit seems to be reworking the entire Chance to Hit system for all weapons to make it more realistic, too. It sounds really good from what I've read.
