Killzone 2

Gametrailers preview also mentions that you basically fight wave after wave of these helghast soldiers, which was the problem with the first game, there was so very little variety and it got boring very fast. I'll wait for reviews before I pick it up.

No different from every single CoD game in existence, the original Killzone just had a spectacularly abysmal framerate and uninspired level design along with a pinch of atrociously balanced gameplay to "set it apart".

Of course, even without that, it's still incredibly boring, I found all the CoD games to be so dull and rote that I often wondered how exactly it could be that there were developers who actually found the idea of standing still in one spot for ten minutes shooting at waves of enemies then taking thirty seconds to relocate yourself to the next mass spawning ground an appealing prospect.

True, I'm not a fan of COD games either. They're too repetitive for my taste. I just started COD4 and it does seem like it has a lot of stuff going on to make things more interesting. Fights also happen under different ciircumstances and have different little elements that separate battles. (maybe i just played too little of it). It tries to be more tactical as well.

Killzone has you fight the same group of extremely dumb Helghast soldiers over and over again. The different classes were pretty pointless as well. That's where Killzone 2 videos turn me off; they show very similar battles against a very small variety of enemies. It could be a great game but I'm just not sold just yet because I don't see anything other than graphics. Killzone had great graphics too, it doesn't mean much.

CoD 4 was my first CoD game (at the prompting of friends) and I liked the single player immensly except those damn respawning enemies. The first time it happened I didn't realize they were just respawning for like ten minutes. Jesus, what a pain in the ass.

Ditto on that. It was worth the few dollars I paid to rent it, but I tired of the multiplayer after one session.

I kind of like multiplayer, but it was far too easy to abuse artillery in big games. Dying as I spawn does not a fun experience make.

I'm looking forward to playing some more COD4 just as soon as I have some time. I don't really like the multiplayer, I'm too used to counter strike and I think it's a million times better.

I actually enjoyed KZ1, and the PSP game was good too.

I'm excited about this new one as well. Looks cool, and mulitplayer looks like it will be good.

I kind of liked how Killzone: Liberation for the PSP looked in some ways (cool to see a decent looking shooter on a handheld) but the controllers killed it for me. Just frustrating as all hell.

Other than the graphics Killzone looks pretty generic through and through. All in all, sonyfags will probably love it, Xboxfags will most likely hate it, and Wiifags will just wonder how the motion controls on it work.

I am just waiting for the demo. So far it has received great praise from the Beta testers and the previewers. I was worried all the hype was going to be graphics based only but thankfully that does not appear to be the case.

Also on a side note, sorry for those who were interested but "the man" has put us all on ice and the intro was removed. :(

That one according to a System Wars link is the same video and (should) be in HD. Or you might need to turn it on HD. I am not sure, youtube links are not working for me.

the game looks awesome. the thing is i don't know if i should buy it the day it comes out or not!
i could wait and buy it cheaper later but i got a boner for this one.

The multiplayer has me convinced to get it early. They are using the CoD 4 class / promotion system which I loved, and the reviewers are saying it's very well fleshed out.

Can't wait.

For once reviewers are right on the money it sounds like. It's a curious place that console shooters find themselves in now. The market maybe nearing over saturation and reviewers have caught onto the idea of a solid, if not new game. For instance to quote he who shall not be named no matter how much you try to hate gears you must admit that it does what it does very well. The same seems to be the case with Killzone 2 according to most reviewers at least. It doesn't really do anything new, except for maybe the graphics, which aren't up to Crysis standards so there's nothing amazing there really, but it doesn't everything right and that in it's own way is comendable. In my mind, though, that's not worth a 90. If I do solid work on a paper for creative writing, but it's sort of drab and unimaginative, I'll probably get a B, B+. If it's fantastically original and really entertaining. Then I'll get a solid A. I would say the same shouold go for the Gears games, at least 2.

That's pretty much what the reviewers were saying about Resistance. Gamespot:
If you're going to make a first-person shooter, you might as well take aim to deliver the best of what this style of gaming has to offer. That's what Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac Games must have done with Resistance: Fall of Man.

From what I've seen, it looks like that's what K2 is. I actually want to play Resistance more because I'm biased against this game for some reason. I just don't see the appeal. Maybe it's the bad taste K1 left with me. I will definitely try it out though.

I agree the multiplayer looks phenomenal. The badge mixing system where you can customize your class to be something like "part medic and part scout" etc. seems really cool.

The early previewers and beta testers were giving this game a huge amount of love. I am glad to see so many reviewers agree with the hype.
This game has been in development for 4+ years, had millions upon millions poured into it and has received development help from other Sony exclusive studios, Insomniac and Naughty Dog are the two I recall off the top of my head.

After all that I would hope it is one of the most polished FPS games released to date. Sony has a lot riding on this being a solid title.

On a side note this video is hilarious:

"If you didn't like Xplay giving KZ2 a 5/5. Adam Sessler wants to tell you something"

Also some interesting numbers:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/feb/05/david-reeves-sony-europe-losses

http://dlb-network.com/2009/01/ps3-exclusive-killzone-2-hits-2-on-amazons-pre-order-list/

PS3 games sales are up 53% and there's a healthy 1.1m pre-order book for Killzone 2, the first of a new batch of IPs that Sony will be counting on.

1.1 million already pre ordered in Europe. #2 on Amazon pre orders (I am shocked it is beating out Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter IV, Halo Wars, etc) and last I read it was #1 on Gamestops pre order list.

This is going to be big.
