I picked FOOL because it's the biggest departure from the setting.
If Fallout 3 is a solid, Turn-Based RPG with the right setting, a good combat system, loads of dialog, plenty of freedom, black humor, and a well-written plot, I could deal with Katanas, MP5s, or misplaced technology. But having it be on-line, or in the wrong setting, or using the wrong game model (FPS non-RPG) or wrong combat model (Baldur's Gate combat is fine in Baldur's gate, but it would get messy if applied to the combat in Fallout; Fallout is more tactical and needs its turns).

Yes, it truly is hard to really pick which of the smaller elements that would help to destroying the setting. The big ones are a given, because they tend to emcompass the smaller aspects as well.

The purpose for this is to run the list for about six months. At that time, the most unpopular vote entry will be taken from the list and I think it will allow those who voted on that to vote again. If not, I will just do a re-vote minus the most unpopular, and keep going as it takes the list progressively smaller, taking the results into a ratio that will be scaled for the number of people voting into that particular session.

This way, for six months (might be a bit less, more like two), we can accumulate enough bad ideas (this board and the archived boards have SHITLOADS), refine some of the other ones down if they are not voted upon for a poll, and then make a good list of things that would be just a bad idea for Fallout. I think as the polls go by, the elements will sort themselves out, like FOOL/RT+P/RT+TB/Fallouwind seem to be putting themselves over the item construction and matters that Lord 342 has discussed, because it is generally assumed that if a FOOL is made or the combat system isn't in P&P RPG TB, most of the game will be inherently fucked in design.

At the same time, I will be doing the same with the polling script for the main page, but set it to open into a new window so it doesn't hose the layout.

EDIT: And dammit, this is why I don't like polls on this forum script- bugged. I don't think it will belch, but if it does, I will make a back-up list to re-make the poll from there.

Maybe FOOL shouldn't be in the poll since we are talking about worst Fallout 3 ideas and Bethesda is making FO3 and they don't have the rights to a Fallout MMO game...

My guess at this early stage will be Night Vision will have the fewest votes against; since night vision tech has been around since at least WWII; it was just klunky as all hell. Actually a tube-based Night Vision device would fit really well in Fallout's world.

Hmmm? IIRC, the first functional individual-based night vision were the "Vampyr" near-infrared scopes developed by Ze Germanz in 1944.

More or less, yes. I'm pretty sure we had IR scopes as well. Big stuff was easy to mount on tanks. Most rifle scopes were about the size of a 2 litre soda bottle, sometimes with a big battery pack or other support equipment. A good buddy of mine is a video historian and he could tell us exactly what kind of nightscope you could make with 1950s era video tubes. Hell, he even has some of the tubes and has made night scopes himself.

The Sims, what a terrible idea. How the fucking hell could you be bothered trying to micromanage an entire town. If you wanted that buy the sims and get some bullshit mod that does that. We can't allow FO3 to be defiled by complete knobs.

For more bad idea inspiration, read any thread started by Zigzagzack or jedandjess, don't just try the Fo3 section, they tend to post them in the wrong sections.

Or zioborusky. Or osmosys. Or about 80% people who joined the forum since its founding.

I voted for RT+P combat. This would damage the gameply dynamics so severely, I'd probably not even buy the game. Although all of the other more setting oriented ideas are very stupid, like lord342 said, I could deal with a small amount of misplacement over a complete change in the fundamental aspects of gameplay.

I also agree that FOOL should perhaps be removed from the list as the focus at hand is Fallout 3. I just think that the best possible outcome of this thread would be bethsoft and the community becoming aware of what not to do and why. Now although FOOL is probably the most retarded idea I've ever heard, it seems irrelevant to our plight right now.

Yeah. And it was a total beast. Something like 30 kilos all said? I can't remember.... But there was a great novel called The Master Sniper that used it.

I don't think a real non-IR goggle came out until the 70's at the earliest.

About NVGs, I have a few good posts at The Radiated Society about the subject on their Fallout 3 forum.

As for the poll, since as you can see it's belching, I will just collect up ideas for another week or so and remake the poll.

Hi!

About that Akimbo-Idea...

I would say it IS fallout. Let me explain why:

There is a Perk (dont remember the name, but you will see what i mean when you go through your perk-list) and this Perk has a picture which shows the Pipboy shooting two handguns like a maniac, as far as i know he even jumps backwards while firing his akimbo guns (like max payne, and chow yun fat in old john woo films).

of course i dont want my fallout-char to move like max payne and do crazy jumps etc... but the two-weapon idea is part of fallout (proof = perk-image)

the reason why it was left out was possibly a technical one. it would be okay i think if the player could use dual-pistols.

but all the other ideas are really complete bullshit
(people been playin too much GTA and Morrowind (damn! the morrowind-developers have fallout  )
