Leisure Suit Larry Remake Kickstarter

Is everyone going to jump on the Kickstarter bandwagon now?

Well, some devs are gonna try their chances. If only we had this kickstarter thing some 10 years ago...I mean look at Terminal Reality, they were the guys who created Nocturne, they are also the guys who created Star Wars Kinect lately. :?

Is Kickstarter available for non USA projects? Quantic Dream should try it out too, maybe then we'll get a game from them that was not rushed like Farenheit, or mangled by the publisher like Heavy Rain.

I sure hope so. :) I wanna see a new The Longest Journey game, seriously, Ragnar Tornquist needs to start acting.

Kickstarter is not available for non USA, but there are alternatives, like indiegogo. They have less spread though.

I kind of loathe Quantic Dream and that douche David Cage. I hope they stay the hell away from this. There's no way they'd raise the money needed for their type of QTE-movies with crowdfunding, anyway.

While I agree that Cage is a complete douche he's really great at directing cutscenes.

If he stayed away from writing and "directing" in the sense of designing the gameplay I would actually like Quantic Dreams games.

Imagine a Quantic Dream game with actual gameplay, cage directed cutscenes, good writing and without unnecessary sci-fi (or whatever Cage's mentally 13 year old brain thinks of) bullshit.*

*Also without a creepy obsession for shower scenes and female charachters that don't fall hoplessly in love with the hero after meeting him 3-4 times in completly non-romantic situations.

This game was already announced and is already in development. It would have come out regardless of Kickstarter. Al Lowe is just using the hype train to make more money.

No, it wouldn't. While it was announced, they couldn't raise the needed funds (or someone backed out from the sound of Al)

Its quite clearly explained in the Kickstarter and again by Lowe.

Theres no reason to doubt their sincerity and they frequently mention other companies and certain indivuals. Lying would be suicide. (Especially because they are even supported by said companies/members like Double Fine (who they asked questions regarding Kickstarter) and Codemasters)

RPS: So how did you go from looking for investors so recently to going for a Kickstarter? I guess I have two questions, one is ‘how did you make that decision?’ and the other is ‘what would you have done without Kickstarter, what would have been happening right now?’

Al: (laughs) Paul, I should let you answer this, but I think Tim Shafer made the decision for us didn’t he? (laughs)

Paul: Yeah, we were asked by Geoff Keighley of Spike TV to come to DICE and do an interview, and so when I met Al and brought him up the escalators, Tim and Al saw each other, hugged, and I told Al about Tim’s campaign on Kickstarter, and Tim said ‘Y’know, you guys should do that with Leisure Suit Larry’, and Al said ‘Y’know, that’s a great idea’.

I'm not a huge Larry fan. He was a cute loser in the first game, but after that he turned into an annoying cocky son of a douche.
The games themselves weren't that logical or fun.
Also, I'm not feeling the art of this remake. Larry looks wrong. He should have those beady eyes. :)

Half a million is a ridiculous sum for this. Heck, there's already free software that allows people to make adventure games. I've seen fans remake Sierra games for free.

Ridiculously low, maybe. For a full-length, fully-voiced game with professional art and animation, half a million is *nothing*.

In any kind of software development, software cost is negligible compared to cost of labor.

I've seen fans remake Sierra games for free.
"Free" is a relative term. I assure you the opportunity costs to these fans, who contributed countless hours to a free game instead of making money on professional projects, easily add up to half a million dollars.

Though admittedly, the Monkey Island remake wasn't too bad. But it didn't add a ton either.
The great thing about the MI special editions was that they basically used the original art in high definition, thus keeping the charm (most of the time). The characters look a tad too cartoonish for my taste but I can live with that.

600'000 (with PayPal) is reached with 29 hours to go. It's "only" 50'000 away from its "final" (theres another at 750'000 but thats just wishful thinking) funding goal which secures the addition of a new location and other stuff.

We have already reached this:

So, here's the easier one: at the $550,000 level, we will be maxing out the game responses along the lines I suggested in my video update. Tons more jokes, tons more responses for clicking on screen features, dialogue trees, inventory-on-inventory messages, and more story! We’ll load every existing nook and cranny with extra content because, as Al pointed out to us, the original was “kinda thin” on that.
