Lonesome Road Talk (obviously spoilers)

Here's what I have to say about this DLC:

It's a mixed bag for me.
I really LOVED the art direction here, the atmosphere.
Other than that everything was quite disappointing.

Forced ED-E story and conversations, which started to annoy quite soon. I think they actually ruined the good character with this DLC. Trying to make you feel empathic towards ED-E they turned him into some childish version of R2D2 with all that trembling, scary beeping etc. And while in the main game ED-E's backstory revelation was triggered by some events which made sense, here it's just has no actual explanation (or I've missed it), he just starts playing sounds. And he does it quite frequently. Also, bringing in the Fallout 3's stupid character pissed me off. So after all that shit I totally didn't mind him dying out there.

The marked men story makes a little sense and thus is not very convincing.

The whole backstory of Ulysses and Courier felt somewhat incomplete. Maybe because because I was expecting something more than some insane philosopher tracking you down. Ulysses could be a deep character, but at this point he feels more like a cliche shades-of-gray moralist.

Elevator ride and marked men shooting frag fests were really annoying and silly. As were the exploding warheads. Reminded me of shooting the cars in Fallout 3. Sigh. Other than just plain silliness of this, it also makes you wonder how has Ulysses managed to get through without exploding them. Well, I might be nitpicking, but it is not a good game desing to my opinion.

So, this "Crowded Road" DLC is quite a good experience in terms of atmosphere, but the story and the gameplay are unremarkable at best and sometimes ruin it. It seems that many things were put in just to have some gameplay and "fun". This is where good design ends. This is where Fallout 3 with all its "cooooooool" things begins. Personally I would just love to have a totally deserted walk just exploring and getting caught on mines and traps somewhere. Maybe some enemies hiding here and there but totally not these crowds of reskinned ghouls, deatchlaws and tons of warheads.

Me too. I try hard to call it Eddie, but I somehow always forget about it. Maybe it's some motherlanguage thing or what, I do not know.

I always pronounced ED-E's name as a female's. Be it in my head or out loud. This is the first time I've heard someone calls it 'Eddie', to be honest.

They could have possibly cleaned up all the confusion based on Ullyssess if they had just added more holotapes explaining a great deal more. Maybe they could have been left behind as to give the courier an incentive to return to the divide in the Vanilla game. I would have enjoyed if there were secret holotapes hidden throughout the mojave such as at Wolfhorn Ranch and other places that Ullyssess might have passed through. It seems illogical to me that Ullyssess is sort of like Boone in a sense. Caught up in the ideals of the world they used to follow...not letting go of the past. I would have liked for maybe a special perk that you got for talking Ullyssess down, such as Boone with his side quest.

What I don't understand is what happened to the Big Mountain tie-in? Some of his in-game logs mention the machines that raked the Divide with lighting and such. What happened to this plot point?

I think he was refering to the technology of the old world but to get a good idea of what you're talking about I'll go listen to the Big MT logs.

I have had a discussion with my friend Hassknecht about that as we both also expected to find the weather station that created the storms of the Divide along our journey, and the obvious connections to Big MT.

Only (weak) explanation I can give you was that the meteorological laboratory at Big MT was the weather station that Ulysses mentioned.

Edit: the only tie in to the Big MT is a computer record telling that some general and his staff from the facility is coming to visit.

So in a fight between Joshua Graham and Ulysses, who'd you think would have come out on top?

I mean, I heard Ulysses tell me he "could've," to which I would have said: "I don't know, he does have 50 DT and can crit-shot a White Legs from 200 ft away.

Joshua Graham easy.

Speaking of both of em, it was fun to tell them both I had killed Caesar. Ulysses in particular goes pretty indepth on talking about the Legate and why he is now, if anything, a bigger immediate threat.

... now that you mention it, I knew I'd seen Joshua Graham before...

Anyway, My vote is also for Graham. Ulysses is pretty neat, but he doesn't quite exude that Tall Tale kind of aura of legend about him.

(I also recommend this mod for making Graham look even more badass: Authentic Burned Man

I'm going through a new playthrough since having downloaded LR and I noticed something new. Vanilla ED-E is a workbench and ammo bench from the get-go. Interesting. I guess I wont have to use Veronica any longer.

But Veronica has spunk!

I still want to know where it says that the original detonator is of Enclave origin... maybe I need to explore more?

Ulysses strongly implies it, though I'm not sure it was ever flat out mentioned that it was Enclave. He probably doesn't even know what the Enclave is being from the East.

I don't know where else a hi-tech explosive detonator with old world symbols on it would come from, or who else would know about the nuclear warheads in the Divide for that matter.

yeah it was enclave. ulysses said it matched the american flags in the divide very closely, but not exact. take a look at enclave symbol, they are similar :0

Am I the only one who thought that the original detonator might have been ED-E?

Bring in package from (Insert city ED-E's been in here), give to scientist here, prewar machines bring ED-E back to life (Having been broken at some point again) Uses his ability to set off the warheads (As he clearly has) and gets blasted near to Primm, where you find him.

Yes, I've speculated on another forum aswell that it might have been another eyebot simply. This would explain why they are there in the divide in the first place and why Ulysses needs your one to start the nukes..
