Different countries, different attitudes. In the Netherlands most store chains that have DVDs (and games) will carry porn, no problem.

The US just has a different attitude and expectations towards its store chains.

Well, things like that make me feel disappointed every time they say there will be end of the world, but it doesn't happen.

It makes little sense that 17+ rating in the US would equate to 18+ over here, and a 18+ "rating" would be "BAN THAT FILTH".

I love how in the US, any game can be horribly gory, with guts and gibs flying everywhere, and get an M, but if it has but ONE TINY nipple slip, the game gets thrashed. The United States has a funny attitude towards sex.
 
Oddly enough we Dutch have the same tradition of Puritanism from a few centuries back, but we just kinda dropped it and went crazy a few decades ago.

not on every front though. dutchies can be very tightassed about some issues, surprisingly.
 
Strange, when you kill in most of games, seem like there its nothing wrong with that. Probably because without killing most of games become impossible, so nobody is unable to censore it. Imagine Fallout 4 where everything is censored, and you only walk and talk.

Cimeran--The prostitues are handeled the same as in FO2, the screen blacks out. All they said is you can't be a porn star...oh dang
 
Of course the tribal girls were completely nude! What pants? That's just hairy legs. Get your pixels straight. :wink:

Oh and when you put power armor on it's see-through. It gives your character's skin a gray tint though so it's hard to tell.

And the smileys here are all naked, but have gray or black bodies randomly so they blend in with the background...

Okay I guess I should stop poking fun now. :P
 
I always thought that killing someone is much more hideous crime then whoring, but then it must be just me. Its funny how nobody complains about gore effects of F3 and if there was some lesbian action public and Fox news would be all over it. Its interesting that Fallout 2 ,almost ten years after its release, is a game that today nobody would either make it or market it.

Here's a front and back shot of a newly created female PC in Fallout 2:

The front certainly looks like it could have bare breasts, but if you'll look at the back, you can clearly see a horizontal band across her back, about level with her breasts. The only conclusions I can come up with are that she has some sort of awkward tattoo back there, an unfortunate spine and ribcage problem, or she's covered by a crude bra and in the front it blends in a little too well due to the lighting and limited colors.

Well done with the graphic. Yeah, it is a top. But that tan/brown bra was allways a bit iffy. I almost got in trouble with my mom back when F1 came out because she glanced at the game and thought they were topless as well. Had to point out the line on the back at that time as well. I still don't think she was happy about it though.


I'm not too surprised about the censorship thing. Fallouts 1 and 2 were Interplay while 3 is Bethesda. Expecting Beth to go out on a limb or do something exciting or unexpected is a fools game. Look at Oblivion. They dropped and added stuff for the sole reason of making it easier to play than Morrowind, and Fallout 3's looking to follow suite. Everything they've been doing seems to be towards making it a much easier game than its' predecessors.

As for the AO rating of death. Yeah it's a lame policy. Not that you can get that rating, because come on, there's nothing wrong with that. There are those game that you play and you can think "yeah, kids shouldn't be playing something like this". The lame part is that no one'll carry the damned things in stores if it carries that title. Which is like Wallmart saying "we wont sell any movies rated R." That's one of my real hopes about digital distribution. If you can cut out the stores you leave room for all sorts of work to come out and prosper.

Went to - PC Game Fun Time - and read the article and then the comments.

Noticed the lack of : the loss of Real Life ballistics simulation, euphemistically crowned as "Friendly Fire".

So commented.

Don't know if there is 'friendly fire' in any form in B-soft's FO3.
'Friendly fire' may not be suitable to FPS combat simulations for the present market, nor may it be technically possible.

The coding may be too hard, (FOT had some supernatural trajectories for the 50 cal. mg), and the target audience may be too immature for Real Life ballistics.

Friendly fire in FO1+2 could kill innocent bystanders. Fire fights in Den, the home of the Dickens' like little thieves, could hit any one, including kids.

(How these little thieves deserved death, when the dirt poor PC stole everything not nailed down to get to the Den, ... well, karma different in your time zone?)

A little planning, a little patience, a little maneuvering to spread out the fire team, paid off in fewer friend inflicted casualties.

Guess that sort of ownership of responsibility can't be as big a unit sales accelerator as the kills per second per second of nex gen FPS's.

Maybe in B-soft's FO4? Some fire arm safety skills -- sponsored by the NRA?

Thats one of the advantages that indie games and mods have. Most of them dont give a shit about ratings and they can put in it whatever they want.
