Lost opportunities for Fallout 3

How childish is this? QQing about no pornstar status, like it's been in all Fallouts ever... lol.

Though seduction was a sizable part of the previous games, and I hope it is in the new game.

That's weird. Here in Poland somehow we have porn magazines in almost every store that carries any magazine and newspapers, including store chains and no one complains.

Same here in Serbia and no one complains. People have other things to worry about then nudity and porn. It won't kill you. It's part of life. Better porn than daily newspapers talking about politics or sport ruffians if you ask me. But tell that to worried mother's of America. It's easier to let other people worry about the education of your children. They don't have time

Censorship in any form is bad. Take a little here, take a little there and before you know it you're left with nothing but most bland 'entertainment'.

At what point will anyone start making games for adults? And when will people stop trying to ban games?

Once parents realize that the video games have ratings. Most parents would go to the store and buy little Johnny who just turned 9 their next must have M rated game without knowing a thing about it. I've been at EB Games with kids just crying for their games and their parents just don't know better.

Then comes the kicker that it's the video game that ruins the kid. Not the parents; for they are infallible... All sarcasm aside, it's not hard to educate people a little bit about what kind of games certain people should be playing.

My final project during my senior year in high school was about violence in media (especially video games), the effect on various age groups, censorship, and where responsibility lay. The infallible parent mentality is something I went into at length, and it's really disgusting that a form of entertainment that young children should not have had access to to begin with is used as such a convenient scapegoat . If I still have the essay, I'll dig it up for anyone who's interested.

EDIT: I hope I still have it, I worked for two months on that damn thing (and got a 96%, woo!). It's been a few years, and I might have lost it during my last move, though. Ugh.

EDIT EDIT: Nope, I don't think I have it. Balls. Maybe I'll write up another one in the coming months, since I have a severe lack of things worth doing.

Nudity and becoming a pornstar shouldn't be censored or monitored? Should be on every channel on TV or it isn't right!!!!

Moron, kids don't need to see that kind of stuff, especially interactively, yes even 17 year olds, any age really. It doesn't need to happen in a MA game, go play the AO games if you NEED to have this. It isn't even up for arguement.

Freedom of speech, good. freedom to do whatever you want to do where ever you want to do it and not having rating systems, bad

*sigh* Nudity & becoming a pornstar shouldn't be censored in adult games. The problem is we don't really have adult games and every time someone tries to make one they get screamed at & the game is banned in alot of places.

I'm really really really tired of the arguement "Think of the children". Here's a thought if you actually cared about your children you would spend time with them instead of letting the govenment police them.

In the 80s people were talking about how music & RPGs (Pen & Paper) were the devil and going to corrupt our children. My parents took the time to actually listen to the music I was buying & read the RPG books. Hell my mother actually ran several of my games just to be sure she understood what it was all about.

When I talk to people in their 20s or younger I just don't hear the same amount of attention given to them.

editted for quote pyramids.

Its a mature game not a adult game. MA not AO. There is not an argument. Difference between R rating and Adult rating.

The only thing that you could argue is that Bethesda should have made a AO game and screwed the sales...

the problem is not with the content, but the rating system. The games system are scaled one tier back. So a movie that got away with a pg13 for content *cough cough* Darknight *cough* would easily be rated M.

Till games are not perceived 'for kids' this will not change even when they are already rated M.

But curiously nobody at walmart ever bats an eye at a kid buying the Diablo battle chest(succubus from the first were nude). So I suppose as soon as second life becomes too far behind in technology nobody will care.

Why is it inappropriate for children to see nudity and sex? Why is it more inappropriate for children to see nudity and sex than it is for them to see violence? Why is it anyone's responsibility other than the parents at what their children play and view?

Sex and nudity aren't AO topics (a pornographic game would be though), they are, at worst, Mature topics and easily Teen topics (depends on how the explicitly the sex is depicted).

Mature rated games are for adults, not children. Also, R rated movies have nudity, some PG-13 movies have nudity. This non argument boils down to taking responsibility for what your children and of course yourself watch, play, or otherwise take part of. Offended by something? Can't do something without harming yourself or those around you? Don't participate in it. Its the minority of irresponsible fuckwits that ruin life for everyone else because of this attitude about handling an otherwise simple problem with prohibition.

You're an excellent poster child for the average sexually repressed American.

Incredibly realistic blood, gore and violence (MA) is fine, but flash a titty (AO) or make any sexual reference and you people freak the fuck out. Despite popular belief, nudity isn't going to make little johnny go to school with a gun and clip his schoolmates.

Go rent A Clockwork Orange (R) and then watch any generic porno (X). Now tell me which one you'd rather have your kids watch.

Actually ESRB has a much more solid and consistent rating system than the MPAA as they have rules and a written standard which they use to rate games while the MPAA is run by neo-conservative fundamentalist Christians who are neither consistent nor have rating guidelines. The MPAA rates movies however they wish for whatever reasons they wish which if the ESRB did, congress would likely through a fit (the last one they said create a ratings board or they'll create one for the industry).

Which still doesn't say much, since you can't get less solid and consistent than the MPAA.

I watched Clockwork orange fairly young and i must say i really felt confused after it.

I also saw porno at a young age but that didn't affect me negatively...

Censorship in a game boils down to: "You can't show the exterior of a boob but if you want you can see the insides once you blow her up with a rpg"

What's the big deal, is it all that hard to mod those small fixes into the game via some patch? I don't know anything about modding, but for nudity it could just be a matter of replacing a couple textures, for child killing it could be removing a line of code, and for hookers / doing drugs same thing?

will the game ship with any modding tools at all?

any thoughts?

Not quite. If something isn't implemented at all, you'd have to mod it in yourself completely. The children might simply have the "essential" tag, which makes them simply pass out whenever they lose all their health points. That would be easy enough to remove with the proper tools. However, they also might be lacking resources for their deaths - say, gibs, animations, XP value... It depends on how their invulnerability is implemented.

In fact, I don't know if you can even target and attack child NPCs.

No. They might be released afterward, as was Oblivion's tools, but AFAIK there's no official word about it.

ALSO: I'll tell ya what opportunity Fallout 3 lost: being purchased by me. Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Kids these days  . They have access to porn, sexual education, and things like that. When I was a kid, I didn't have the "internet" thing, I had to use my imagination.

Anyway, I don't think that Fallout/Fallout 2 is appropriate for children, but I would say that it's <strike>mandatory</strike> appropriate for teenagers.

Thats one of the advantages that indie games and mods have. Most of them dont give a shit about ratings and they can put in it whatever they want.
Tell that to creators of F.A.T.A.L. :P .
