Though seduction was a sizable part of the previous games, and I hope it is in the new game.

My final project during my senior year in high school was about violence in media (especially video games), the effect on various age groups, censorship, and where responsibility lay. The infallible parent mentality is something I went into at length, and it's really disgusting that a form of entertainment that young children should not have had access to to begin with is used as such a convenient scapegoat . If I still have the essay, I'll dig it up for anyone who's interested.Sicblades said:Then comes the kicker that it's the video game that ruins the kid. Not the parents; for they are infallible...

Censorship in any form is bad. Take a little here, take a little there and before you know it you're left with nothing but most bland 'entertainment'.

Moron, kids don't need to see that kind of stuff, especially interactively, yes even 17 year olds, any age really. It doesn't need to happen in a MA game, go play the AO games if you NEED to have this. It isn't even up for arguement.
Freedom of speech, good. freedom to do whatever you want to do where ever you want to do it and not having rating systems, bad
Why is it inappropriate for children to see nudity and sex? Why is it more inappropriate for children to see nudity and sex than it is for them to see violence? Why is it anyone's responsibility other than the parents at what their children play and view?Humpsalot said:Nudity and becoming a pornstar shouldn't be censored or monitored? Mature rated games are for adults, not children. Also, R rated movies have nudity, some PG-13 movies have nudity. This non argument boils down to taking responsibility for what your children and of course yourself watch, play, or otherwise take part of. Offended by something? Can't do something without harming yourself or those around you? Don't participate in it. Its the minority of irresponsible fuckwits that ruin life for everyone else because of this attitude about handling an otherwise simple problem with prohibition.Humpsalot said:Its a mature game not a adult game. Actually ESRB has a much more solid and consistent rating system than the MPAA as they have rules and a written standard which they use to rate games while the MPAA is run by neo-conservative fundamentalist Christians who are neither consistent nor have rating guidelines. The MPAA rates movies however they wish for whatever reasons they wish which if the ESRB did, congress would likely through a fit (the last one they said create a ratings board or they'll create one for the industry).KilllessInSeattle said:the problem is not with the content, but the rating system. The games system are scaled one tier back. So a movie that got away with a pg13 for content *cough cough* Darknight *cough* would easily be rated M.
Till games are not perceived 'for kids' this will not change even when they are already rated M.
But curiously nobody at walmart ever bats an eye at a kid buying the Diablo battle chest(succubus from the first were nude). So I suppose as soon as second life becomes too far behind in technology nobody will care.

Not quite. If something isn't implemented at all, you'd have to mod it in yourself completely. The children might simply have the "essential" tag, which makes them simply pass out whenever they lose all their health points. That would be easy enough to remove with the proper tools. However, they also might be lacking resources for their deaths - say, gibs, animations, XP value... It depends on how their invulnerability is implemented.Culturecide said:...for child killing it could be removing a line of code, and for hookers / doing drugs same thing?
No. They might be released afterward, as was Oblivion's tools, but AFAIK there's no official word about it.Culturecide said:will the game ship with any modding tools at all?

Tell that to creators of F.A.T.A.L.MapMan said:Thats one of the advantages that indie games and mods have. Most of them dont give a shit about ratings and they can put in it whatever they want.
