Mafia 2

In one of the videos that i watched some time ago, one of the developers said that the driving mechanics will be heavily simplified, since many people criticized it, in the first one, as being too difficult  . So now it will feel more like GTA, which is very frustrating, because a major part of the appeal, for me, came from the driving part :wall: .

This might be good, but i just don't think it will even come close to the first one, at least from what i gathered until now.

I thought I read somewhere in their forums that they were going to have two different modes for driving? I.e. Arcade or "More realistic".

Atleast I hope they do so, I really would'nt appreciate the driving portions of the game with GTA style arcade driving.

And on another note, I do hope there will be some way to stop vehicles from exploding - hate that.

actualy what I miss in many games with cars are gears though ... I mean it really kills any kind of "realistic" driving feeling cause the cars in most games have either "fast" or "stop" ... which I find somewhat ridiculous

um, have you played any racing games? I don't think I've played a single racing game where you can't change gears.

There are some annoying murmurs around the 2K forum about Mafia 2 not having any real gearchanging, wich'll be of great annoyance to me, I quite like those lil' details and it can't be that much work to have them ingame and letting people that want automatic gearboxes use an automatic setting.

Can't wait. I have played Mafia so many times. Although, the speed limit was very annoying at times.

I thought it made the game somewhat realistic, I can't say I really enjoyed it, but, can't say that driving high speed on the wrong lane right before the police eyes in GTA pleases me too

well since they used cars from the 30s ... they havnt been for their speed really. On the other side ... its a game.

Sorry I am not much in to racing games. Yeah they might have it. Maybe I should have been more specific. I meant games which feature vehicles (but dont make a racing game out of it), like dunno Arma II or anything similar. Also Mafia, GTA etc.

Its really anyoing to not have it cause it makes it very hard to stay on roads or with the usual traffic cause you always have to stop-drive-stop-drive-stop-drive to get around very narrow parts of the street or just keep up with the other vehicles. Kinda anyoing if you ask me.

I mean why not doing it like Red Orchestra (~someone know that game?) where you had no gears but could regulate the speed of your vehicle. If you preshed the button your speed would increase till it reached either your desired speed or the maximum the vehicle could drive. And it would hold the speed you have set. Very comfortable. And it allows you to drive with your tank in a way to keep up with the advancing infantry (its a WW2 multiplayer game) as you could adapt to their speed.

I did'nt have any problems with the digital kind of manouvering the car since I used an steeringwheel myself, but I see your point. Don't know how they'll handle things this time around with throttle and brake controls though.

I suppose the cheapest sollution to that would be to use a joystick if you have that.

While I have'nt found any official words on it, it seems gearchanging is'nt in the game, I watched this video of what I assume is a developer showing Arcade vs Simulation handling, but I can't understand a word he says.

The official word about exploshunz (Cars specifically) is that you can't turn it off according to Elizabeth2K, wich made me go;

yeah exploding cars get boring fast. But realistic representation of damage can be entertaining.

Meh, color me slightly dissapointed.

Hey there,

There won't be gear changing in the game, but simulation is definitely more technical than our normal mode.

I'm going to miss that part from the former game.

Made by a Czech team, which is why I jumped on the first one (it's my home country). The English dubbing was superb - way better than the Czech, which attempted to employ famous Czech screen actors... It was bad, seeing as some of them (in spite of their popularity on screen) had no dubbing experience.

I loved the driving though - very 'realistic' feel. What the fuck do I know about how it really feels to slide a 50's car across cobblestones, but it felt good anyway.

The character movement was a bit strange - crouching and aiming was a bit stiff and you couldn't even jump over a hedge! I hope they give it a bit more realism in the sequel. Otherwise it looks like another wicked title!

I dono why i'm not excited..... but the original MAFIA was one of the few games I EVER played to finish. So that is huge.

Hell, i still havent seen the ending of fallout 2, and i must have started 50 characters. And they are my favorite games of all time.

Oh yeah, just in time for my laptop to get back from repair! Can't wait!

(Goddamn job interview, couldn't come at a worse time...)

First review (PC Zone) gave it an 80%. Words "extreme linearity" and "10 hours" were tossed as complaints. Everything else, praised. Hypothesis: reviewer did not play Mafia 1.
