Mafia 2

But hey, it figures since it was made by a bunch of racist misogynists from Eastern Europe. Typical Eastern Europee, really.

Dude, that's... stereotypical and racist?

Whatever, it's down to semantics now. You guys must be right - the damn ignorant/racist/sexist Eastern European writers have gone and made a racist game.

I haven't yet played the game but I think I get what Brother None and others who have played the game are saying, especially when it's already been pointed out that the game isn't really great story-wise. Often with a bad game other bad aspects such as stereotypical characters etc. tend to stick out more.

I'll still give some benefit of doubt to the makers and hope that their attempt wasn't to make a racist game but that it just sort of turned out like that.

Edit. Or maybe you guys are just joking about the whole thing, duh.

[Seeing as half the discussion about racism / Eastern Europe / PC semantics got Vatted for no reason, I'm assuming it's over now and we're leaving it at that.]

So, I didn't know you needed Steam to play the game - my brother just received the collector's edition, but can't play it as he's recently moved to a new house and hasn't got Internet set up yet. :( :(

I havnt played the game but I can only assume. If for example a game is showing a chracter which is thinking about the black people only in stereotypes it has a racistic NPC. But if the game is showing all black people only in sterotypes actualy the game is racistic. At some point. Of course just what I think. No clue how the game is.

I hate mafia 2 and I can't believe anyone that played mafia 1 and loved it can like mafia 2. It sucked, it had dumb characters, it was predictable all the time.
Open World is a lie. You can only drive around in a world and find new clothing shops, fucking great.
Also, weapon shops make me feel like in GTA, same for car chop shops.
The only good part/character I've found in Mafia 2 was Henry Tomasino, until the point the developers decided to make him a snitch...why didn't they throw that stupid idea on Joe and then butcher him with asians in the middle of the street.

I'm also amused by the fact that at the start of the game even a dog shit lying around is doing something original. 10 out of 10 people are doing unique actions. 2 people look above at a window where another girl is watching down on, someone breaks a window, someone sells newspapers at a stand, an old lady talks to you, people shut doors in the building you live when you walk near them, cat jumps out the window etc etc. Then you get nothing...AI in the traffic go straight into you, crashing your car.

Joe and Marty guys are the most retarded pieces of shit I ever encountered in shitty characters.

Vito is blank and he's a moron.
Pretty much every character is dumbed down, Vito and his sister: "Please Vito, leave us alone now(she and her husband).
Okay, but if he touches you again I kill him.
Oh noes you're an animal, fuck you stay away from me."
It was one of the moments I face-slapped myself and smacked the desk fifty times, one of the other times being when Joe got drunk because of that stupid Marty guy or whatever. Who the fuck is he and why would he give a shit? Seriously.

Once again, the only character that had a little bit of substance was Henry, but developers made sure to deliver a retarded ending for him too.

Other than that, combat was shit. Cars and driving was meh, worse than Mafia 1 in my opinion.

Mafia 1 was an slowly paced drama with distinctive characters, incredible plot, atmosphere, cars...after all it was a game that started with you being a taxi driver and then getting introduced to the elements of the mafia while you can enjoy good voice acting, an epic story and memorable quotes to live by.
I couldn't get enough of mafia 1 ending.

Hmm, seems like the consensus is that Mafia 2 kinda blows. Sad, really.

What I don't seem to understand that, especially with these sequels, the plot and story and basically everything that isn't related to the graphics/sound/technicalities of the game tend to fall short of great or even good/adequate.

I mean, these game companies hire guys to do the 'heavy lifting' meaning the graphics etc. and then can't hire anyone to actually tell them what the story/playability/etc. should be? I find that very strange. I'm sure to an extent it's a question of money, they don't have the resources to say "what you've done so far is crap, do it all over again", or even just "flesh out this part of the game more", "the AI sucks, make it better" etc.

Hope the modders will save the game by the time I get it. :)

There's already a DLC out, worth 8 euros, which is IMO a major disappointment: shit like that should be for free in a game that has so little to offer quest-wise.

After playing Jimmy's Revenge a bit, I conclude that Mafia 2 is the biggest engine waste ever. There's just so many things you could do with it, but all you get is some lame run and gun action with a weak storyline. And the DLC consists of either custom clothing or 30 mission where all you do is drive and kill on time.

Bleh, fuck this game.

Indeed.

What's worse is that they screwed Mafia 1 by putting some phrases in between the loading screens of Thomas Angelo, the main char in mafia 1 that were never told in Mafia 1 (not all). The problem is that they are shit and really have no meaning..other than screwing with the original.

[spoiler:e1d92e36a5] Killing Tommy with Vito and Joe was the best part of the game, mainly because it reminded me of how good that ending scene was, in mafia 1 of course, in 2 they didn't even leave a moment of nostalgia, they just thought "If we already shown that Thomas' killers were Joe and Vito let's just move on with the shitty game. I was surprised to see it priced, I thought I'd heard it would be free.

I'm not buying DLC. Not for any game. But definitely not for this one.

Indeed. I consider DLC like that a stab in the back.

So far, every DLC for every game I've ever played has been both incredibly unrewarding and (over)priced, except for Left4Dead, where you get awesome free DLCs every week. That's the way it should be.

I find it lazy and a bit cheeky, considering most of the DLCs have obviously been made before the vanilla release and are more like "what should have been in the game in the first place."

Well.. GTA 4 episodes Lost and Damned and Ballad Of Gay Tony were DLC's at one point and I highly enjoyed those, especially the latter. If I were to choose a quality standard for DLC's, I'd definitely go with those.

That's a game not DLC as far as I know, the game is called GTA IV Episodes from Liberty City
