Max Payne movie trailer

I wouldn't consider him an "old wise black dude" in Robin Hood. I mean, he is a wise old black dude, but... well. Shit.

He has a sword?

You win.

The trailer looks, ok, could be worse. They seem to be keeping the dark and dank look of the games, which is a good start. I'm not too sure about Beau Bridges as B.B. and Ludacris as Jim Bravura. For some reason Ludacris doesn't scream out old, angry, stereotypical police chief, which is the feeling that one gets from the game's potrayal of Jim. As for Beau, he's too nice to play the man who stabs Max in the back.

I think Bravura is an internal affairs officer as opposed to the chief of police in this one.

So I finally assed myself up enough to reinstall Max Payne and play through the rest of it (Getting it running on Vista was a whore and a half).

I still don't see how those flying monsters fit in at all (Are they in MP 2 or something?).

They don't look like something that'd be caused by valkyr hallucinations (He withdrew into his mind and replayed his wife/baby's death over and over... nothing like flying demons breaking through skyscrapers).

Yeah, those things confused me too. They probably are valkyr halucinations though, I mean what else could they be?

So they must be changing the story? I would expect it to change, but I'm not sure what good Jim will do as an IA agent. As for the monsters, the seem like angels, but dark, so all that comes to mind is fallen angels, and the only way to fit them in is in a vakyr hallucination, so that must be that. I assume.

The winged monsters are confirmed to be hallucinations caused by valkyr. Apparently Max is on valkyr during the final shootout at Aesir.

I got also confused of those damn death angels or somethings. They really dont fit in the Max payne atmosphere cause it supposed to be like dark and realistic type of a world. Also putting the black guy as Bravura was just bullshit. They have to do a bigger make up and a surgery than they never made to Michael Jackson to make this guy look like Bravura. Lets not lose our hope and look up for it :)

E: So the monsters are just hallusinations? Great! But i would perfer something else than angels ..

Ah now, there's no need to go saying anything 'cause he's black. He might pull it off. It's just that in my opinion Ludacris is not the right person for the job, but i have seen some unusual castings pay off, so only time will tell.
I'm happy now about v hallucinations, kinda fits in, didn't Nicole give Max a shot of it before he left the mansion?

Well "Hitchhiker's" is no comparison to "Max Payne", however Ford Prefect could just as well have been black, no reason why not, plenty in England, and I'm sure that by galactic standards it isn't that odd.
There are points though, but maybe they're completely changing the character of Jim? It's an adaptation after all, not a copy.

Except that the book says he's a ginger-headed white bloke.

Also, he's not from a small planet in the vicinity of Betelgeuse, not Guildford at all.

I have no problem with people looking at creative ways to adapt between media, such as the addition of angelic visions to Max Payne, but making a white character black is just pointless.

Nothing wrong with a little creative license. So he doesn't look just like him, whatever. I thought Mos Def did a fine job. That movie was mediocre as a whole, though.

Well all I can say is adaptation.

In my opinion i don't think Jim is gonna be anywhere near the same person that is in the games, as in this he is apparently an IA agent, not deputy chief of police. Maybe they are simply keeping the name so that fans of the game might remember the characters easier?

Being black is not just "not looking just like him", it's a fairly noticeable physical trait, like being old or being a woman. No need for any amount of PC to block that fact.

Creative license is creative license. It's deciding Marvin is now a short, big-headed robot instead of the more classical adoption of the figure, because you feel it expresses the character better.

Turning someone black isn't being "creative" - it doesn't impact the concerned figure other than that he has physical traits he shouldn't have. Might as well make Ford really old and say it's creative license. No sense to it, for whatever motives these guys think they have for it.

The trailer looks decent. I don't really like the actor playing Max Payne. His hair is all wrong.

Sorry Bux no pun intended.

To make it short... Max's hair is not greasy enough.
