MIB88 MegaMod - opinions, technical issues, etc.

No, I started a game with the clean install first, to see if everything was working ok there. When I modded over that save showed as an old version. I did another uninstall-reinstall after that first mod attempt, and copied everything from the mod into the game folders before trying it out. Oh, and it does save some info when I save, but the game doesn't try to read it or something. Still, I'm guessing something fishy with the parsing. The premade character names were showing up as gibberish.

Read the very beginning of this thread. There was a person who was having issues due to the installation of the mod. Maybe you should uninstall the game, and then reinstall to a brand new location. I really am fresh out of ideas. And this is something that is unique to you. No one else has reported having this issue with the newest version. Good luck.

Edit: As for the 'gibberish' with the premade characters, I have had that there since the beginning, ever since I started with the New Vision mod. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to fixing that...
 
The fresh location did it. I don't get it though, every uninstall I made sure to delete the BlackIsle folder. Strange problem.
 
I think I found a bug in this latest version. In all previous versions of MegaMod with New Vision, and yes I've played just about every version, when you try the bad karma solution to 'finding' Smiley and getting the trapper town key, after you've gotten the note from Golden Gecko's bartender, he directs you to take it to Sajag who will teach you how to skin geckos. In this version, even if you have the note and completed the previous steps, Sajag will just have the floating head dialog, not extended, and there is no way to continue the quest.

Just installed fresh version of FO2 (1.02 UK version) and the kids patch, put all the folders of the v2.0 megamod into data and Fallout2.exe into the main directory, checked protos were set to read only.

However, when I try to run the game it crashes my computer and restarts at random times. For example during the Create Character screen and during the first map. I got it to work for a while whilst I had Klint and got up to the Black Scorpion but then died and so lost that char. Can you explain?

Righto! Some bugs to report here...

Scrapheap area - the font is all messed up (size, color and type) and some important NPCs just say "ERROR" and then displays your reply options. Can't say I've managed to scroll other NPC messages there either, and the exit grid is... kinda screwed up, but it works. One of the front gate guards are wandering at random, sometimes really far off into the exit grid and the like.

If you save your game in a non-original random encounter (like me - a trapper encounter) and try to load it... well, it' won't. It just says unable to load or something.

If you "look" at Phil in Klamath, the game crashes. You know, the midget card player guy.

If teaming with Tyler's gang in the Den, the game will crash just after you (the player) fire the first shot. If you side with Lara, it won't crash. This happened for me once.

Golden geckos (in the toxic caverns for example) are perhaps a tad bit too damage resistant. I mean, taking 2-3 damage per shot? That's gonna wear down your ammo supply pretty quick.

In random encounters the radscorpions won't attack until you kill the cockroach.

Rename your patch0000.dat (?) file to something else and try again :) I had that same problem.

The deal with the encounters is something I don't know how to fix. They attack in groups. Once all of one group is dead, then the others attack. That is no different than other encounters, if you have ever played the game you would see this. For example, all the wild dogs attack before the slavers attack, unless you happen to hit a slaver.

I don't plan on changing anything with the golden geckos. Maybe this was put in in New Vision 2. I don't know. But I like a challenge. I never even really noticed that before.

I will look into the issue with Phil.

I will look into the deal with the gangs. However, you said this happened once. Did you only try this once, or did it crash only one time in several?
 
I can confirm the Phil bug Shigen mentioned. And although I didn't have the same problem with radscorpions and cockroaches, the game did crash in the middle of combat with the cockroach.

Only tried it once.

But! I got another issue... *none* of my savegames will work anymore. Didn't have that issue before I restarted the computer. Protos on read-only, everything the way it should be. Still... nothing. I haven't changed the files either. Will try to play around and see what happens.

Edit: Scraptown seems to be the reason. After visiting the area, no savegames will load again, ever.
 
That's actually a good thing. I am by no means an expert at this but I think I know how to fix your game. One of the things MegaMod includes is the latest US patch, so by running a european version game with a UK patch, then installing MegaMod, your actually putting the US patch on the euro game, which probably would cause problems. What you need to do is put in the UK patch after you install MegaMod, thereby overwriting the US patch.

In other words, do a clean reinstall, just like you did before, except only put the UK patch in after you put in MegaMod, and all shall be hunky-dory.

Edit: Ok on second thought I'm not sure if patches overwrite everything, so this may not work. It might. But I am sure this is the problem, if not the solution.

Not really. Got the UK version too, patched to 1.02 -> 1.05_1 and then MegaMod on top of it. He not having the patch file indicates he hasn't installed the 1.02 first. Do that after a fresh install or on your original data folder.
 
In pip boy on the quests screen before arroyo it appears "Error" and if you press a new "Error" line apears.

I guess it's the temple of trials quest?

I also find some dialogues too heavy, with much to say. In "normal" you usually only have a big option with a big text not 3 or 4 options.


btw

1 - someone can tell me how to go underground on klamath?

2 - Torr only has the job of the bottles "quest"? What happened to the original ones? And the other whiskey bob quests?

3 - What's the fork for? And the food containers?

4 - After the arroyo guy teach me how to sharpen spears and give me the flint, how do i sharp them? Can't find the way.

I have UK version. I install fresh copy, then 1.02 patch, then MegaMod (I delete patch000.dat and replace fallout2.exe, as told in readme). Then I start new game, use premade character, Elder speech and TeamX movie are fine. When I enter the Temple, the refreshing problems occur (ghost images on black background).
I also tried applying MegaMod to fresh install, without the 1.02 patch, and to 1.051 unofficial patch. Didn't worked... Oh, also tried to do what H-K and Shigen said - with no luck.

Anyone have some ideas? Because I want to play this awesome mod! :D

OK, people. Listen up. I will only say this once. I put this stuff together using the US version. It contains the original US version patch 1.02. If you are using the UK version, or any other version, then I probably can't help you. I don't know if there are differences between them. I have no idea what was in those other version patches, nor if one version is completely compatible with another country's. That might be the source of your problems.
All of you who have recently downloaded this who are having problems, did you even play the first version? Did you get those to work?

And to Shigen: the fact that the readme file from the 1.02 patch is in the readme folder indicates that I have used the official 1.02 patch in this mod.
 
The main difrence between the US and UK version is that the UK version doesn't include children. So far I never encounted unuseable bugs using patches for the US versions. So your mod should run just fine even with the UK version.

Maybe people with the UK version need to install the latest US patch first, followed by installing the children patch. After that they should install your mod.

No, that is what I just said above. The 1.02 patch is already in the mod.
 
Won't it cause any conflict with versions that already have patch 1.2 on there version?

I know that the patch000.dat contains the patch, but aren't there version that have gotten the patch data combined in there master.dat file? Well.... I guess it's not your fault that some peopel are struggling to get your mod working. It might be useful to edit the first post and keep it updated with solutions for problems. Maybe you wouldn't get the same "i can't get it to work" question over and over again.

I going the try your mod soon when i got the time. A superb job on getting scrapheap in fallout 2. The messed up font is something i can live with :)

After that, click on your player right mouse button and select to view him (binoculars)
