most overrated movies?

Frozen was just very generic.
It's not my sort of film anyway, so it had a lot to do to impress me but one could make a case for it being different.

I'll say everything up to the last 20 minutes generally impressed me and then the ending just threw it all away.

It had something going for it and just dashed away any enjoyability the film had at the last minute.

Saw some good points about Seven, where it does milk certain tropes to death, like Brad being the impatient young cop, and the magic negro being all magic negro, and some of their philosophical chats do not sound very authentic, the way they actually deliver them, through dialog, especially that chat in the bar, it sounds chopped up and weirdly rehearsed, and not something that would be spoken naturally

that said, the wrapping of the movie, the atmosphere - and indeed, the acting, makes it... not matter so much. The tropes sortof fit into the genre, just like the Godfather is just cliche after cliche, but they all fit so perfectly, nobody minds

Every Johnny Depp movie except for Dead Man. Depp is a great actor but he gets way too much credit.
The Fast and Furious movies. I love the action but the story is always weak.
Moana. Very good Disney flick but its starting to become the next Frozen in how annoying it can get.

I think a lot of movies are grossly overrated. Inception for example, I guessed the entire plot 5 minutes in and was not at all entertained by it.

I have to agree with Frozen, generic and not very interesting.

However to prevent my post from being super negative, might I suggest some movies I rather enjoyed.
BFG (Big friendly Giant) in my opinion was very well told and made.
Trolls was a surprisingly good watch.

And to finish this off 1 movie I always felt was way underrated, Starship Trooopers. Some hate it, some love it. I'm one of the ones who actually understood the satire.

Isn't that like being disappointed because the Plumber fucked the Woman too quickly without much sexual tension in a porno?

It's just porn, people want the action, not the story.

Doesn't excuse the fact that the F&F formula is bad. Take John Wick for example: It had a good story and outstanding action.

It's not overrated. You can tell because no one brings it up except to mention how big it was for three weeks.

People here were talking about it for months.

Its a shitty CGI fest about saving trees and causing the untold deaths of countless humans because some giant smurfs refused to awknowledge that houses are functional and more practical than a tree which breaks the laws of physics and should probably break at any moment.

The operative word being "were"
Nobody brings it up anymore because it hasn't stood the rest of time and it only really remembered as that meh movie that literally everyone saw.

Can it not be debated the thread title is based on context?

Most movies which are known to be 'great classics', usually ARE good movies, hence they have stood the test of time.

Jurassic park is a damned good movie, as is Jaws, Titanic, etc.

While I hate the argumentum ad populum thingy, Titanic had massive influence, and is referenced in many other fictions and shows.
That ain't make it good. Friday the 13th gets referenced a lot and all of then are horrible and boring. (Apart from jason x and Freddy vs jason which are fun)

The 1st/2nd friday the 13th are pretty good.

You can't say influential media are over rated.
