Mount & Blade General

Because you don't know about Swadian knights

Have anyone played Viking conquest?
Personally, it's not a bad game.
quests are.. so so combats are not bad.
but it's not "Mount and Blade"
it's just about blades and ship battles are just sucks.

Fire and Sword looks fine.
actually, for combat, it has some better point than Warband.
but for me, there is a problem: it's too hard to fight with bandits.
they are too fast.

It wouldn't surprise me if the game is unbalanced, the AI usually just gives-and-takes forts forever, one lost, one gained, but every now and rare then, there's an all out conquest, like the sarranids suddenly owning half of swadia in my last save, they didn't conquer it, lords were defecting en masse, taking territories with them.

I like fire and sword. Very different atmosphere and mood though. Once you're a vassal of a lord, and you got a bit of an entourage, bandits stop mattering altogether, but yes, they're a bit too annoying early on, like fucking wasps
Just go berserk w your pistol and sabre, and kill them all by yourself!

I'm curious of the viking one, but it did seem a bit limited

I liked WFAS a lot. I'm actually really disappointed that it didn't become more popular, there really needs to be a more comprehensive mod pack for it like Floris for Warband, and somebody also needs to open up more of the rest of Europe on the map for us to play with. I always hated how the map just stopped when you were near Germany. Seemed so stupid to me. I wanna conquer Europe as Poland, damn it.

Speaking of mods, one thing I'm watching with feverish anticipation is the Rome At War mod for Warband. It's set in 300BC, basically about 30 years before Rome 2's start. I seriously can't wait for this damn thing to be finished, everything they've released so far is excellent.

Everyone either plays Napoleonic Wars or some dumb obscure mod so, meh.

The only mod I really play that much for Warband is Floris, which isn't really what I'd call obscure.

Napoleonic Wars is fun as hell, though. I want to get into the line battles but I need a regiment and I don't really wanna join one that's full of strangers. Commander battles are great, though. I want to do commander battles but 1v1 in control of an entire army, sorta like Total War multiplayer. And let's be honest, Mount & Blade is just a Total War game in denial.

There's so much room for improvement though, as detailed as it is, there are some really annoying things, like how rigid people are, they're like blocks of concrete - unpushable, un-nudgable, resulting in that idiotic clog up the stairs during a wall attack

Also, I would really like to see the exact same engine set yet further back in time. That's why I wanna try the viking one, less horses, more ocean, it could be cool, monotonous maybe, but so is regular M&B too - but I wanna see even further back, some ancient stuff, broad bronze-swords, and stick to the formula of realistic look and function to the armor and weaponry.
Obviously, this would be just dreaming, and most games of this kind, including shooters, tend to wanna move forward in time, in their chronology

With Fire and Sword isn't very popular because it is a poor rip-off of a mod which used to have the same title. If you like WFaS and play mainly multiplayer, you should check The Deluge for Warband. Splendid mod with many great additions you won't see anywhere else, at least not to such degree.

Yeah I just don't even bother walking up the ladder first in sieges, because my team-mates can seemingly push me around but I can't push them, leading to me dying and losing 99999999999999 renown due to a fall. Really the siege gameplay needs to be revamped massively.

There are also a few ancient mods, but most of them deal with Rome and the Hellenistic period in general, which I guess is what most people are referring to anyway when they say "ancient". I remember there being one about the Graeco-Persian wars, there's also another set between Alexander The Great's death and the Punic Wars which I mentioned above, but it's not quite close to complete yet.

Edit: Woah didn't see ya there!

Multiplayer is pretty cool, but I think the singleplayer aspect of the game has always been equally important. I actually hope The Deluge finally releases campaign gameplay, because I like the time period more than the Napoleonic wars, and the only real "gunpowder" alternative we have for campaign mode is L'Aigle, which is set during the Napoleonic wars.

Edit: Also when the hell is somebody going to make a decent gunpowder mod set in Calradia?

The best mod for Warband is Silverstag. Once you play it you'll have trouble going back to any other mod, or even vanilla.

The best mod I've played for original M-n-B is The Last Days. There's a Warband port now too.

I really enjoyed Silverstag from what I've played of it. The treeless troop system is an interesting change, but I'm still not sure how I feel about it. It's a fairly significant change, one that I feel alters the character progression more significantly than anything else they've changed. Until the mod's more "done", I'm going to continue with Floris.

nice landscapes! The world was so flat in Warband (even with the alpine "border"-mountains) and yet flatter in Fire & Sword, I really liked seeing what looked like slopes and valleys in that clip

I'm not impressed so far. Yes, the graphics are better, yes, they've finally made sieges playable and the character creation is better, but it seems likey the almost haven't touched combat animations at all. Still those clunky animations from Warband. I hope they improve them before release. Doesn't look like much after 5 years of work.

I think the animations look fine. They look naturalistic, like actual people swinging heavy weapons, while clad in heavy gear. I thought they looked fine in Warband as well, to be honest. A bit stiff and limited, but in all not bad.

Personally, I'm disappointed for some points
1. Over worldmap
eh.. didn't changed at all!

2.Consoletic UI
I really hate UI design of M&B 2..

but overall, I'm just glad to know they still working on it.

People swinging weapons look nothing like that. Most animations telegraph your attack as if you wanted to give your enemy a chance to dodge. In real life swings are much faster and much... "stealthier" if that makes sense.

Things I'd like to see would be localized damage, more robust politics, more diverse terrain types, looting which involves killing peasants even if you have a lot of troops, looting cities, cities that change appearance dependent on their prosperity, settlements growing and falling, more diverse cultures and less overpowered horses.

And troop equipment which doesn't depend on your soldier's level, but the actual equipment you give them.

Things I'm afraid of would be more console-oriented gameplay, a plot, and politically correct bullshit which would make women in the world of M&B get treated as equals.

We can not allow the manliest game of all time to be ruined by political correctness.

I still don't understand why games still keep the weapons on the back of the characters.

Two-handed blades are often depicted on characters back, because they are quite long. Were they hung from the waist, they would poke against the ground, especially if you are in uneven terrain.

I doubt it's all that applicable historically, since most swords were not that long, but that's at least the reason. In both M&B and Oblivion/Skyrim shorter (normal) blades are hung from the belt around the waist, not on the back
