My Views on The Role of the NCR in New Vegas

Also, I don't think we can really know any story-related reasons to support the legion until the game actually comes out. All we have is rampant speculation and guess work.

Also, nobody knows who started the actual nuclear war between the US and China.

I thought China started the war by invading Alaska and the US responded with nukes?

Or yeah, aliens. Hurr.

you think he will say he start the war?

true, i rite rong my sentence but the important thing is that both launch the nukes

@Zkylon: China invades alaska, we annex canada, we take back alaska, move into China. The furthest into the war I remember reading/hearing about was how the swamps and shit in China were slowing down our guys in T-51b's. Nobody knows who launched first, and I would trust President Richardson as far as I could throw him.

I don't suppose its a matter of trust, remember, he could be going off information/propaganda that his predecessors told him. The Enclave may have been the remnant of the US government, but not the good remnant.

As for the Chinese launching first, why not?
-They did loose their hold on Alaska
-The US brought the war with power armor to their door step.

And I suppose with the thought on NCR, well all governments change and with different leadership you get different mentalities and policies. Tandi can't rule forever, and even if she did, I am sure even good people slip up.

And remember if Vice President Carlson took control NCR things would be a lot tighter.

Aliens makes sense. As stupid as people can be, the concept of MAD is pretty well understood, especially among anyone leading a country. Several things would have to go catastrophically wrong for nuclear war to occur.

What good remnant? As far as we know, the US government before the war was pretty much the same as the Enclave. Remember FO1's intro :)

Aliens would be really dumb, considering that Fallout is about people (and mutated people), not aiiens. Aliens starting the global nuclear war is really dumb for the setting.

Chinese nuking us t get the power armored guys off of their doorstep? Maybe.
The Enclave nuking everyone to give the Vault project it's kickstart? Easily.

Well fallouts is based on 50's retro design and pop culture, and UFOs and such were popular during that era, so they would kinda fit in, but not majorly and them using nukes is dumb.

Maybe the enclave used a china's situation as an excuse to launch the nukes and blame them for it. China was having the shit kicked out of them, even with the T-51bs slowed down, so people would naturally assume that in a last ditch effort, the reds fired a few hundred missiles at america.

What probably happened was that when the new T-51b units arrived in China and replaced the bogged down T-45d units and began pushing inwards. They carved a swath through the Chinese forces and began to near Biejing, the Chinese launched out of pure desperation. There's no reason NOT to trust Richardson as everything else he tells you is factual.

@Overtake; The idea for the vaults (to the public) were that they were shelters from the oncoming nuclear storm. Enclave thinks we're winning the war too easily, China won't nuke, so they drop their own bombs on China, China retaliates with ICBMs, bombers, nuke subs, etc, we claim China bombed first, we retaliate, boom, nuclear apoc.

@WhiteKnight: Yeah, but ultimately, it's about man. And how war never changes. We brought about our destruction, aliens just popping in dropping bombs on us would be, as you said, dumb.

@Faceless Stranger: He's supposed to be Richard "Tricky Dick" Nixon. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. Hell, he may not even know the real truth. He's the President, but the Enclave represents a secret, shadowy government with a lot of control. I wouldn't be surprised if it's some Super Top-Secret Eyes Only If You Think About It Too Much We Will Fucking Kill You level of classified. Hell, maybe nobody knows. Nobody has to keep the secret if they don't know it exists in the first place. Enclave history books would say that the chinese bombed us out of desperation, we bombed them back or our bombers followed an automatic protocol and bombed them, world went apoc.
