Hello all,

I am kind of surprised that no one has mentioned it here on the forum as this is somewhat news worthy (though someone passing away is nothing new).

Apparently Neil Armstrong has passed away on August 25th after complications of heart surgery earlier that month, he was 82 years old.

I don't know much to say what others haven't said before other that he could be considered one of the world's real life legends.
Not just what he did himself but also what he stood for when people work together in order to accomplish something; in this case sending a manned mission to the moon and getting them back safely.

While I know its dangerous I think its more important than ever to follow up on the moon landing and continue with manned exploration of space deeper into the solar system, otherwise we might see all those brave pioneers disappear without anyone else following their example.

In the words of Brother None, I didn't know he was still alive.

But now that I checked, there are quite a few moonwalkers still roaming this Earth.

And I suppose China will get their astronauts to the Moon pretty soon, unless they decide to skip it altogether and head for Mars.

That man had an excellent life. He was the first man to set foot on the Moon, inspired tons of people to get into the space program, and lived to the age of 82. What more could one ask for? My college, Purdue University, has a pretty big building named after him, as he was an alumnus of the college. It's been getting a lot of visitors recently, as he was pretty much the school's number one legend.

moon, screw them moon. Send people finally to Mars.

I was always impressed with how Armstrong was always a quiet humble person and self-effacing when it came to his celebrity.

Meanwhile no onne cares about poor Michael Collins, he got to the moon with Aldrin and Armstrong but never set foot on it.

I do. He's the guy with the average, forgettable name, and the bleak smile in the middle of the photo.

I'd spike Neil or Buzz's food tube with laxatives, if I was in his shoes, that's what I'd do ;)

What I find extremely depressing is if we don't get serious again about going back to the Moon and onto Mars the generation of people alive to see the last Moon landings will soon retire and die off. Then what happens? The rest of society becomes doubtful or cares less about things they weren't around to appreciate.

This makes me as amazing as his accomplishments. I was sad to hear he died.

Man, you gotta feel for the guy, they even shitted him with the helmet. The other two got the cool mirrored ones and he got a fucking modified fish bowl. Hence, the look on his face is "FUCK YOU NASA. FUCK. YOU."

maximaz...stop using stuff, dude.

Only recently did I become aware how many people in my surrounding are ignorant and unaware of Apollo 11's accomplishment, and its historic importance.
Collins? Folks don't know who Armstrong is.

Still, he had a long and full life. Nothing to be so sad about there. Most of us can only envy him.

Hey, if it's good enough for Zak McKracken, it's good for Michael Collins.

yes, the lunar landing was historically important.

how else would humanity know to kill the Silence.

... And holy shit. How does Buzz Alrdin have more hair now than he used to in his youth? What space age Rogain are they hiding from us? His hairline there looks like he should have been bald in five years. Maybe the secret is moon dust or space radiation.

Fuck Lance Armstrong, the sniveling cheater...by the way, a few of the second and third place winners of the Tour de France, during his reign at the top, also failed drug tests (yeah I know he never failed a test, but...), so they're all cheating bastards. :monocle:
