New Fallout 2 animations (sniper, wakizashi, etc)

Should the player use one or two hands when thrusting with the sword?

ONE-handed.

You can create way more momentum with one hand than using both. Also, it looks better.

And to all the fools who say swords are two-handed weapons: read The Book of Five Rings. It's written by a Jap and even HE acknowledges that using two hands is ridiculous.

Depends on the sword ;) There are many differnt swords, tho most are one handed.

One handed. Two handed just looks like a nonsense. Far too slow for a real fight - always thought this kind of weapons is purely about the speeeeeed.

Hmmm. Looks like I've missed quite a lot.

Love the wakisashi animations, and the headband.

Not sure which animation I like more though, but I'm leaning more towards two-handed.

Yes most swords when swinging, slashing and quick jabbing are done one-handed. But I think when dealing with a thrust to the torso, if we assume we're trying to penetrate the enemy greatly then I believe you would need greater leverage and support that could only come form a two-handed grip.

Thrust looks better two handed and makes more sense (since you need more power). However, swinging a wakizashi with both hands feels and looks wrong. (Remove the anime flash, does not belong in FO.)
Red headband is cool.

What the jester said.

Also, yes, there are two-handed swords, but that is not the True Way of the Warrior, young padawan.

The wakizashi is a side-arm, like a dagger. Even though you COULD use it two-handed, that doesn't make any sense. Much less if you're going for a stab, which requires momentum, not force.

If you want to stab someone, you want to build up momentum. Ever tried to hammer a nail by PUSHING the hammer onto the nail?

'sides, the two-handed animation looks just wrong, whereas the one-handed animation looks like it really hurts.

Why don't you just make a poll for One handed or two handed and the winner becomes the base look. Then have an option folder addon for those who would like the other choice. This way its a win win for every one.... well except for the creator who has to do all the hard work... :wink:

Thanks for the opinions. Looks like more people are going for two-handed. Is there a way we can put a poll on this thread to get a decision?

Well, if thrusting a wakizashi using two hands is unlikely to do, then making a swing like it weights 100 kg is better? Both don't fit equally, but in my opinion, wakizashi is not a stabbing-made blade. It's far more dangerous when swinging, so - the swing animation.

@Josan12
Do whichever is easiest, while everyone loves to give an opinion, I just appreciate the variety you are creating.

One-handed...Two-Handed...meh. New variety in an old favorite...fabulous!

I think this is a good point. The two-handed animation is the sledgehammer thrust, and is actually more of a push than a stab if you look closely. (i always thought it was a strange way to attack with a sledge!) I could modify it of course by taking out 1 or 2 of the pull back frames .... i'll give that a try.

In terms of which is easier - one-handed is marginally easier as with the sledgehammer animations the character has his hands spaced wide apart, so they need to be edited to come together. The 'club' one-handed is good as is ....

Done. :D

Also, this thread should be split since it was originally about the sniper animations. Or maybe we should just rename this thread to "New Fallout animations"?

Thinking about this some more... Realistically, the wakizashi is a one-handed weapon; the hilt isn't long enough for two hands. I'm used to longer swords, which are difficult to thrust with one-handed. After a bit of testing, I found that something of this length really can't be used two-handed. The same goes for swinging – it would be better to base it on the club animation than the sledgehammer.

That's true. I'll start a new thread for the Wakizashi animations.

@Kanhef: good point, and probably true, technically speaking. But i'm afraid the two-handed swing animations are done in all armours :wink:

No need. Let's just rename this thread to "New Fallout 2 animations"

the one handed is better mostly due to the fact he has a red bandana on. besides all this,, cant we just have both models? and btw is there not a one handed trait where you're more comfortable with one handed weapons? would not that trait need the one handed sprite anyway?

Well I don't know if its possible to make a weapon using 3 attack animation but if yes that would be quite cool.

Err.. never seen this poll topic though it's very old..

Anyway..

Katana = 1 handed
Daikatan = 2 handed

*edit*

oww, it's been merged.. and title changed.. and poll-ed.. and :?
