This is a horrible comparison to make when you take more than 3 seconds to think about how Fallout isn't directly about one sole character, but rather about themes such as the consequences of nuclear war, abuse of technology and playing God, ethics and morality in a post-apocalyptic world, and the predictability of human nature to wage war no matter the circumstance just to name a few.
Superman is a superhero. His comics follow his adventures alone and revolves around him saving the day from evil and corruption, and generally being the beacon of hope for the people. Fallout is not comparable, and comparing any of the main characters to Superman is quite ridiculous. The main characters of Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas are vessels you make to introduce you to a different set of conflicts, settings, and narratives. As a matter of fact, aside from their titles of the Vault Dweller, Chosen One, and Courier, the character is quite literally a blank slate, because the world's existence doesn't revolve around your character, although through exploration and engagement with the world, your character you can shape it.

Again, this is something the fans can bitch and moan about all they want, but no one in Hollywood or the general audience will care. I agree that Fallout 3 lazily recycled everything from the first two games and inserted them in a way that's forced and uninspired for a new entry in the series. But staying on the topic of strictly adapting Fallout 3 into a film format, it's still very much possible and if need be can be tweaked because that's what an adaption allows. Especially for a series as flexible as Fallout.

Pretty apt comparison because the story of Fallout 3 is about the Lone Wanderer and James, you can't just rip them out and expect to have the same general story.

You have proven the opposite when you suggest ripping out main characters that are crucial to the plot of Fallout 3.

You're being purposefully dense at this point, I've explained exactly why 1) You absolutely could adapt something without the main character yet retain the overall plot and 2) How doing so works perfectly with a series like Fallout.

Yet you continue to misconstrue my points.

    Yes.

There is no spite for Bethesda; there is simply no soul in any other Fallout title.

    They shouldn't want to try.

The Fallout setting (as a whole) is a one-shot. The rest (save one) are each confused attempts at repeating the game that preceded them. New Vegas was hamstrung by Bethesda; they denied Obsidian various topics and locations. Everything after Fallout [1] is Nuka~Break /pseudo-fan-fiction. sadvaultboy.gif

Maybe the word spite is wrong, but there definitely is bitterness and resentfulness feelings towards Bethesda on here, and justified too if you ask me, at least when it comes to their approach to the series and now claims of the series being theirs or rooted in their DNA. Agreed though about the soullessness of the series now though.

    Agreed.

    Eh, semi-agreed.

    Also agreed.

    I disagree.

I'd almost say that everything past the originals is hamstrung, whether intentionally or not. Bethesda wanted to insert recognizable iconography in a half hearted attempt to draw in older fans. When they should have just added in their own creatures, factions and just generally original world building. At least then it may have given 3 and beyond something to differentiate in a somewhat positive light.

Oh they exploited the older fans for word of mouth—and bait & switch. The months leading up to the game's release felt like camping out at the gate to a big event, only to then have bus loads of VIPs arrive in the last hour, escorted in ahead of the line. With no shame whatsoever by Bethesda or their Elderscrolls fanbase; come to play this new Oblivion called Fallout.

One thing notable that occurred to me from the trailer: No Super Mutants.

Surely there will be some in the show, but that is actually a somewhat remarkable level of restraint. Brotherhood of Steel, power armor, ghouls, nuka cola... but no super mutants

No restraint if there are still tendency to nullifying post war development and excessive potrayal of scavenging.

I wonder if it's because they look like CGI shit and they're afraid to show it off.

Heh heh, I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case. Knowing other blunders regarding crappy CGI, I wouldn't put it past them to be hiding it at the moment.

I'd actually find it funny if the series didn't have Super Mutants, as the later games sure were content to to shove them everywhere else. Even more humorous this being on the West Coast, the one place you'd actually expect to find Super Mutants.

They’ll be there in the show, no doubt in my mind. They’ll probably also be orcs like they are in the East coast rather than intelligent, because that’s what they’re known for now. We’ll also definitely see the return of 200 year old frail ghouls that can charge and throw themselves onto the the protagonist for the scare factor.

Haven't watched it myself, but TLOU was somewhat true to the source material. But appealing to the fans is not something Hollywood wants to do. Just look how Cavill was treated by the cast and staff members for trying to make the witcher series coherent with the books and video games.
