New Movies

Peter jacson, by the way, is a wartridden penis. And i think he hates the lord of the rings. The movies did not capture the feel in the book, was packed with special effects, and was also all too action based. Stupid and comersialised. This comes from a person who has read the book 18 times and seen each movie at least 3 times for each movie. Me.

Good for you. If you went into the film thinking the movie was going to be just as good as the books, you're a fool.

It's been brought up in this thread before. The books, if filmed just as they're written, would make for a terribly boring movie (personally I think they make for terribly boring literature, as well).

Hehe. Imagine Hegel's works transfered to the cinema.

That said, Troy sucked.

No.

Well the Lord of the Rings books *are* pretty bad, y'know. Not to mention unstranslatable to the screen.

But hey, if you're gonne do that, at least respect the books, aight, which is what I was thinking was Loxley's point.

I agree. But I was speaking from the perspective of someone who loved the books.

I found them boring.

Akira: it's like Mad Max meets Blade Runner meets some totally shitty movie I don't care about. It's romantisizing Japanese Communism is hysterical, it's plot just as remarkably funny, and both the dubbing and the Japanese sounding like Blade Runner as written by the guy who did Bill & Ted's Bogus adventure, which was acutally the better movie.

Is there any really good Anime? I really want to understand what's so important to my generation.

I guess it's not new sense it came out the year I was born.

Princess Monoke and Spirited Away

that is so gay.

But Kharn is right, those are some of the better animes. However, I am not sure if they are respresentative of your generation. More accurately what critics think is important of your generation.

The trick to finding out what a particular generation finds important is merely to figure out what is popular in a generation. It might not be "art" or even "that good" but it does reflect a generation's choice of what it likes or doesn't. Baywatch was important to one generation, The OC another.

Anime, important to your generation? I really don't think so. Sure, there are anime conventions, but there are furry conventions; just means there are some dedicated fans.

Anyway, complaining in and out of the Order CCR? Well, same recommendations, since people always mention Spirited Away and Princess Monoke. So, go see R.O.D. Read or Die and Metropolis.

But, if you are going to hate anime, nothing really is going to stop that.
