New Skyrim's E3 demo looking quite...

well Oblivion was already an adventure game so if they want to follow that tradition. Skyrim will be one as well.

I don't really mind them taking out skills as long as they make up for it with more character specialization, as there are a lot of throw away skills in Elderscrolls games. The new Perk system seems to be a good way to balance the smaller number of skills. Since you can bring up any skill at any time, hearing you can only pick a perk per level up to level 50, definitely means you'll have to put some specialty in your character to be powerful. Assuming of course if beth can add any sort of balance to the game.

No, the thing that bothers me more, is character customization. For a game that claims to all about the player and the freedom to design a character that they want, they sure do slowly take more and more of those customization options away. Take armor for example, we all know how many choices Morrowind had, and then to have more than half of that stripped in Oblivion was a bit of a disappointment. If you watch this video closely, you'll notice armor is actually called Iron ARMOR instead of Iron Cuirass. I guess having split pieces of armor to customize your look is just too complicated for mainstream gaming. I always loved decking myself out in Leather with a single iron Pauldron or mix and match armor types for a particular intimidating character. Seeing even more of this taken out is very disappointing. Since this is all speculation from that video, I really hope that I'm wrong.

It also was really nice in Morrowind to run around searching everywhere parts for your daedric armor because there might have been only 2 characters in the whole game which had a full set (leave alone for a few daedra enemies but you can not loot any armor from them). One reason people thought was really bad in Oblivion. Want daedric armor ? Hit level 25 or something. Voila. Every bandit has it suddenly. I am really curious who got the idea do it like that for Oblivion. Not that "level scaling" is bad at all. If used correctly. But I mean ... it is not something which you should throw around in such a way. It is like candy. Eat to much of it. And you got a problem. It has to be used carefully.

Though I do not have high hopes for Skyrim beeing to different from Oblivion. Particularly as Bethesda still has to prove that they can give us charcters worth to talk with. And if Fallout 3 was the best they could do ...meh.

Well they said they didn't care about that stuff in Fallout 3, which is fucking obvious.

maybe they will care about it here.

nah who am I kidding its all about that moss on the log and dragons

Well I find it looking to be much better than what I've seen previously. Especially the fact that you don't get sucked into a conversation and then get stuck doing nothing but choosing responses out of a menu. The fact that you're just allowed to move around while talking helps.

Looks good but I'm not very excited about the combat here. The whole dual wielding seems cool when it comes to magic but the actual melee fighting is straight out of Oblivion, save for finishing moves that always end up being annoying, unless there are dozens of them and they are optional. I was hoping it would be more complex in some way. At least, if slashing someone's flesh left cuts and damaged limbs or something, it would be somewhat more engaging.

There is supposed to be some sort of bleeding perk...we will see .

I was just reading a forum where several people were "Hoping for an online co-op mode" and at least one person said he "Hoped they added V.A.T.S".

This dude pretty much confirmed what I suspected:

First off, lets just get this out of the way. Skyrim is Oblivion 2.5. While there are slightly better graphics and a really fancy new map (which was admittedly cool, but the only thing in the entire demo that piqued my interest), the combat and game play is still absolutely Oblivion.

Frankly, Skyrim is Oblivion with dual wielding… And dragons. That’s about it. This was something I was afraid of. The same herpy derpy combat from Oblivion makes its hideous return and while some vistas look pretty sweet, there were a lot of otherthings that looked really plain. The scuttlebut at the convention about Skyrim was that the settings for the demo were turned way down, because the engine simply cannot handle the game and that some Id folks have been called in to help fix Skyrim to get it ready for launch in November. Whether or not this is true is neither here nor there, but this game did not impress me in the least.

Yes, you can wield a sword in one hand and magic in the other… That is the new feature that they touted in the game… FOR 35 MINUTES. To make matters worse, when the Dragons finally showed up at the end of the demo, the fight was such a bore, with the minor exception of a dragon crashing into the round after taking some damage, that I couldn’t muster enough energy to care.

Wow, only slightly better graphics! This game may be shit in the end,but the graphics are definitely a major improvement

it is also funny how people which have not seen the demo tear the guy apart in comments.

We can all see those "trailers" from Skyrim. And besides the Graphics I do NOT see many differences to Oblivion. And why should it be ?

Lets be honest here. Todd is responsible for it. Oblivion was in their eyes a HUGE success. Why should it be any different ?

I do not expect here in skyrim any game play that would be that much different from Oblivion.

Don't forget Crni Vuk, in the eyes of many of these people Oblivion was a good game so more of the same sounds only better to them.
For now.

Of course it's Oblivion with dragons, I don't think anybody frankly expected this game to be something else after the huge success of Beth's two previous offerings. I await absolutely nothing from the NPCs and quest design, they were never Bethesda's forte (save some parts of Morrowind, and even then), but if they can make the world look and feel better with a character system that doesn't completely suck it would already be a huge improvement.

Give it time for the price to drop, then add some well-made quest and/or balance mods et voilà, an enjoyable game (I know Oblivion was fun two times; when I first explored the world, and then when I intalled Nerhim).

I heard the Dark Brotherhood won't be in Skyrim which is a shame, that was the best series of quests in Oblivion IMHO.

Yea, it was by far. The Clue inspired quest in the mansion was a ton of fun, sneaking into the prison to assassinate an inmate.

so it seems they remove the part most people loved about Oblivion or called at least "quality writing" (not that I was impressed, just saying).

But yeah ... I am sure people will buy skyrim like hotcakes. I think I should simply dissapear for some time though. Hype is already huge now. Cant wait to hear those "OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG SKYRIM IS THE MOST PERFECT AND BESTEST RPG EVER! IT EVEN BEATS THE PERFECT OBLIVION WHICH IS NOW NOT SO PERFECT ANYMORE!111".

Then we get Fallout 4 and see some criticism about Skyrim.

I've even heard some people saying "They should just go ahead and make this game of the year now." :?
