And do we really need more aliens?
Because that is what it would turn out to be.
I'm hoping that Wanamingos/aliens do not make an appearance in New Vegas. They are seriously my most hated critter, and not because they are tough.

Really? I did not mind them much. I was sort of glad to see them back (along with the geckos) in Mart's Mutant Mod.

I've been reading through the Fallout Bible recently (as I occasionally do) so it's still fresh in my mind. Avellone said (...) that the Wanamingos are long lived but sterile
Yes, I remember having read that bit too, but... don't you think that the Wanamingo Mine's nest full of eggs seems to say otherwise? :?

The eggs could be sterile ...

Who cares if Bethesda decided that Aliens had a hand in it?

If aliens did it, it would take away Fallout's commentary on humans and society.

Or to put it more bluntly: If aliens built the pyramids, started the world wars and were behind all of humanitys triumphs and failures, these triumphs and failures are of no consequence. We did not do it, we cannot learn from them, we have no responsibility.

One, central part of the social commentary from the Fallout series is that empires wage war over access to resources. In modern times, however, such a war could lead to full scale nuclear war. Saying that aliens did it, implies that there is nothing wrong with those stockpiles of nuclear warheads, as humanity would never use them on their own. We should just duck and cover.

actualy what I always found so intersting about the setting is that the game did not even made it such a big focus who started it, humans, computers. Maybe even just some stupid error.

After the ½ hour war, the question of who started it stops to be interesting. China and the US pressed each other into a situation where either could have started it. Both are to blame. But after that ½ hour, the really interesting question is how to survive? Or if it is better to bite a bullet?

Fallout 3 is more like a fan-fiction.
The player is a "can do everything Mary Sue", there are vampires, incredibly bad writing... You're right :D
But the vampires were not gothy enough.
